Background

In his past, Vaseraga was the captain of a successful crew of skyfarers. Excited at the prospect becoming a leading crew, Vaseraga accepted a job to eliminate a primal beast from an island. This decision turned out to be his life's biggest regret. The primal beast was revealed to be Lich whose poisonous mist rendered Vaseraga immobile. One by one, each crew member slowly dragged Vaseraga's body out of the Lich's lair. When one crew member perished due to poison, another took their place. They believed that as long as Vaseraga lived, the crew would live on and their dreams would stay alive.

The traumatic loss of his entire crew left once confident and ambitious captain with immense survivor's guilt. Desperate to escape his past, he joins the Society and later becomes the contractor of the Great Scythe Grynoth.

The Society assigns Vaseraga with Zeta to investigate the primal beast of Lognos Island. Their personalities clash at first, but they eventually learn to deeply trust each other over time.

He is notably fond of the Main Character and the Grandcypher crew since they remind him of happier times with his former crew. Due to his traumatic past, Vaseraga is extremely protective of his comrades particularly those that lack the combat ability to protect themselves, such as Lyria and Vyrn. If an ally dies or is in imminent danger, he goes into an near-uncontrollable berserker rage.

1

Oh, it's your birthday today, right? Happy birthday, Captain.
I prepared this for you, seeing as it's your special day and all.
Don't worry! It's not wine. It may look like it, but even a child could drink this

2

Happy birthday to you, (Captain).
The crew is growing as fast as you are. But I'll admit, I take joy in watching over you.
Heh... Never thought I'd say that, huh?

3

Today's your birthday, eh? Happy birthday, (Captain).
...
You've truly grown... As would be expected, having spent three years with you.
I pray that when this day comes next year, it finds you well. The time I spend considering how I can support you more is precious to me.
I think I've said too much... Why don't we head down to the feast? Everyone's waiting for you.

4

(Captain), happy birthday. Much preparation went into today's dinner party. I did what I could with the decorations. I imagine it to be a great feeling to have everyone pin their hopes and expectations on you. But the pressure to perform is surely equally great. Whenever it becomes too much, you can count on me... Or rather, any one of us in the crew. We're always watching you. I hope you never forget that. Off to the party then. Everyone awaits your presence.

5

Happy birthday, (Captain). This makes the fifth time we've celebrated your birthday together.
You've added many allies to your crew in that time.
It's true that each new crew member adds to your responsibilities as captain.
But I think you've performed your role admirably, and never let them down.
I'm glad I've had the chance to watch you grow, and to celebrate these important occasions with you.
I'll be here to celebrate it next year and the year after. I'm looking forward to the birthday when we can actually lift a glass together.

Hm? You're here to give me chocolates? Ah, for Valentine's Day...
That's mighty kind of you to give gifts to all the crew members.
You've really gone all out for Valentine's Day, (Captain).
I've seen you running all over the airship since this morning. Take it easy and I'll be on watch for today.

2

Is that chocolate... for me?
I see...
Thank you, (Captain). I'll be sure to savor each bite.
Did you get up early to prepare for Valentine's Day?
If so, then take the day off to rest. I'll take care of your duties in your stead.
Leave it to me! You know I used to be in a crew before this one. And handling business with the Knickknack Shack is my forte.

3

Another gift for me this year? Thank you, (Captain).
Your gift brings cheer to a man who went through a tough scrape...
You might not be aware of it yourself, but beyond your strength to fight is the strength to help your crew stand tall.
I suppose that's not saying too much this time...

4

Chocolate for me this year too? Thank you, (Captain).
How fortunate I must be for this to feel so natural.
For our give-and-take relationship to continue...
And the fact that you're all still by my side. I couldn't ask for more.
I should be grateful for what you do for me, (Captain).
I will try to be more upfront with myself, so that I can express my gratitude properly.

5

That's quite the stack of boxes you're carrying,(Captain). Can you even see where you're going?
Handing out chocolate to show the crew you appreciate them, eh? You really are a considerate captain.
What? They're all for me?
Wait... These are all different kinds of sweets. Did you make all of them?
...
You did all this because you don't know what I like?
Pff... Just when I think I have you figured out,(Captain).
Thank you. I'll savor each bite.

White Day Cutscenes

1

I'll go ahead and give this to you... since it's White Day and all. I apologize that it's not handmade...
I went into town to find something suitable to give you, (Captain), but it took a while to decide. Giving gifts is arduous...

2

(Captain), do you have a minute?
Yep. It's your White Day gift.
I tried to think of a handmade gift, the way you did, (Captain). But I'm afraid I'm no good at those kinds of things.
So instead I went and bought something that's sure to please.
The item is pretty popular, and there was quite a line. So I ended up coming back pretty late. My apologies...

3

There you are, (Captain). I want to give you this. Go on and take it.
Hm... You're staring at me pretty hard... What's wrong? I'm definitely the one who bought it...
The wrapping is so cute that you want to know which store it came from? I see... You're concerned about me and the shopping trip.
The store was just as you'd imagine. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. It was hard for me to step foot inside...
The store clerks froze when they saw me too. But the place is so popular for gifts, I didn't know where else to go.
Humph... I only did it for you, (Captain). Now go ahead and take it.

4

(Captain)... So today's White Day, huh.
I had to buy these ready-made, but I did prepare them just for you. Will you accept?
Hm? You saw me making something in the kitchen?
So you were watching... It's true, I did try my hand at this confectionary thing, but it didn't turn out too well.
Hm? You wish to taste the ones I made myself? I can't guarantee the taste though.
Well, if it'll satiate your curiosity...
I left them in my room. Come with me.

5

Here, (Captain). This is for you.
It's handmade. Last year you told me you preferred that, remember?
So I asked Vyrn and Lyria what you liked.
I think I chose the right recipe... but I can't vouch for the taste.
There's a card too. I wanted to share my opinions of all the sweets you made me last month, and say thank you.
Which did I like best? The chocolate chip cookies, I think. They struck the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.
I wanted to return your consideration in kind, but... Well, I hope you like it, at any rate.

1

My old crew used to celebrate the holidays too.
This? It's the wine we'll be having at the holiday feast.
It's Erune-made so it's very good stuff. Will you be having any, (Captain)? Ah, you're not of age yet...

2

With all these crew members, the holiday feast feels much more lively.
At times like this, don't you sense how far we've come as a crew? I know I do.
Now let's get a seat, (Captain). You don't want to miss out on a feast as grand as this!

3

The holidays are here... It's that time of year again...
We're all exchanging gifts this year again, aren't we? I've already got my gift ready.
It's rare to see me at a holiday party, you say? I suppose I like to show my face every now and then...
For every person that finds a place in your heart, they become just one more push to give you strength to survive. That's all there is to it.

4

What's wrong, (Captain)? Not enjoying the feast?
Hm? You followed me out here?
Sorry if I made you worry. Had to clear my mind.
When I served as captain of my own crew, I loved partying with the rest of 'em.
Just as you do now, (Captain).
Recalling the good old days gets me a bit sentimental.
Perhaps I've said too much.
Hm? Where are you dragging me?
What? You want me to bust a few moves with you at the party?
I suppose I could do that.
Being an antisocial bore on this day in particular would be a waste indeed.
Let us return to the party and bust a groove or two, (Captain).

5

The town certainly is boisterous tonight. Crowds everywhere you look. Seems like a lot of preparation goes into that holiday feast.
Don't worry, though. I'll carry your bags. That's why you brought me along, right?
What? You want my help choosing decorations for the tree?
That's more a job for Zeta, don't you think? I don't know what the tree will look like with me helping.
But this is a special night... I'll be glad to accompany you if that's what you really want.
I don't have any experience with decoration, but I can probably make myself useful when it comes to negotiating prices.

A Gift to a Warrior

The crew lands in Auguste for a refresher. Vaseraga, on the other hand, shows little interest in beach resorts, preferring to go monster hunting instead. (Captain) and the others gift him a swimsuit and insist he joins. Eventually, Vaseraga relents and decides to spend time with the crew.

Summer.
The Grandcypher has taken a detour to Auguste for a breather.
Inside the airship stands a single man, hesitant to take a step forward.
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga remains silent, his helmet covering his facial expression. Tension surrounds him.
Only few people aboard the ship are brave enough to break the ice.
Ilsa: Are you lost, Armored Chicken? The exit's right in front of you.
Vyrn: Hmm? Is something bothering you?
Vaseraga: Oh, it's you all. No, everything's fine. I'm not lost or anything.
Ilsa: Hmpf. From the looks of it, you have no idea how to spend this concept known as a vacation.
Ilsa: But you're in luck—we'll be guiding you step by step, so there's no need to worry.
Vaseraga: I appreciate your generosity, Commander, but I was just about to go on a monster hunt.
Lyria: Whaaat? A monster hunt?
Ilsa: That's certainly the last thing I would do at a tourist destination.
Vaseraga: I can't think of anything else to do here.
Vaseraga: Don't mind me. Go with (Captain) and enjoy yourselves to the fullest.
Vyrn: What are you talkin' about, Spiky! We're in Auguste, y'know? Auguste!
Lyria: That's right! Come join us, Vaseraga!
Ilsa: You heard them.
Vaseraga: Hmm...
I don't want to say no, but I'm afraid my presence will make the other tourists uncomfortable.
Vaseraga: I mean, look at me. If I'm with you all, I'll probably end up drawing unwanted attention.
Lyria: Aww... But it doesn't bother us at all.
Vyrn: Yeah, don't sweat the small stuff. Besides, I'm sure you're tired from workin' all the time. Don't ya wanna kick back and relax?
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga's expression wavers for a moment, only to return to his usual demeanor in the blink of an eye.
Vaseraga: There's such a thing as too much relaxation...
Ilsa: ...
Ilsa: You leave me with no choice but to play my trump card, Armored Chicken.
Vaseraga: ...?
What do you mean, Ilsa?
Ilsa: Heh. Let's show this poltroon who's in charge here! Bring out the goods!
Lyria: Yes, ma'am! On three! One, two...
Lyria & Vyrn: Three!
(Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn proudly reveal their surprise.
Vaseraga: Is this... some kind of fabric?
Vaseraga's confusion deepens as the crew push the bundle of fabric into his hands in earnest.
Vaseraga: It's... a bathing suit. "Large size for Draph men"...
Vaseraga: Don't tell me...
Lyria: Yep! It's a present from all of us!
Vyrn: We all racked our heads with Red, Blue, Sourpuss, and Scary Lady!
Vyrn: And this is the one we picked out together!
Vaseraga: ...
Ilsa: Oh, Armored Chicken. I bet now you're worried about revealing all those scars underneath your armor. Am I correct?
Vaseraga: Am I that easy to read?
Ilsa: If you don't want to be the center of attention, then I'll give you this.
Ilsa: This is my most beloved, luxury brand concealer.
Ilsa: You're in luck. This bottle should be enough to cover up everything. And if that's not enough, then I've got plenty more in stock.
Vaseraga: Con... What? What's that?
Ilsa: You really have no idea? When it comes to hiding dark circles underneath your eyes, concealer is your trusted vanguard.
Ilsa: This brand in particular is renowned for its high quality. I'm sure even your dainty skin won't have any troubles with it.
Ilsa: And this shade perfectly blends in with your skin tone. Go on and try it.
Vaseraga: ...
Ilsa: What's wrong? Do you want some foundation and lipstick too?
Vaseraga: No, it's not that.
Vaseraga: None of this stuff looks cheap. I didn't think you guys would go this far for me.
Underneath the shadow of his helmet, Vaseraga makes eye contact with (Captain).
  1. We wanna spend time with you, Vaseraga.

Choose: We wanna spend time with you, Vaseraga.
Vaseraga: All right.
Vaseraga: Never thought I'd be here doing this, but I suppose that's just life.
Ilsa: The offer for lipstick and foundation is still on the table. Are you sure you want to go out without them?
Vaseraga: Nah, I'll pass. I can't say no to kids though.
Lyria: Yay! You're so nice, Vaseraga!
Ilsa: Pupper and the others are going to be happy to hear this—they weren't frolicking around the store looking for your swimwear for nothing.
All right, let's refocus now.
Ilsa: Everyone! Prepare for immediate departure! Vacations don't last forever! We must strike while the iron's still hot!
Vyrn: Roger that! We won't waste a second!
Ilsa: Commence swift preparations! Assemble at the deck when you're done! Dismissed!
Lyria: Yes!
Ilsa: All right, is everyone here? Make sure you haven't forgotten anything!
Vaseraga: Sports drink, parasol, beach ball... check. The commander's concealer, check. Oh, and Vyrn.
Vaseraga: Looks like I've got everything on me.
Vyrn: H-hey! Are you planning on carrying me?
Vaseraga: Yeah. Since you're so small, it'll be easy to lose you. I wouldn't want that to happen.
Vyrn: Oh... Well, I guess if you're doing it outta good intentions, then I shouldn't complain...
Lyria: Hehe, but I gotta say, Vaseraga's swimsuit is pretty amazing!
Lyria: There's lots of space to carry things around, and it looks super cool on you! Don't you think so too, (Captain)?
(Captain) grins and nods in agreement.
Vaseraga: I appreciate the compliments, but I just can't get used to hearing them. Save them for Ilsa.
Vaseraga: She's more energetic and prepared than anyone else here—really showing us who's the commander.
Ilsa: Of course! It would be a dereliction of my duties if you all failed to get adequate rest.
Ilsa: That's why, on behalf of my fellow Society members who aren't joining us today, I'll be watching you all closely!
Ilsa: But more importantly, everyone's mission is to enjoy themselves to the fullest at this beach resort!
Ilsa: After all, it's not everyday I get a chance to wear this beautiful swimsuit made by Korwa!
Vaseraga: So that's why you're gung ho about this.
Vaseraga shrugs to himself as Ilsa's voice continues to boom across the deck of the airship.
Ilsa: Are you ready, everyone? Let's go!
Lyria & Vyrn: Roger!
Vaseraga watches the crew as they skip off into the blazing summer sun.
Squinting his eyes, he takes in the dazzling scene before him.

In the Sunlight

Vaseraga watches (Captain) and the crew play from a distance. Noticing his hesitancy, Ilsa encourages him to move on from the past and enjoy himself. Vaseraga takes her words into consideration as he goes to buy drinks for everyone. However, before he can purchase anything, a man mistakes him for a cast member and drags him into a haunted house.

Ilsa: Phew...
Ilsa: What a spectacular aroma.
Ilsa: The ocean's scent reminds me of the times when I would use salt as an explosive on the battlefield to turn the tides... The smell of victory. Heh.
Ilsa closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Meanwhile, (Captain) and the crew unabashedly romp across the sand.
Vyrn: Look, it's the ocean!
Lyria: Wait for me, Vyrn!
Ilsa: Stop right there! We haven't warmed up yet! Get to stretching, everyone!
Ilsa: I won't have any accidents happening on my watch—especially not in the water. Better keep a close eye on everyone.
While Ilsa looks around, she notices Vaseraga sitting comfortably under the parasol he had just finished setting up.
Vaseraga: Hm. Guess I'll just stay here.
Ilsa: Oh? Hiding in the shadows, aren't we? Why don't you go join (Captain) and the others in the water?
Vaseraga: I think the shadows suit me better.
Ilsa: Are you worried about getting sunburnt? There's no need for that—the concealer doubles as sunscreen.
Ilsa: Wait, I get it. You're afraid of getting all rusty in the water.
Vaseraga: Heh. Some sun and water isn't going to wreck this augmented body of mine.
Vaseraga: I'm just taking things at my own pace. Summer days are long. There's no need to rush.
As the words come out of his mouth, Vaseraga gazes at the crew carrying out their warm-up exercises.
Vaseraga: They're so innocent. Seeing them fool around like that makes them no different from any other regular bunch of kids.
Ilsa: Yeah... You're right.
Ilsa: Maybe you should also try remembering what it's like to be an innocent kid again. It would do you some good to join us.
Ilsa: Sometimes, it's important to just let go and try something new. Your mind and body deserve a break.
Vaseraga: ...
Ilsa: I'm not telling you to forget about the past. But show me that you're able to move forward.
Ilsa: That's what your crew members want to see from you. Do it for them... both past and present.
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga: You've got a point.
Vaseraga: All right.
As if Ilsa's words stirred something inside, Vaseraga stands up and turns his back against the ocean.
Ilsa: Right when I thought you had made up your mind... Just where do you plan on going?
Vaseraga: I'm going to buy some drinks for us. With the way the kids are running around, they'll get thirsty before we know it.
Ilsa: Well then, in that case, allow me to place an order as well. Get me some tropical juice.
Vaseraga: Got it.
Ilsa watches as the enormous man hoists his giant scythe onto his back and walks away along the shoreline.
Vaseraga: There's a lot of stores here. What should I do...
Dozens of small shops stretch down across the beachfront, all of them advertising food and drink. Puzzled, Vaseraga mulls over which one he should choose.
Just as he's about to step inside one, a voice calls out to him.
Man: Hey, you over there! Wait up!
Vaseraga: ...?
Are you talking to me?
Man: Is this where you've been the whole time? I've been looking for you!
Vaseraga: You were looking for me? Why?
Man: It's almost time for you to start, that's why! Come on, keep it together. I can't do this without you!
Ignoring Vaseraga's obvious confusion, the man pulls at his arm and leads the way.
It's clear there's a big misunderstanding between the two.
Vaseraga: ("I can't do this without you"? Did monsters show up or something?)
Intrigued by the man's words, Vaseraga follows along for now.
Man: All right, we're here! Hurry up and get ready!
Vaseraga: This is...
The two arrive in front of a certain building. Vaseraga's eyes fall upon a large sign plastered across the storefront.
Vaseraga: A haunted house, huh.
And so, Vaseraga's little adventure begins.

In the Sunlight: Scene 2

Following a trail of clues, the crew finds Vaseraga working as a mummy at the haunted house. Vaseraga explains how he didn't want to disappoint the kids waiting in line and decided to go for it. Much to his own surprise, he enjoyed the experience. Suddenly, monsters appear out of nowhere, and the crew rush into action.

Vyrn: So you're sayin' that Spiky went off to go buy some drinks and never came back? Dang, wonder what's takin' him so long.
Ilsa: Correct. I should've warned him to not get distracted and wander off on his own.
(Captain) and company make their way across the beach as they attempt to find Vaseraga.
The beach is packed with more tourists than usual, which throws a wrench in the crew's search.
Child 1: That was so fun!
Child 2: Yeah! It was awesome!
Child 1: Did you see that huge scythe?
Child 2: Yeah, did you see how big he was? And he was super nice too! He even picked me up when I fell down!
Ilsa: It can't be...
Vyrn: Are you guys thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?
Lyria: Yeah. I think we just heard an important clue...
Keeping their ears perked, the crew slow down to a stop as they listen to the voices of people passing by them.
Among all the hubbub, a certain conversation cuts through the noise and grabs their attention.
Child 3: The mummy guy was super-duper big!
Father: Yeah, he was way bigger than me!
Vyrn: Did he just say mummy guy? Oh man, that's probably him...
Ilsa: I just can't wrap my head around it. How does he end up in that sort of place while buying some drinks?
Lyria: D-do you mean a h-haunted house? Why would Vaseraga be in there?
Ilsa: If he's not, then I'd love to recruit whoever they're talking about. I was just thinking we need another guy who can carry a huge scythe.
Vyrn: Let's just go and figure out what's happenin'!
Among the rows of shops, a conspicuous haunted house looms into view—the last place that Vaseraga would ever willingly enter.
The crew rush inside, hoping that their friend hasn't found himself in some sort of trouble.
Vyrn: Uhh... I thought this place was for kids, but it looks like the real deal...
Ilsa: You're holding onto your own tail. Don't wimp out on me now.
Vyrn: Me, wimpy? As if this stuff would freak me out! This is nothing!
Ilsa: Heh, that's more like it.
Vyrn: I'm not s-scared of anything! Even if an arrow or a bullet was flyin' at me, I wouldn't flin—
Vaseraga's Voice: Ooooh...
Vyrn: Eek!
Ilsa: That voice sounds familiar...
Lyria: Eep... I think it's coming from over there...
(Captain) and the group make their way through the darkness into the depths of the haunted house.
As they get closer to the source, the foreboding voice reverberates again, sending chills down their spine.
Vaseraga: You dare to look?
Vaseraga: Be careful what you wish for!
Customers: Ahh!
Lyria & Vyrn: Ahhhh!
Vyrn: Whoa! What the heck are ya doin', Spiky?
Vaseraga: Oh, it looked like a tiny dragon flew by, but it's just you, Vyrn.
Vaseraga: You can hide inside my pocket if you're scared.
Vyrn: Not happenin'!
Lyria: Vaseraga, how did you end up in a place like this?
Ilsa: I don't see any drinks being sold here.
A subtle hint of excitement cuts through Vaseraga's usual stoic demeanor, piquing (Captain)'s interest.
Vaseraga: Sorry. Something unforeseen came up.
Vaseraga explains how he was mistaken for a cast member and ended up being dragged here.
He thought about clearing up the misunderstanding right then and there, but stopped himself.
Vaseraga: He said that he couldn't do something without me. At first, I thought he was talking about clearing away some monsters.
Vaseraga: I was planning on leaving... but then I saw all the kids waiting in line. I couldn't bring myself to disappoint them.
Vaseraga: And Ilsa's words about trying something new resonated with me. That's why I figured there was no harm in staying.
Ilsa: Excuse me? That's your reasoning for debuting as a haunted house actor? There's a time and place for everything, Armored Chicken.
Lyria: But then again, it's just like Vaseraga to go out of his way to help people!
Ilsa: That's true, but you could've at least contacted us.
Vyrn: Exactly! Don't keep us in the dark! Either way, we're glad you didn't end up in some real trouble.
Vaseraga: Yeah, you're right. Sorry about making you guys worried.
Vyrn: You think a few words is gonna cut it? As your punishment, you're gonna hang out with us all day long until you drop dead!
Lyria: Yeah! We haven't spent any time together yet today!
Ilsa: Looks like the customers have all left too. Let's explain the situation to the staff and get out of here.
Vaseraga: Understood.
As soon as the crew turn on their heels to leave...
Women's Screams: Ahhh!
Ilsa: ...!
Vaseraga: Were those...
Vyrn: The customers from earlier right? Maybe they just got scared by the haunted house again.
Ilsa: No, those screams were definitely different. It sounds like they're in danger!
Lyria: Oh no!
Vaseraga: Let's go!
Customer 1: Ugh... I can't breathe...
Customer 2: Let go of me!
Monster: Groooar!
Vaseraga: ...!
Vyrn: What the heck is goin' on? Where'd all these monsters come from?
Ilsa: Tch! Someone placed a lure here!
Vaseraga: Save the explanations for later! Get ready, Ilsa! (Captain)!

In the Sunlight: Scene 3

The crew finds out the monsters were accidentally summoned after taking care of them. Vaseraga clears up the misunderstanding with the haunted house's owner and returns to the beach with everyone. Putting his own uncertainties aside, Vaseraga decides to spend time with the crew. Little by little, he is able to face the future and move forward.

Monsters: ...
Once the crew defeats all the monsters, Ilsa storms over to the area where the enemies first appeared.
Vyrn: Hey, didn't ya mention something about a "lure" earlier, Scary Lady?
Ilsa: Yes, this thing right here.
The crew watches as Ilsa rips off a piece of paper from the wall and tears it in two.
Lyria: What was that?
Ilsa: A symbol that I've only seen in ancient literature... It's an evil talisman that originated from a small country.
Vyrn: Evil talisman!
Ilsa: It's designed to kill the user's target by summoning wicked spirits. Although crude, it's effective.
Lyria: What? Who would do such a thing!
Vaseraga: Don't tell me that I was dragged into some kind of nefarious plot?
Ilsa: Who knows. First of all, we need to figure out who drew this talisman.
Vaseraga: ...
I guess there's only one person to ask.
Suddenly, a flustered man comes running up to the crew.
Man: You guys! Are you all okay?
Vyrn: Who's this guy? Do ya know him?
Vaseraga: Yeah. He's the one who took me to the haunted house.
Man: I just had two customers run up to the front desk and tell me they were attacked by monsters!
Man: They said you guys saved their lives! Is anyone hurt?
Ilsa: We're fine. But before anything else, I'd like you to answer my question. Where did you get this evil talisman?
Man: Evil talisman? You mean this thing? Oh no, how could it be...
Under Ilsa's intimidating gaze, the man tearfully explains that he handcrafted all the decorations in the haunted house.
While looking for design inspirations, he came across some symbols in a suspicious-looking book and copied them.
Vyrn: So you didn't do it on purpose then?
Man: Of course not! I had no idea this would happen!
Ilsa: Sigh... I understand the situation now. We should fan out and destroy every talisman in the area just in case.
Man: That sounds like a good plan. We should get rid of them as quickly as possible.
Man: And as for the gentleman that I dragged here earlier... I'm really sorry. I genuinely thought you were one of our staff. The real cast members just showed up a few minutes ago...
The man bows his head deeply while rattling off a long apology to Vaseraga.
Man: When I saw you with all those bandages and that giant scythe, I didn't even question for a second... I'm so sorry!
Vaseraga: Don't worry about it. I'm glad I was able to help you out in some way.
Vaseraga: Even though things got a bit shaky, it all worked out in the end. It was a good experience for me.
Vyrn: True, it looked like you were havin' fun.
Lyria: As long as you enjoyed yourself, then that's what really matters!
Vaseraga: Yeah... Seeing all the little kids run around, laughing, being surprised... It was nice.
Hearing the warmth in Vaseraga's voice as he recalls the day's events, (Captain) and the crew let out a collective sigh of relief.
Lyria: Wow, would you look at the time! I can't believe the day's already over. Look at how pretty the sunset is!
Vyrn: The guy at the haunted house gave us tons of food as an apology too! Let's eat up and then go back in the water!
Vyrn: With Spiky this time around, of course!
Vaseraga: I suppose.
Ilsa: So, Armored Chicken, how'd it feel to do something different for a change?
Ilsa: Still think you should've stayed back on the ship instead of coming to the beach with us?
Lyria: ...
Vyrn: Nom nom... Gulp.
Vyrn: C'mon, tell us, Spiky!
Vaseraga: Hmm...
Vaseraga: Fooling around and having fun just doesn't suit me. That much hasn't changed.
Lyria: Oh... I see...
Vaseraga: And especially when something bad happens, any shred of play that existed goes flying out the window, like today.
Vaseraga: I'm just like you guys.
Lyria: ...!
Vaseraga: Well, it's not exactly a bad thing. It's times like this when the commander's strict training shines.
Ilsa: Heh. Of course.
Vaseraga: In the end, whether I need to take a breather in such a lively place like this...
Vaseraga: Is still up in the air.
Lyria: ...
Vaseraga: But watching you all fool around today made me realize something.
Vaseraga: Having fun... is something that's necessary for you.
Vaseraga: And if it's necessary for you, then it's necessary for me to be there so I can protect those peaceful moments.
Vaseraga: You all are my priority and I won't let anything else get in the way—even this appearance of mine.
Vyrn: Spikyyy! Does that mean you'll hang out with us more?
Lyria: I'm so happy to hear that you've come around, Vaseraga!
After hearing Vaseraga's change of heart, (Captain) and company beam at him.
Vaseraga's facial expression softens as he gazes down at the wide smiles of his crew members.
Vaseraga: I guess there's a home for everyone.
Ilsa: Do haunted houses count?
Vaseraga: ...
Vyrn: Hm? Did ya say somethin'?
Vaseraga: No... I think I've spoken enough.
Ilsa: Heh-heh.
Lyria: No, please, keep talking! I wanna hear more and more from you!
Vaseraga: Heh, you guys really are something else.
Vaseraga: I don't fully understand, but...
Vaseraga: It seems like (Captain), Zeta, and Ilsa have all got it figured out for me.
Vaseraga: I probably shouldn't think too much and just dive right in. I'm sure I'll learn more that way.
Vaseraga: And of course, I don't want to go at it by myself.
Vyrn: Oh? Spiky's bein' real honest now!
Lyria: I really like that you're looking toward the future!
Vyrn: All right! I'm getting pumped! We're gonna see and do all sorts of things together!
Vyrn: Oh, but remember to not run off by yourself like you did today.
Vyrn: What are you gonna do if we're not there to protect you?
Vaseraga: ...
Vyrn: ...?
What's wrong?
Vaseraga: Nothing. It's just... you want to protect me, huh...
Vaseraga: Heh. Heh-heh.
Vaseraga: Hahaha!
Vyrn: What the heck?
Vyrn: Hey, Spiky! What's so funny about what I said?
Lyria: Hehehe!
Vaseraga: (They want to protect me too...)
Wielding a great scythe on his rugged back, Vaseraga's fortitude seems ever infallible.
A man who relies on the power of the darkness, he seeks to protect his loved ones, even at his own expense.
His arduous journey has been fraught with challenges and barren of peace, until today.
As his friends march with him on his travels, they can only wish for this moment of tranquility to continue.
