Sharpen the Tongue
Sierokarte asks the crew to help out at her beach house, and Tanya is asked to work as a waitress. She's nervous about that, so the crew helps her practice until she builds up her self-confidence.
Warm shafts of sunlight signal the onset of summer as (Captain) and company head toward Sierokarte's beach house at her invitation.
Tanya: ...
(Captain) walks up to Tanya, who's cheerfully staring at the sky.
Tanya: Huh? Something wrong, (Captain)?
Tanya: You want to know if I'm excited about the resort? Um... Well, you know.
Tanya: I-it's my first time here. So I guess I'm excited.
Staring at the vast sky above her, Tanya toys with thoughts of unknown experiences in unknown lands.
Tanya, who's better with her knives than her tongue, has finally opened up to the crew on their journey across the sky.
The crew infiltrates the cave serving as the hideout for a group of thugs and encounters a woman wielding multiple knives.Vyrn: Whoa! She's ready to pounce! Watch out, (Captain)! She's gotta be another thug!
Tanya: Humph. Th-thug, you say?
Tanya: I guess I have no choice...
Vyrn: ...!
Lyria: Um... (Captain), can I borrow you for a sec?
Lyria: She might not be a thug at all...
Tanya: Wait... Aren't you the thugs?
Having believed each other to be thugs, both parties realize their mistake and come to an understanding.
Tanya then apologizes for her halting speech and departs the area.
Not satisfied with this one-sided departure, the crew pursues her and proposes that she join the crew.
Tanya: I'll pass. I'll just get in your way. Y-you'll be better off far away from me.
Lyria: Don't say that! I want to travel with you, Tanya! Won't you reconsider?
Tanya: Y-you sure I won't be a burden, Lyria?
Tanya: Tee-hee... Y-you know, it's been a long time since I felt a warmth like this.
Tanya: You know what? All right... I am at your service.
Thus Tanya, who's better with her knives than her tongue, joins the crew.
Though her manner of speaking shows little improvement, she soon opens up to the crew.
Vyrn: Ahoy! (Captain)! Looks like we'll reach Auguste soon!
After arriving at Auguste, the crew is met by Sierokarte, who guides them to the resort.
Tanya: ...
Lyria: Oh, wow! This place is so beautiful! Right, Tanya?
Tanya: Y-yeah. Really beautiful.
Sierokarte: Hee-hee. I'm glad you guys like it.
Sierokarte: But I've actually prepared a little surprise to make this place even more fun.
Smiling broadly, Sierokarte hands the crew several outfits.
Tanya: Huh? What are these?
Sierokarte: My custom-ordered swimsuits. No beach vacation is complete without these. Now come. This way to the dressing room.
With their swimsuits in hand, each member of the crew goes to the dressing room to change.
After a little while, Tanya appears before the crew in her swimsuit.
Tanya: What do you think? D-does it suit me?
Sierokarte: Oh! That look's perfect for you!
Tanya: R-really? That's good. I kinda like it.
Lyria: You look beautiful, Tanya!
Tanya: ...
Vyrn: Huh? What's wrong?
Tanya: B-beautiful? I'm not really used to praise, but it feels good.
Sierokarte: Ahem... Sorry to interrupt all the excitement, but I've been wondering if you guys could do me a small favor.
Sierokarte reveals that she's short of workers for her beach house.
She asks the crew to help out and says doing so will cover the cost of their swimsuits.
Vyrn: Sheesh... This was your plan from the beginning, wasn't it?
Lyria: It's all right, Vyrn. Let's all help out!
Vyrn: Sigh... Well, we don't really have a choice now, so we might as well give it our all!
Tanya: Y-yeah. Let's do what we can.
Sierokarte: Thank you so much. Very well then. Let's split you up into roles.
Sierokarte: Let's see... Tanya, I'd like you to serve customers in the dining area if you could.
Tanya: Huh? M-me? Serving people? Does that mean I have to, you know, talk to them?
Sierokarte: Indeed. When taking orders from customers and conveying them to the cook, communication is essential.
Tanya: N-no way! Not for me. I'm a terrible talker. I'll just cause trouble!
Sierokarte: Hee-hee. It'll be fine. I'll help you out.
Tanya: Ugh... But...
Lyria: Hmm... I know! (Captain), why don't you pretend to be a customer for practice?
Sierokarte: Oh! A most excellent suggestion. Let's give it a try right away!
The group starts practicing. (Captain) sits down, and Tanya pretends to be the waitress.
Tanya: ...
Tanya: Whaddya want?
Sierokarte: Hmm... I'm afraid that won't do. You'll scare the customers, Tanya.
Sierokarte: Try to be a little more polite and personable. Okay, let's give it another go.
Tanya: Ugh... S-sorry. Um...
Tanya: May I... take your order... please?
Sierokarte: Oh! That was quite an improvement. Don't you agree, (Captain)?
- That was great!
- You definitely have potential.
Choose: That was great!Tanya: R-really?
Vyrn: You bet! You could use a bit more confidence, but it's fine to just be yourself.
Tanya: Y-yeah? Tee-hee. I'm actually feeling a little more confident already.
Choose: You definitely have potential.Sierokarte: That's right. If you keep practicing like this, you'll be serving like a professional in no time.
Lyria: Yeah! And we'll be there to help you, Tanya!
Tanya: Thanks, guys.
Continue 1Tanya: Um... S-so can we practice just a little more?
After practicing with the crew, Tanya resolves to make the most of her training.
As the opening day of the beach house approaches, she grows more certain that her new skills will serve her well.
Listen to the Flow
Tanya awkwardly does her job. While she's listening to some children talk, there's an angry voice from outside the restaurant, and the crew heads out to find a man drawing his sword on some kids.
A few days after (Captain)'s crew arrives at the resort, it's finally opening day.
Tanya, who has changed into her swimsuit, has been asked to help out at the beach house along with the rest of the party.
Tanya: Um... M-may I take your order please?
Cheerful Customer: Oh! You must be new to this job. Your first time with customers, am I right?
Tanya: Oh, sorry. D-did I say something wrong?
Cheerful Customer: Ha-ha! Not at all! Keep at it now. I've got your back!
Tanya: Thanks.
As Tanya awkwardly serves each customer, the children visiting the beach house start to gather around her.
Boy: Um... Miss, why are you carrying knives?
Tanya: Y-you mean these? Well, touching them calms me down.
Children: ...
Tanya: Oh, I mean... Sorry, did I scare you? I-it's not like that.
Girl: Wow, so touching them calms you down! You're an odd one!
Girl: Hee-hee. There's actually something that calms me down when I hold it too!
Boy: Ha-ha! Yeah, me too! And I can show you 'cause it's right here with me!
Tanya: O-oh, really? Okay then. What is it?
The boy pulls out a twig and proudly shows it to Tanya.
Tanya: Wow... That's a cool twig.
Boy: Heh-heh! I know, right? And you know what? I had to walk super far to find it!
Tanya: Tee-hee... Did you now? Good work.
Girl: Hey! Listen to my story too!
Kindly Woman: Hee-hee... You're quite a listener. The kids look so pleased to be around you.
Tanya: Huh? N-not really...
As Tanya chats pleasantly with the kids and customers, there's suddenly a loud voice from outside the beach house.
Vyrn: What's up? A fight?
Tanya: (Captain), come on.
Youngster: Hey! This is our place! You hear me?
Hot-Headed Man: Shut up! Get out of here! Or would you rather I settle things with this?
Vyrn: Uh-oh! That guy just whipped out his sword!
Tanya: Let's stop them. This is no place to be fighting.
Listen to the Flow: Scene 2
Tanya calms two warring groups, finds out why they're fighting, and proposes a solution. One group agrees with her, but the other attacks the crew instead.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Crud! You're tougher than you look.
Tanya: Calm down. Now what's this all about?
Youngster 1: See, we already secured this stretch of beach in order to play.
Hot-Headed Man 1: What? We called this place before you even got here!
Youngster 1: What? No way! We were first!
Tanya: I said calm down. L-let's hear the whole story.
Tanya listens earnestly to each party's explanation in turn.
Each group apparently wishes to play on the same stretch of beach.
But they called dibs at almost the same time, which has resulted in an argument.
Tanya: O-okay. I think I got the gist of it.
Tanya: I know. What if you all played together?
Hot-Headed Man 1: Excuse me?
Tanya: Well, I mean, the sea's basically for everyone.
Tanya: I think it'd b-be much better to have fun together than fight.
Youngster 1: Hmm... You have a point. It was probably wrong of us to try and have the whole area to ourselves like that in the first place.
Youngster 2: All right! We're fine with that. What about you guys?
Hot-Headed Man 1: What? No way! As if we'd befriend you lot!
Hot-Headed Man 2: Yeah, and what's with you, lady? Actin' all high-and-mighty!
Tanya: Um... Th-that's not it at all. I wasn't trying to judge you.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Shut it!
Vyrn: Whoa! They're drawing their swords again! These guys get worked up way too easily!
Tanya: Sigh... You leave me no choice.
Tanya: Guess I have to help you cool down again.
Listen to the Flow: Scene 3
Tanya helps the groups resolve their differences, and the young men and children visit the beach house the next day to talk to Tanya. Tanya later reflects on her wonderful day in the light of the setting sun.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Ugh... Grrr...
Tanya: Hey. Calmed down yet?
Hot-Headed Man 2: Humph... Yeah, I'm a lot better now.
Tanya: Listen, I want you guys to get lost.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Heh... Right... Fair enough. We screwed up, so I guess that's it for our summer vacation.
Tanya: Oh, wait! Th-that's not what I meant.
Tanya: I wasn't clear. Sorry. I meant I want you guys to get lost if you insist on fighting.
Tanya: This is a fun place. It's hard to explain, but both children and adults enjoy this place, right?
Tanya: A-and that means you have the right to enjoy this place too. But you can't go ruining the fun for others.
Tanya: If you have anything else to say, I'll listen.
Tanya earnestly stares at the thugs.
Hot-Headed Man 1: What's your name anyway?
Tanya: Huh? I'm Tanya.
Hot-Headed Man 2: Oh! Tanya! You're so considerate! I can't believe you're still willing to hear us out.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Hey, you guys. Look, we're really sorry. I know it's a little late, but would you like to join us?
Youngster 2: Sure. I mean, we can't really say no with Tanya standing right here anyway.
The young men shake hands. With their conflict resolved, they start playing together.
The youngsters and thugs come to the beach house the next day.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Hey, Tanya. Can I talk to you for a sec?
Tanya: Sure. But first, your order.
Youngster 1: Ha-ha! She sure brushed you off!
Tanya: You too. Order something.
Youngster 1: Huh? Er, okay.
Vyrn: Sigh... After all the trouble they caused, they just waltz on in to talk to Tanya.
Hot-Headed Man 2: Um... I'm not sure why, but I find myself wantin' to talk to you, Tanya.
Youngster 2: Yeah! You're such a good listener that I feel like I could talk to you about anything!
Tanya: Well, everything you guys have to say is so interesting. I never get bored.
Girl: No fair! How come only you boys are talking? I wanna talk to her too!
Girl: Hey, Tanya! This is for you!
Tanya receives a beautifully-colored seashell from the child.
Girl: This is what I was talking about yesterday. It's what calms me down when I touch it! Take it!
Tanya: Are you sure?
Girl: Yeah!
Tanya: Tee-hee... Thanks. I-it's so beautiful.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Heh... Not as beautiful as you, Tanya.
Youngster 1: Yikes, man! With pickup lines like that, I bet you get all the girls—to flee for the hills.
Hot-Headed Man 1: Ha-ha! Shut up, dragon dung!
Tanya: Tee-hee...
Smiling, Tanya listens to the customers' stories as she takes their orders.
As she cleans up after work, Tanya gazes at the seashell from the girl.
Tanya: Tee-hee... It certainly is relaxing to touch.
Tanya: I-it makes me feel so warm inside.
Tanya: Hey, (Captain)... H-how was I? With the customers, I mean?
- You did great!
- Did you enjoy yourself?
Choose: You did great!Tanya: R-really?
Sierokarte: Your service was splendid. Who would have thought that you would get on so well with the customers?
Lyria: Hee-hee. And you were such a good listener too, Tanya!
Choose: Did you enjoy yourself?Tanya: Y-yeah, I did. It was great fun.
Tanya: Everyone was great. And it was so interesting to talk with them.
Lyria: Hee-hee. You really talked up a storm, huh?
Vyrn: Heh-heh. Yeah, you're a surprisingly good listener!
Continue 1Tanya: I dunno about that. All the stories were just so interesting that I kinda lost myself.
Sierokarte: Hee-hee. That's a gift you have there. You'd do well to treasure it.
Tanya: Yeah. I guess you're right. Tee-hee...
Tanya: Hey, everyone. Today was a lot of fun, and I have all of you to thank for it.
Tanya: You're the best, guys.
Warm, golden rays of a setting sun shine on Tanya and the rest of the crew.
But even as the sun warms Tanya's body from without, something more precious warms her from within.
