Spooky Vicky

While the children excitedly board the unmanned Grandcypher, Vikala racks her brains to figure out a way to get them to leave. After Vikala lies about the ship being haunted, Dormouse's entrance convinces the children that Vikala is a ghost herself. Rather than being scared, however, the children view her as a friend, leaving her stunned.

The little girl points straight at the Grandcypher as their next target.
Vikala: (Whaaa!)
Loud Hallowaheyer: Play pranks on a ship? You sure think of some interesting things!
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Kids have the best ideas sometimes. This is gonna be hilarious!
Vikala: (It's not hilarious at all!)
Friendly Boy: None of the lights are on. That probably means no one's home.
Attentive Boy: I call first dibs!
Friendly Boy: Heeey! No fair!
Vikala: W-wait... Y-you can't just hop on... someone's ship without permission...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Come on, what's the big problem? We'll be in and out before they notice.
Curious Girl: This is some skyfaring crew's ship, right? It's my first time on one!
Attentive Boy: Think they keep weapons somewhere on board? They've got to if they're skyfarers... I wanna see some cool weapons!
Vikala: A-ah... Ahh...
Curious Girl: What's the matter, Vikala?
Because she had lied about being from the next town over, Vikala finds herself unable to admit that this ship is, in fact, her crew's.
The children would not be likely to care, even if she did have the courage to tell them this was her crew's ship.
As she's thinking about all of this, the words spill out from her.
Vikala: Th-this... this must be a ghost ship!
Children: A ghost ship?
Vikala: It's a sh-ship where ghosts live, so if you play pranks on it... you're going to get c-cursed...
Loud Hallowaheyer: Bwahaha! Oh come on, are you kidding me? Ghosts?
Attentive Boy: Why do you think this is a ghost ship?
Vikala: Well, um... That's because...
Curious Girl: ...
Vikala: Hngh...
Curious Girl: Wait... Hold on a second, everyone.
Loud Hallowaheyer: Hm? What's wrong?
Curious Girl: Now that I think about it, nobody noticed Vikala earlier... right?
Vikala: ...
Curious Girl: I thought it was weird. I mean, normally you'd hear someone calling out to you, right?
Attentive Boy: No way... You mean... no one actually saw Vikala?
Curious Girl: And we're the only ones... who were able to see her.
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Hooold it. You're pulling my leg, right? No way this is a real ghost story.
Friendly Boy: But if we think back...
Curious Girl: How come you were trying to talk to the people on the street? If you're from the town over, you should know the way, right?
Vikala: I... can't tell you.
Loud Hallowaheyer: Yeah, but... so what?
Attentive Boy: In other words... she wasn't just trying to talk to people.
Curious Girl: She was looking for someone who could see her this whole time...
Curious Girl: I've heard that ghosts that linger have something they want to tell the people who are still alive.
Curious Girl: Maybe that's why Vikala was calling out to whoever she could on the street...
Friendly Boy: Something she wants to tell? Like what?
Curious Girl: Like a grudge from when she was alive... or regret. Or maybe she could be...
Attentive Boy: Looking for a companion to journey with.
Friendly Boy: No way... She wants to put a curse on us?
Attentive Boy: Her dark expression and dead eyes... Her frail frame... These aren't things a normal person who's alive would have.
Curious Girl: And we just waved her over without a second thought...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Hey, is it just me or... did it get chilly all of a sudden?
A breeze is brought in with the changing of seasons, sweeping across the deck of the ship. The trespassers shiver.
Vikala: U-um, is everyone all right?
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Eek!
Vikala: Huh?
Vikala: (Did she just look at me and go "eek"? Did I do something to offend them?)
Vikala: (Suddenly it feels like they're putting a lot of distance between themselves and me...)
Vikala: Um... why don't all of you come over here to where I am?
Curious Girl: ...!
No! Don't listen to her! She's... calling us over.
Loud Hallowaheyer: Calling us over? To... where?
Curious Girl: To her world, of course!
Friendly Boy: Hey... Vikala's the one who told us this was a ghost ship, right?
Attentive Boy: I was wondering about that too. She was probably... referring to herself.
Curious Girl: She must be haunting this ship...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Oh my gosh...
Vikala: (Why're they backing away from me? Oh, come to think of it... Dormouse told me something before I went out.)
Dormouse: If you don't know what to say, just smile! You'll be friends in no time.
Vikala: Heh, heh heh... Hehehe...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: She's... smiling... She's looking straight at me and smiling!
Loud Hallowaheyer: C-calm down!
Just as the man tries to calm his friend, they hear the clanking of chains slowly getting louder as something approaches.
Loud Hallowaheyer: What's that s-sound?
Curious Girl: It sounds like some sort of... spirit rapping...
Dormouse: Huh? You're back already?
Vikala: Oh... Dorrie!
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Eek! Wh-what is that thing?
Dormouse: Oh, and who might that be?
Dormouse: Vikala... Could it be that you made some friends?
Vikala: Not now, Dorrie... Go over there!
Dormouse: All right, all right. You take your time then.
Although Dormouse had made it so that only Vikala could hear its voice, the others couldn't help but catch sight of it.
Loud Hallowaheyer: Isn't that.. a steel trap for monsters?
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Are those things supposed to move?
Loud Hallowaheyer: I've never heard of a trap that moves...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: H-hey! That metal trap just now... Were you talking to it?
Vikala: (Ohhh dear... They're going to think I'm some weirdo who talks to a metal trap...)
Vikala: H-huh? Of c-course not... I have n-no idea what you're t-t-talking about!
Children: (She's obviously lying...)
Loud Hallowaheyer: Yo, this is bad... Like real bad... We're in some deep trouble...
Attentive Boy: Did we just witness... a psychic phenomenon?
Curious Girl: It must've been the work of a poltergeist!
Noisy Hallowaheyer: No more of this, pleeease...
Vikala: (Oh no, is she o-okay? Maybe she's not feeling well...)
Loud Hallowaheyer: Um, I think we... have something we forgot to do... We should get going.
The Hallowaheyers make to get off the deck of the ship. Worried for the two, Vikala calls out to them.
Vikala: U-um...
Noisy Hallowaheyer: Eeeek! She's f-following us!
Loud Hallowaheyer: Y-you've gotta be kidding me! I'm outta here!
Vikala: Oh... They're gone.
Friendly Boy: Hey... What should we do?
Attentive Boy: If we don't get away now, we're gonna be in trouble too.
Curious Girl: No can do. Vikala's our friend now, remember?
Curious Girl: If we leave her now, she's going to keep wandering around forever.
Friendly Boy: Oh... Yeah, you're right. Vikala's our friend!
Attentive Boy: We can't just leave a lonely ghost by herself on Halloween!
Vikala: (I'm glad the other two are gone, but... the children are still here. I sure hope they're not planning any pranks...)
Vikala: U-um, maybe all of you should go back too...
Curious Girl: Don't worry! We won't leave you all alone, Vikala!
Vikala: Huh? But I'm perfectly fine by myself...
Friendly Boy: Is that what you've been telling yourself this whole time? Well, you have us now!
Attentive Boy: We'll be together forever.
Vikala: (Together forever? But I can't leave the ship to stay with them...)
Vikala: I-I'm afraid that's not possible... We can't be together forever...
Curious Girl: You've still got something left to do (in this life), huh?
Vikala: Erm, I guess you could say that... I just can't leave (this crew)...
Vikala stands on the deck of the ship, unsure of what to do now that the children are refusing to leave.

Spooky Vicky: Scene 2

The misunderstandings deepen as Vikala continues to push the children to leave. Vikala attempts to spook the children into going home, except they turn out to be real ghosts. The children are convinced that Vikala is a fellow ghost, even though she repeatedly denies it. Dormouse comes up with an idea to turn the situation around.

Vikala: U-um, why don't we go back? It's getting late...
Friendly Boy: Did you say... "we"? Does that mean...
Attentive Boy: I get it now... She must mean "take me home with you."
Curious Girl: So she wants us to invite her over... She wants to make us her next target.
Friendly Boy: Do you think Vikala wants to put a curse on us?
Attentive Boy: Maybe we can make it clear that we're her friends.
Curious Girl: Yeah, let's make sure she gets it!
The little girl steps forward and turns to Vikala.
Curious Girl: V-Vikala! You're... a ghost, aren't you?
Vikala: Wha?
Vikala: A gh-ghost? But I'm not a ghost...
Attentive Boy: Oh no, this is gonna be a hassle... She's the type of ghost that doesn't even know she's dead.
Curious Girl: What should we do... If we don't help her, she might turn into an evil spirit...
Friendly Boy: An evil spirit?
Curious Girl: When ghosts doesn't realize they're dead and nobody talks to them for a long time... they become evil spirits.
Attentive Boy: She might go crazy... and end up putting a deadly curse on someone alive.
Friendly Boy: No way... And there's nothing we can do about it?
Vikala: (Huh? They all think I'm a ghost?)
Vikala: (Heh... Hehe. I guess I don't blame them... I have such a lack of presence, I'm basically a ghost...)
Dormouse: Vikala!
Vikala: Oh... D-Dorrie?
The Divine General turns around and sees Dormouse watching her from the shadows on the deck.
Dormouse: I'm not sure what's going on, but if you want to make the children leave, how about you follow along and pretend to be a ghost?
Vikala: A-ah, I see... But I don't know how to be a ghost...
Curious Girl: Vikala must be a sad ghost who came back all by herself on Halloween.
Friendly Boy: I wonder what we can do for her...
Attentive Boy: Yeah. I wanna help her somehow too.
Vikala: Boo... I'm a ghooost...
Curious Girl: ...
Vikala: Boo... I'm gonna e-eat yooou...
The Boys: ...
Curious Girl: Everyone, act surprised. If we help her have a good Halloween, maybe she can finally move on after this.
Vikala: (Th-they don't seem scared at all... Ooh, this is bluing me out...)
Curious Girl: Don't be so sad, Vikala.
Vikala: Eh?
Friendly Boy: Being a ghost isn't so bad, you know.
Vikala: Wha?
Attentive Boy: If there's something you don't know, just ask us, okay?
Vikala: Huh?
Curious Girl: From now on, we'll be together forever. We're your friends.
As they utter these words, the children's bodies begin to fade until they're translucent, as if they were an illusion.
Vikala: Wha... Wh-wh-wha?
Friendly Boy: From today onward, we'll be ghost friends!
Vikala: Whaaa!
Dormouse: Would you look at that... Who would've thought that the children were actually ghosts themselves?
Attentive Boy: When we saw how you were scared of ghosts despite being a ghost yourself, we figured that you thought you were still alive.
Curious Girl: Let's start by accepting it, Vikala. Come with us.
Vikala: B-but I... I-I... I'm a-alive...
Curious Girl: If you were alive, you should be a lot more lively than this. People who are alive are positive and focus on what's in front.
Vikala: Rrg... I'm sorry I'm so negative...
Friendly Boy: You're a stubborn one!
Attentive Boy: She must've died without completely understanding how she died.
Vikala: Um, I'm... really not dead...
Vikala: I-I'm sorry! I lied to everyone earlier... I actually belong here, on this ship...
Friendly Boy: Yeah, we know. You're haunting this ship, right?
Vikala: No, I mean... I'm not haunting it. I'm actually living here...
Curious Girl: Ohh, I see now... You were on this ship when you were still alive.
Curious Girl: Then you came to this town and died. I guess it hasn't been that long since that happened.
Friendly Boy: So she's freshly dead?
Attentive Boy: Then we should take this chance to get her to understand that she's dead now...
Curious Girl: True. If it takes too long for the dead to realize they're dead, it becomes too much of a shock when they finally find out. That's how evil spirits are born.
Curious Girl: Um, Vikala... Calm down and listen to me. This might come as a surprise but... you died.
Vikala: I haven't died yet...
Friendly Boy: We're just going in circles...
Attentive Boy: It's not that bad being a ghost! We can still have fun, so let's give it a try!
Curious Girl: You're dead, Vikala! Your dark expression is proof of that! People who are alive look a lot happier!
Vikala: I'm sowwy I'm awiiive...
Friendly Boy: If you were really still alive, Vikala, people would notice you on the street!
Vikala: Huh? D-does that mean... I really am dead?
Dormouse: Don't be silly!
Vikala: Oh, Dorrie... Perfect timing. Tell me... am I still alive?
Dormouse: Of course you're alive! And don't let go of that shred of confidence you have left as someone alive!
Dormouse: Listen up! Don't let ghosts you don't even know stay too long on this ship, you got it? It can't be good!
Vikala: R-really? But they don't seem to want to leave...
Vikala: And they want to play pranks on the Grandcypher...
Dormouse: Troublesome little ghosts, huh?
Dormouse: But maybe if you show them how lively you can be, that'll get them to understand that you're not dead.
Vikala: L-lively? I don't have that kind of energy...
Dormouse: That's true. At this point, those kids are looking a lot more lively than you...

Spooky Vicky: Scene 3

Dormouse draws the children's attention away from Vikala as she prepares to become Spooky Vicky. (Captain) and the crew return just in time to see Vikala perform. After a satisfying show, the children finally disappear. The crew invite Vikala once again to join them on a night out in town celebrating Halloween.

Dormouse: Hey, kids!
Friendly Boy: Oh, that thing's here again!
Curious Girl: Vikala's poltergeist!
Dormouse: I'm no poltergeist!
Attentive Boy: Did it just talk...
Dormouse: What do you want with Vikala anyway? I'd like you to stop following her around, thank you very much!
Curious Girl: We're not following her! We're trying to stop her from becoming an evil spirit!
Friendly Boy: Huh? Wait, where'd Vikala go?
Dormouse: You don't have to worry about Vikala. She won't become an evil spirit.
Attentive Boy: Really?
Dormouse: Really. Besides, she's not the type to become evil and haunt something.
Dormouse: In fact, she's getting ready to show you just how lively she can be!
Mysterious Voice: Ahahaha!
Friendly Boy: Hey, there's someone over there!
Curious Girl: Whoa! Is that... Vikala?
When a sudden sound breaks the silence, the children look up to see a figure in a cloak.
Vikala: We meet again! Say hello to none other than the ruler of Halloween night, Spooky Vicky!
Curious Girl: ...!
Vikala: Halloween's a quirky occasion on its own, but what do you say we can make tonight full of madness and excitement?
Curious Girl: ...
Children: (She's become an evil spirit...)
To the children, Vikala's sudden change of character appears as her transformation into an evil spirit.
Curious Girl: P-please, Vikala! Go back to your original self! You shouldn't be evil!
Dormouse: She's not an evil spirit!
Vikala: An evil spirit? Me?
Vikala: Haha! That's a funny one! In that case, I'll show you a little something!
Vikala: Go! My loyal lackeys!
Loyal Lackeys: ...!
When Vikala gives her staff a swing, three rat spirits in costumes jump toward the children.
Friendly Boy: Eeek!
The children are now surrounded by the rat spirits, with no way out.
Curious Girl: S-stop!
Friendly Boy: Gyaaah!
Friendly Boy: Ah?
Loyal Lackeys: ...!
The children brace themselves for an attack from the evil spirit of Vikala. Instead, they find the rats dancing merrily around them, and the three break out into laughter.
Attentive Boy: Heh heh!
Curious Girl: Hehe...
Friendly Boy: Heh... Ahaha!
Dormouse: Here I was thinking you were going to chase these kids away... What a show!
Vikala: If I did that, it wouldn't be fun, would it? It's so much better to do things that're even more fun than playing pranks!
Vikala: My Halloween show is a special one that's bound to captivate anyone!
Vyrn: Wouldja look at that! Havin' fun without us?
Lyria: That's amazing, Vikala! This is almost like the festival in town!
Vikala: Ah, welcome back, all of you!
Vikala: That's early of you. The Halloween night's just beginning.
Vyrn: You know it's our second time coming back to the ship, right?
Vyrn: (Captain) kept wanting you to come with us, so we've been looking all over for you.
Vikala: Really? I was out in the town just now, so we might've missed each other.
Lyria: I'm glad we finally found each other. And you put on this wonderful show for us to see too!
Vyrn: So where're these kids from anyway?
Vikala: Hm, they might not be from anywhere. They're ghosts, after all.
Lyria: Whaaa!
Vikala: There's nothing to be scared of, Lyria! In my show, everyone is my friend and an equal!
Vikala: Now, if I may have your attention! The Halloween show is about to start!
Vikala swings her staff again, and the rats put on an even more spectacular show for their audience on deck.
Curious Girl: Wow, that was so fun! Your shows are amazing, Vikala!
Curious Girl: I wish you'd told us earlier that you were actually alive though.
Friendly Boy: You can say that again!
Vikala: Oh, sorry...
Vikala: (Pretty sure I said it a few times...)
Lyria: Um, d-do all of you always... wander around this town?
Attentive Boy: Hmm... We're usually sleeping, and then we wake up for Halloween.
Curious Girl: It's been going on for about two hundred years.
Vyrn: That's a long time...
  1. Do you want to come with us?
  2. Are you Vikala's fans now?

Choose: Do you want to come with us?

Curious Girl: Oooh, you're inviting us to join you? Yay!
Curious Girl: But we like being in this town for Halloween, so we'll probably stay here. I do love Vikala a lot though!
Vikala: Huh? Oh, th-thank you...
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: Are you Vikala's fans now?

Curious Girl: Yep! We've all grown to love Vikala so so much!
Vikala: Th-thank you...
Lyria: That's right! Would all of you like this join us on this ship?
Curious Girl: You're inviting us to join you? Yay!
Curious Girl: But we like being in this town for Halloween, so we'll probably stay here. We love this town just as much as we love Vikala.

Friendly Boy: I wanna see that show again someday!
Attentive Boy: Yeah, it was so fun.
Curious Girl: See you next time!
Without notice, the children wave goodbye and vanish with smiles on their faces.
Lyria: Oh... They disappeared!
Vyrn: The kids were all smilin', so they must've had a lotta fun!
Lyria: Hehe, you're right. I hope we can see them again!
Vikala: (Th-that was tiring... I'm exhausted. I think I'll go back to my room and call it a night...)
  1. Thanks for that.
  2. Well done.

Choose: Thanks for that.

Vikala: Huh? Y-you're thanking me? For what?
Vyrn: You kept the ship safe from pranks, right? Imagine if we found graffiti on the sides...
Lyria: That was a wonderful idea, to solve the situation by putting on a show! Thank you so much, Vikala!
Go to "Continue 2"

Choose: Well done.

Vikala: Huh? Wh-what did I do?
Vyrn: You did a great job protectin' the Grandcypher from the kids' pranks.
Lyria: And I'm glad the children were happy even though they didn't get to play any tricks! You're incredible, Vikala!

Continue 2

Vikala: Erm, well... I d-didn't do much at all...
Vyrn: No need to be so humble! Take some credit for yourself!
Dormouse: Vyrn's absolutely right.
Lyria: Oh, Dormouse!
Dormouse: Before, you would have gone to find someone for help instead of trying to protect the ship yourself.
Dormouse: Doing something about it yourself this time shows just how much you've grown, Vikala!
Dormouse: Or maybe... you tried harder because this was (Captain)'s ship.
Vikala: D-D-Dorrie! What're y-you saying? That's n-not it at all!
The captain extends a hand toward Vikala.
Vikala: Huh? (Captain)?
Vyrn: Heheh! The Halloween night's still young, right?
Lyria: Now that we're finally together, let's go out to the town one more time!
(Captain) smiles at Vikala, encouraging her to come enjoy Halloween with them.
Vikala: Oh... Um, well...
Vikala: Hahaha! Okay, then allow Spooky Vicky to accompany you for the festivities tonight!
Vikala: Off I go, Dormouse!
Dormouse: See you! Have a good time out there this time!
Vikala: Haha! Let's be off then! I'll show everyone here that there's much more to celebrate on Halloween!
Vikala's footsteps are light as she takes (Captain)'s hand and hops off the ship.
Having gained a little more confidence, the Divine General gladly joins her friends for a festive Halloween night.
