Medvecia Fireworks Festival

The next day after the festival, (Captain) and the others wander around the town in search of information on how to hold their own festival. The townsfolk suggest that they hold a festival unique to Medvecia and offer to help by providing the necessary materials and manpower. Vania decides that she would like to celebrate by holding the evening festival on her mother's birthday. The gang head to Medvecia to inform Feldrac and Veight of their plan, but upon telling the two, their only response is a couple of frowns.

The following day, (Captain) and the gang wander around town in search of information on how to hold their own evening festival.
Excited about her upcoming plans, Vania listens carefully to what the townsfolk have to say.
Shopkeeper: That isn't possible!
Vania: It isn't? But why?
Villager: Hrm... Our evening festivals are a kinda tradition that we've been keeping for a long time now. They're... How do I put this?
Shopkeeper: They're messy—way too complicated to organize anywhere else!
Vania: Aww... Really? Isn't there anything you can do about that?
Shopkeeper: There is!
Vyrn: C'mon, lead with that!
Villager: Holding the festival isn't a problem in and of itself.
Vania: Urk... My head hurts. I don't get it.
Shopkeeper: All I'm saying is won't be the exact same festival! These cultural events never are!
Shopkeeper: Manpower? Materials? You name it! I can provide whatever you need. If it's a festival unique to Medvecia you want, I can help!
Lyria: U-uh... Thank you?
Vania: But... I like this town's evening festival!
Villager: How about if I put it like this? A long time ago, our festival was just a small local celebration. But eventually, it became our annual evening festival.
Villager: These kinda things all have to start from somewhere. I'm sure you have something similar to celebrate in Medvecia.
Vania: A similar... celebration?
Vania: Oh, I know! What about my mommy's birthday?
Lyria: Your mother's?
Vyrn: Come to think of it, we've never met her, have we? Only your guardian, Feldrac...
Vania: Of course you haven't. She isn't around anymore.
Vyrn: Huh?
Villager: Ah, sorry for bringing up such a sore subject...
Vania: Hm? What do you mean? She's just gone for now!
Vania: I know she's watching me from somewhere up in the skies!
Vyrn: O-oh... I thought she... Y'know...
Vania: I'm sure she'd love it if we brought a bunch of those fireworks over to Medvecia and had our own show!
Vania: I wanna show her that everybody at home's doing great!
Lyria: Heheh, I think that's a great idea!
Vania: Yeah! Let's throw a party—a big party! How do I always come up with these amazing ideas?
Shopkeeper: I think that'd be a wonderful celebration! Fireworks would fit the event perfectly!
Villager: Are you sure everything will work though? I mean, isn't Medvecia always covered in fog?
Vania: You sure do know your stuff! That's exactly right! It's always pretty gloomy back home...
Shopkeeper: I wouldn't worry too much about that. This is supposed to be a secret, but fireworks and fog go really well together...
Lyria: I-is that so?
Shopkeeper: Especially our fireworks. They're incredibly bright, so I think it'd be just fine!
Shopkeeper: Just imagine... All those bursts of light shining down upon the fog-filled skies! It'd be an experience like no other!
Vania: Hm... I don't see it.
Shopkeeper: Then I guess you have to try and see it for yourself! Just think of it as another thing to look forward to!
Vania: Eheheh. You're funny, mister! And nice too!
Vyrn: Yeah... Almost too nice! I mean, it's really nice of you to help us, but are you sure it's okay for us to borrow your workers and everythin'?
Villager: It's nothing, really. Isn't our darling here a vampire? I'm only returning the favor.
Vania: Huh? But I didn't do anything for you...
Villager: It's Feldrac. He's visited our village in the past—said he wanted to forge a friendly relationship with us.
Villager: Not only that, but he also gave us some advice on how to run the town and helped us secure our trade routes.
Vyrn: Wow, all of that? Pretty impressive!
Vania: Uh-huh! Feldrac is always working super hard!
Vania: So I have to work super hard too! I gotta show him that everything he's done wasn't for nothing!
Vania: All right, I think I'm ready! Let's do this, (Captain)! I hope the rest of you are ready too!
Lyria: Of course! As ready as I'll ever be!
Vania: Let's gooo!
With everybody all fired up, (Captain) and the others work together with the villagers to hammer out the festival's details.
Once the gang had a rough idea of what to do, they made their way to Medvecia to relay the news to Feldrac.
Upon arrival, Vania immediately runs over to Feldrac in order to present to him her amazing plan.
Vania: What do you think? Can we do it? We can have a festival, right? Isn't it such a great idea?
Feldrac: I think your plan is wonderful, Vania. It looks like you've already thought it all out.
Veight: I'm surprised you put so much thought into this, Vania... And all for Medvecia too...
Malinda: Gyoo gyoo!
Vania: Heh-heh, that's right! Praise me more!
Feldrac: However...
Vania: Hm?
Veight: You think so too. Don't you, Feldrac?
Feldrac: Indeed, I do. I'm sorry, Vania, but could you give me some time to think about it?
Vania: H-huh? But why?

Medvecia Fireworks Festival: Scene 2

According to Feldrac, the queen's birthday was a day to be spent solemnly in silence. He tells them that it might be difficult to convince everybody to change such a long-standing tradition. However, some nearby vampires overhear this exchange. They step up, telling the group that the people of the island would be more than happy to listen to an idea coming from Vania. The gang—together with Veight, Sui, You, Kou, Amazuma, and Varga—then proceeds to make the necessary preparations for the upcoming festival.

Visibly perplexed, Vania questions Feldrac's lack of a response.
Vyrn: Why do you need time? Is having a festival a bad idea?
Feldrac: It's not. That's not it at all.
Feldrac: I'm certain you've planned this with your country and people in mind. It would be foolish of me to say otherwise.
Feldrac: I promise you that much.
Lyria: Th-then... why? Is something going on?
Veight: It might be difficult to have it during mother's— ah, I mean the queen's—birthday.
Vania: But why? We'd all be celebrating it together!
Veight: That's exactly the issue...
Feldrac: Do you recall our old castle, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Yeah, you mean the really fancy one? People usually aren't allowed in, right?
Feldrac: That's correct. It is, after all, Her Majesty's former residence—a holy ground of sorts, if you will.
Feldrac: As the keepers of our heritage, it is our duty to preserve those grounds, gone though the queen may be.
Vyrn: What's that gotta do with not bein' able to hold a festival?
Feldrac: The queen and everything surrounding her is considered sacred.
Feldrac: According to our customs, the day of her birth is to be spent solemnly and in silence—a custom that has, in fact, been written into law.
Vania: Written into law? Since when?
Vania: I would always celebrate by baking a cake and singing songs with everybody!
Malinda: Gyoo...
Veight: That was Feldrac respecting your wish to celebrate.
Veight: For others, it was a day of somber.
Vania: R-really? Was I being selfish all this time?
Feldrac: No, absolutely not. It's only natural that we respect your wishes.
Feldrac: I know for a fact that the queen would be overjoyed to know that you spend the day in celebration of her.
Feldrac: But I believe that it is just as important to respect the thoughts of our people. To me, one is no more valuable than the other.
Lyria: I think I kinda get what you mean...
Lyria: Since people already observe the day in an established manner, having the festival would be difficult. Is that it?
Feldrac: If you were to hold the festival on any other day, we'd be able to make the necessary arrangements immediately.
Vania: But... But... it has to be her birthday... I wanted to show her what fireworks are like...
Malinda: Gyooooo...
Feldrac: Calm down, you two. Don't worry. I'll talk to everybody and see if I can convince them.
Feldrac: There's absolutely nothing wrong with your idea, Vania.
Vania: Sniff... Feldrac...
Vyrn: So that's why you said you needed some time... Sorry for jumping to conclusions.
Feldrac: Oh, no. It was me who failed to explain the situation in more detail. In any case, let us inform the others at once.
Vampire 1: That won't be necessary, Lord Feldrac.
Feldrac: Hm?
Veight: Where did you two come from? And when?
Vampire 2: Our deepest apologies. We couldn't help but listen in on your earlier conversation with the guests...
Feldrac: That's fine, but I'd appreciate it if you two explained yourselves.
Vampire 1: Of course. We believe you're thinking too hard about this.
Feldrac: What?
Vampire 1: I'm sorry if I've stepped out of line! I was simply relaying our humble opinion on the matter.
Vampire 2: It's just... We love our princess.. and would like to support her...
Vania: Huh? I love you guys too...
Vampire 2: Thank you! Wait no, I mean... Um... I think everybody would be more than happy to listen if they heard it was Vania's idea... That's all...
Vampire 2: After all, Vania and Malinda are the reason why we're all standing here, alive and well...
Vampire 1: We believe that both those who would like to abide by long-standing traditions and those who want new celebrations can coexist.
Feldrac: Hm...
Vampire 1: Besides, this isn't the first time we've been led astray by the princess's antics—oops, I mean... interesting ideas...
Vampire 1: A-anyway, We'll tell everybody about this! The queen's birthday is right around the corner, so please start making the preparation!
Vania: You guys are too nice... Sniff...
Feldrac: Hahaha, I see... I suppose you're right. I may have been thinking too seriously about the matter.
Feldrac: You two really have grown... Truly...
Malinda: Gyoo! Gyoo!
Malinda cuddles up to Feldrac's legs, and the vampire lord softly pats her on the head.
Feldrac: Haha... Well then, let's begin the preparation, shall we?
Vania: I'm gonna try suuuper hard to make the beeest festival ever! You'll see!
Vania: Let's go get Amazuma and Varga! Oh, Kou and You too! And Sui as well!
Vyrn: Wait, you mean that lute girl too?
Malinda: Gyoo?
Vania: You comes over once in a while to play with me, but I never get to see Sui...
Vyrn: Isn't that 'cause she's always traveling? And even if she weren't, she's... Y'know...
Lyria: I think it'd be fine, Vyrn! Besides, she's all better now!
Vania: Really?
Vania: She's better now? That's good to hear...
Vania: In that case... Veight! Hurry up and call her over! C'mooon!
Veight: So the burden falls upon my shoulders, huh?
Seeing Veight crack a bitter smile, (Captain) offers to accompany him as he goes to call over Vania's friends.
Vania first met Sui, You, and Kou in Medvecia, their bonds deepening after crafting friendship bracelets together.
Amazuma and Varga she had met while Veight and Kou were out traveling, and the former two now reside in Medvecia.
Vania considers all five to be her dear friends, and she often calls them over to play with her.
All except for one...
Vania: Wow! Nice seeing you, You!
You: Same here! So... how can I help today? You name it, I'll do it!
Vania: I sure will! I need looots of help! But before that... where's Sui?
Sui: U-um... Haha... Sorry, I'm right here...
Vania: Sui! You're all better now! But how come you're hiding behind (Captain)?
Sui: Because... last time we met, I kinda went crazy, and I feel really bad about it...
Sui both is and is not herself. Her circumstances are as complicated as ever, making it difficult to meet Vania.
Sui: Are you sure it's okay to call me a friend? I mean...
Vania: Hm? What are you talking about? Of course you're my friend! Am I... not yours?
Sui: Th-that's not it at all! It's just... Is that really okay? I don't know...
You: Sui...
Vania: Hmph!
Vania hops into (Captain)'s arms, peers over the captain's shoulders, where Sui is still hiding.
Sui: Eek! U-um...
Vania: You're making me angry!
Sui: I'm sor—
Vania: No more apologizing! You didn't do anything wrong! But now you are!
Sui: I am?
Vania: Something happened to you, right? Something bad!
Vania: Hide all you want! I already know!
Sui: Vania...
Vania: You don't have to talk about it! That's fine! But not coming to see me is a no-no!
Vania: We're friends, right? I wanna hear it from you! I mean, we even made bracelets together!
Sui: U-uh... I don't—
Vania: I'm your friend! So are Kou and You! They're your friends too! Everybody here is your friend!
Sui: I'm... your friend too. I wanna be friends with everybody.
You: Quit worrying, Sui! Vania's saying it's okay! And if you still feel bad about it...
You: Just take the time to talk to her later! Nothing bad will happen, I promise!
Sui: Okay...
Sui: Got it... Then I'll switch over to friendly Sui... Friendly Sui here! It's hug time!
Vania: Yaaay! Sui's back! I love hug time!
Kou: Hahaha...
Veight: I'm glad to see you all doing well. Here, I brought the other two.
Varga: Whoa! So many people with pretty tails! They're just like Kou!
Amazuma: So fluffy...
Vania: The fluffy tails are great, right? It's okay to hold them! Go on! They're smooth and puffy!
Sui: They're... smoofy!
Amazuma: They are? I wanna try holding one...
Vania: Then how about this? We can all floof their tails while we watch the fireworks!
Amazuma: Fireworks?
Vania: Have you never seen them before? Well, then... One more thing to look forward to!
Varga: Eheheh, yep!
You: They keep talking without me! But I guess that's okay... I mean, I wanna see the fireworks too!
???: ...
Kou: ...?
Veight: Let's get started with the festival preparations.
Veight: Those who can help with the heavy lifting, come with me. Will you help with the setup too, Varga?
Varga: Leave it to me! It's the least I can do as a blacksmith's son!
Kou: I'll do what I can to help too. Let's do this.
Veight: You, Sui, and Amazuma... You three help guide the people who come here and assist Feldrac where you can.
All Three: Got it!
Vania: I'll help with the food stalls then!
Malinda: Gyoo...
Veight: Okay, Malinda. Your job is to stay with (Captain) and keep an eye on Vania.
Malinda: Gyoo gyoo!
With everybody now getting along, they all set off to work on the respective tasks.
???: ...
Kou and Veight, however, sense a presence from the shadows—somebody was carefully watching the group.
Kou: It's them again... So I wasn't imagining things...
Kou: There are a few of them, Veight. And they've been looking this way for a while now...
Veight: Indeed. They're probably some vampires from nearby.
Veight: We already have the town's approval for this festival. They won't disturb us... I hope.
Kou: As do I. They don't appear to be hostile, but... I wonder why they were staring at us...
Kou: Actually, I recall them making some sort of strange reaction when Vania mentioned fireworks.
Veight: I'll keep that in mind.
In order to protect those dear to them, the two decide to remain vigilant—wary of any potential dangers.

Medvecia Fireworks Festival: Scene 3

The day of the festival has arrived, and Medvecia bustles with both vampires and tourists alike. As the fun comes to an end, however, the gang encounters a problem—the fireworks aren't working. They head over to the launch site to figure out what's going on and meet a group of vampires, firecrackers in hand. At first, the gang suspects that these intruders are there to disturb the festival but instead learn that they were only trying to help dry the firecrackers that went damp. They work together to solve the issue, then watch the beautiful fireworks light up the night sky.

The festival preparations go smoothly, and the day of the event finally arrives.
The island bustles with life. There were, of course, many vampires attending, but countless tourists also lined the streets.
You, Sui, and Amazuma were busy being dragged around from stall to stall by an excited Vania.
You: So many of those squishy things floating in the water...
Vania: It's called water balloon fishing! You use this thingy to scoop up the balloons!
Amazuma: Can you really call this fishing?
You: Hmm... Who knows?
Shopkeeper: Surprised? Using real fish is actually pretty commonplace, but—
Sui: The balloons serve as toys, which are easier to play with and are more popular with children, hence their use instead of fish.
Sui: The balloons are also popular on the business side due to their low cost.
Amazuma: Their cost?
Sui: Oh, I'm so sorry! I shouldn't be talking about prices in front of the shopkeeper...
Shopkeeper: Bwahaha! It's no big deal. Everything's free of charge today anyway! You sure do know your stuff though.
Vania: Heheh, isn't she amazing? Sui knows so much about everything!
Amazuma: Hmmm? Is that so? Hey, tell me more. I don't know anything about this stuff.
Vania: I wanna hear more too! Let's talk while I fish for more balloons!
Sui: Haha, if you're willing to lend an ear, I'd be more than happy to talk!
Vania and Amazuma listen to Sui talk about the origin of balloon fishing, after which the three head to their next destination.
Vania: This is my food stall! I've got lots of cake and soup!
Veight: Malinda?
Malinda: Gyoo... Gyoo gyoo!
Lyria: We all cooked together! Kou and Varga helped too!
Vania: Kou is really good at cutting different ingredients! He helped me a lot!
Vania: Varga was going back and forth tasting stuff with Malinda to make sure everything was good! They both did so much!
Malinda: Gyoo gyoo!
Varga: Yep! Everything tastes delicious! I think I ate too much though... I'm still really full...
Veight: So that's what happened... Oh, but wait... Vania's cooking is—
Vania: Here, try some! Open wide! Ahhh—
Veight: Hrk, wait! I'm not rea—
Veight: This... actually tastes really good!
Vania: Ehehe, of course it does!
While Vania continues to show off her delectable array of dishes, Kou leans over and whispers into Veight's ear.
Kou: Apparently she trained really hard to cook today's food—and that she really wanted you to enjoy her meal.
Veight: I see... I must say... Eating this does bring a tear to my eye...
Vania: Hey! Are you making fun of me? That's not very nice!
Satisfied with her food stall's resounding success, Vania continues to make her way around the festival grounds.
Vania: This way, everybody! It's time to tour my old castle!
Child Tourist: Whoa! This place is huge!
Vania: Feldrac said we're not allowed inside, but since it's a special occasion, we can look at it from here!
Tourist: What a day this is! I'll make sure to remember it forever.
Vania: Wow! Are you two gonna be performing?
Varga: Uh-huh! Feldrac asked us to!
Amazuma: He said he would like it if we sang a hymn in honor of Her Majesty.
Vania: Huh? That's no fair! How come nobody asked me?
Vania: I'm gonna sing with Amazuma too! Veight, you and Varga can play the piano for us!
Veight: You can't make those decisions by yourself... This is Amazuma and Varga's performance.
Amazuma: I'm okay with it. Vania is today's guest of honor, after all.
Vania: Yup! I get to choose since I organized the whole event!
Veight: Very well... I suppose I can't refuse if you put it that way...Hehe.
The rest of the festival zooms by, and the festivities begin to wind down.
Before the celebrations come to a close, however, there is one final attraction to end the night—the fireworks show.
Amazuma: Fireworks, huh? I wonder what they're like... Hey, Sui! Can you tell me something about them?
Sui: It'd be rude of me to spoil this experience for you... Just watch, listen, and feel. I'm sure you'll remember this day for years to come
Vania: I dunno what you're talking about, but... Hehe, you're probably right! Have fun watching the show, everybody!
However, a problem quickly arises.
You: I don't see anything... Is everything all right?
Kou: The fireworks show should've begun by now...
Vania: I'll go check and see what's up!
Veight: Wait a second, Vania! I'll go with you!
The gang heads toward the fireworks launch site. There, they spot a group of vampires.
Kou: Veight... It's the people from before...
Veight: They're the ones who were watching Vania earlier! What are they doing holding the fireworks?
Vyrn: Don't tell me... Are they tryin' to mess with the festival 'cause they don't like it or somethin'?
Vania: Huh?
Vyrn: Hey, you guys! What do ya think you're doin'?
Vampire 3: Oh, no! This isn't what it looks like!
Vania: Hm? What were you doing then?
Vampire 4: You have the wrong idea! Lady Vania, we aren't—
Vania: It's okay... I believe you all.
Vampire 3: We're so sorry, Lady Vania! We shouldn't have done anything without asking first!
Veight: Calm down. What's going on?
Vampire 4: Well, you see... We heard from a peddler that fireworks are sensitive to moisture...
Vyrn: Moisture?
Vampire 3: Since Medvecia gets quite humid, we were worried the firecrackers wouldn't light properly... which would ruin the festival.
Vampire 3: Our hope was that we were wrong, and everything would be just fine, but the moisture had already done its work.
Vampire 4: We were trying to remove the moisture using this drying agent we bought from the peddler... We should've gone to you first...
Vania: So... you guys were just trying to help me?
You: I guess they weren't trying to mess with your show then.
Vampire 3: We would never! This festival was Lady Vania's idea! We wouldn't dare try to ruin something this important!
Vampire 4: We know that she held this festival for Her Majesty... and for us as well...
Vampire 4: I mean, even while you and the other vampires were getting ready for the festival, we—
Vampire 3: Shhhh!
Vampire 4: Oh... Oops...
Veight: Enough with the hiding.
Vampire 4: Y-yes, of course... We were secretly keeping an eye on you all... because we wanted the festival to do well.
Kou: I see... I thought someone was watching us, but I didn't feel any sort of hostility. That explains everything.
Vampire 3: Us? Hostile? No, no, no... We would never get in Lady Vania's way... Nothing like that...
Vania: All of that... for me?
You: But why keep quiet about it until now? If you were worried, you could've just said so.
Vampire 4: I'm sorry... We wanted to help you from behind the scenes.
Vampire 3: We're almost done removing all the moisture though! If you could wait for just one more moment...
Vania: No! Let's do this together! It'll be faster that way!
Vania: But first...
Vampires: Yes?
Vania: Thank you.
Vampire 3: Lady Vania...
Everybody works together, using the drying agent to successfully remove the remaining moisture from the firecrackers.
And at long last—
Amazuma: Wow... They're pretty loud...
Varga: But they're also really, really pretty—much more impressive than my performance!
Sui: Same here... My storytelling doesn't even hold a candle to the beauty of these fireworks...
Countless flowery lights bloom throughout the mist-filled air, dotting the night sky.
The exploding fireworks illuminate the area with countless colors, giving the fog a bewitchingly beautiful glow.
Vampire 1: Incredible. What a breathtaking scene... It almost feels like a mirage of sorts.
Vania: Whoa... This is amazing! You can still see the fireworks through the fog! They really do go well together!
Flowers of all shades brilliantly shine on, etching new memories into the hearts and minds of everybody watching in Medvecia.
Vania: So, so pretty...
Vania: Sniff...
Lyria: Are you okay, Vania?
Vania: Mhmm, I'm fine... I'm just so happy... I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Vania: Mommy... You're watching, right? Are you happy too?
  1. She is, no doubt.

Choose: She is, no doubt.

Vania: Ehehe... Thanks, everybody.
Vania: Veight, Feldrac, and Malinda... Kou, Sui, You, Amazuma, and Varga too!
Vania: Lyria and (Captain) as well! Even the lizard!
Vania: It's all thanks to you—and everyone else in Medvecia! Thank you...
Veight: Hm, not quite...
Vania: Huh?
Veight: It's you, Vania. You're the reason why everybody has changed.
  1. He's right. It's all you, Vania.

Choose: He's right. It's all you, Vania.

Vania: Sniff... You think so? You think I did something good for everybody?
Veight: I do. And everyone else would agree. This really is all thanks to you, Vania.
Vania: Ehehe... Heh-heh! Then I guess you should all be thanking me for my hard work! C'mon now... Praise me!
Having returned to her usual cheery self, Vania smiles—her grin as cute and contagious as ever.
One last firework went off that night, right by (Captain)'s side. This blooming beauty would serve as proof of a memory everlasting.
