Golonzo's Representative

As the Grandcypher is getting maintenanced at Golonzo, some craftsmen approach Rackam and Eugen, asking the two to attend a winter party in their place. The party is held by a major trading partner called Natare. Noa agrees to join, and when they arrive at the airship that serves as the venue, they are surprised by its enormous size, the likes of which haven't been seen since the War.

Noa: ...
Shipwright 1: What do you think, Noa?
Noa: The drive shaft's slightly bent... and the engine is having some problems as well.
Noa: Once we do some visual and physical inspections, we can go ahead and change out the parts that've worn out.
Shipwright 1: All right!
Shipwright 1: Hear that? Let's get the job done!
Shipwrights: Yeah!
The shipwrights at Golonzo put their full trust in Noa—the primal beast of shipbuilding—and begin servicing the Grandcypher.
Rackam and Eugen gaze proudly at the battle scars that decorate the body of their ship.
Rackam: Look at those scratches along the port, and the places we already repaired on the stern... They all bring back memories.
Eugen: Sure do. They're medals we've earned from overcomin' all sorts of trouble.
Eugen: I've got half a mind to drink to every single one o' these scratches.
Rackam: You're already doing that, aren'tcha? I can smell it in your breath.
Eugen: Gahaha! Whoops, my bad.
Eugen: Ahh, well, y'know... been a while since we came to Golonzo, so an old friend of mine dragged me out for a drink or two.
Rackam: Hey, you can do whatever you want. Leave everything here to Noa and me—you go take a good, long break.
Eugen: Gahaha! Appreciate that, Rackam! I might smell like I've had a few drinks already, but the truth is, I could use a whole lot more.
Rackam: Tell me that when you can walk in a straight line... Good grief.
Shipwright 2: Hey, we've got something we wanna ask y'all.
Eugen: Ask away! Happy to help with anythin'. Gotta help each other out in times of need, eh?
Shipwright 2: Knew we could count on ya, Eugen!
Eugen: Heh, you've got nothin' to worry about with us here!
Rackam: Hold your horses, you drunk old man.
Rackam: Careful not to go making promises you can't keep, you hear? Won't be pretty.
Eugen: Come on, don't be such a stick in the mud.
Rackam: Anyway... you're all looking mighty desperate. Whatever's up can't be good.
The Golonzo shipwrights give a collective sigh before holding out an ore covered in various colored paints.
Rackam: And... what is this?
Shipwright 2: I asked the same thing at first. But then I realized this wasn't a regular piece of rock.
Shipwright 2: See here? If you look closely... there're letters carved into it.
Rackam: Let me take a look...
"We cordially invite you... this winter..."
Rackam: Wha? You're telling me this stone's an invitation to a winter party?
Eugen: Incredible... I've never heard of anythin' like that before.
Shipwright 2: Me neither. We found out the ore was actually some sort of invitation three days after we received it.
Rackam: So who's the sender? Is it from some sort of artisan?
Shipwright 2: I wish it were as simple as that...
Rackam: Aha. The sender's someone you can't exactly refuse, huh?
Rackam scans the stone for the name of the sender before gasping in surprise.
Rackam: Seriously? That's who the invitation's from?
Shipwright 2: Surprising, huh? It's from Natare... the trading company known for being one of Golonzo's largest trade partners.
Rackam: I've heard the head of Natare really takes pride in his own work.
Rackam: But who sends out invitations on rocks? What's the deal here?
Shipwright 2: Actually, that's the previous head of Natare... He suddenly passed away, leaving his blockhead of a son to take care of the business.
Eugen: Well they sure took a complete turn with their management. Not at all what I'd have expected from the old Natare.
Rackam: Seems like there's a dress code for the winter party. As if this wasn't trouble enough.
Shipwright 2: So, we were wondering if you could... Well...
Eugen: Lemme guess. Go to this party in your place?
Rackam: This is an important party for business partners though. Are you sure it's a good idea for us to represent Golonzo?
Shipwright 2: We talked with everyone, and together we agreed that it'd be best if you could attend in our place. We trust you.
Shipwright 2: Besides, none of us have any formal wear. We don't know a single thing about these kinda occasions, so a party's a no-go!
Seeing how reluctant the shipwrights are to attend the party themselves, Rackam looks up at the sky and thinks for a while.
Rackam: I mean... I guess we're pretty used to them now, but... I don't exactly like formal events either.
Rackam: You don't either, Eugen, do—
Rackam: Huh? Where'd he go? He was right here with me...
Eugen's Voice: Hey, Rackam! What's there to think about?
Rackam: Wha...
Eugen: These guys are always lookin' after us. About time we gave 'em a hand too!
Rackam & Company: Pfft... Hahaha!
Eugen: What's so funny here!
Rackam: Can't say you're looking like the most trustworthy tradesman, Eugen.
Rackam: If we're going to do this, we need to look the part and do this right.
Eugen: What about this isn't "lookin' the part" to ya?
Noa's Voice: Once we're finished with the inspection of the ship's exterior, let's delegate the tasks.
Shipwright's Voice: Got it!
The voices coming from the Grandcypher give Rackam an idea.
Rackam: Haha, I almost forgot—we've got someone who's perfectly suited for the part.
The shipwrights hold their breaths after telling Noa of their situation and wait for the primal beast's answer. Noa smiles at them.
Noa: If you don't mind, I'd be glad to.
Shipwright 2: Really? Ahh, I'm so glad! You're a lifesaver!
Noa: I had no idea you were so troubled about this. You should have told me sooner.
Noa: Everyone at Golonzo has done so much for me. I'd be willing to do anything to return the favor.
Shipwright 2: I didn't know you thought so highly of us... Thank you, Noa!
Rackam: Seeing how they carved their invitation on a rock, I'm not sure what to expect at this winter party.
Rackam: But I know you can do anything, Noa. We're counting on you!
Noa: What are you talking about, Rackam? It'll be hard to handle things alone if anything happens, so you're coming with me.
Rackam: Huh? Er, I'm not really fit for—
Eugen: Oh, quit blubberin' and just do as you're told. Wouldn't be nice to push everything onto Noa, so let's go keep him company.
The night of the party arrives. Snow drifts quietly down from the winter sky.
Dressed in formal wear, Noa, Rackam, and Eugen arrive at the port where they were instructed to wait.
Eugen: Whew... It's cold out here. Are we sure we're at the right place?
Rackam: Yeah, it was written on that weird rock. Said to wait at the dock here for an airship to come pick us up.
Eugen: I don't see anything though... Are they runnin' late?
Noa: Haha. Actually, they're already here.
Eugen: They are? Where?
Noa: Right above us.
Rackam and Eugen tilt their heads back to look up at the bottom of an enormous airship floating above their heads.
Rackam: What in the... This airship's enormous!
Eugen: The size is one thing, but what's with the exterior of the ship?
Eugen: An old man like me can't keep up with this kind of innovation.
Sure enough, the gigantic airship not only extends far into the distance, but is also decorated all over with unique patterns.
Noa: The originality of the design in addition to the mandatory dress code certainly has me intrigued.
Rackam: Hahaha, you can say that again!
Eugen: I've never seen any ship this big before, Noa... Have you?
Noa: During the War... there was a time when the Astrals also built large ships like this one.
Noa: But it was difficult to create enough driving force to move airships as big as this, so production was stopped soon after it started.
Noa: That's why I'm surprised this airship is able to sustain itself and continue flying like this.
Although the design of the vessel above them is different from those of the past...
Noa can't help but feel his excitement building as he relishes in this chance encounter with the colossal ship.
