Everyone's Auguste

Meg tries to assist with the reconstruction of Auguste, which was damaged in a recent sumo incident. However, she is quickly dismayed at being unaccustomed to this sort of work. Mari has a suggestion.

From sharks to zombies to so much more, Auguste too often finds itself beset by some sort of monster attack.
The climax of a grudge match between the merfolk king and the heir to an ancient martial art—known as sumo—became so heated it briefly evaporated the entirety of Auguste's great waters.
Though it did not take long for the seas to refill, shocks from the event still resulted in widespread damage throughout the isles.
Coming as another blow to a land already so battered, the catastrophe stirred significant worry about Auguste's future.
Meg: Mari!
Meg, worried about Mari, decides to pay a visit. The crew accompanies her.
Lyria: Meg...
Vyrn: I understand the feeling... Just when things had calmed down in Auguste too...
Lyria: Ursula seems worried as well.
Ursula: Sharrrk! Sharrrk!
With this latest incident, the residents of Auguste may have finally lost all hope.
Or so Meg and (Captain) feared.
Mari: Meg! You came to see me!
Meg: Mari, tell me you're okay! You're not hurt, are you?
Mari: Hurt? What do you mean?
Vyrn: C'mon now... Did Auguste not just get wrecked by another one of those absurd disasters?
Mari: Oh, those happen all the time! We're doing just fine, look.
The locals have gathered in a part of town to clear the streets of debris and assist with reconstruction.
Meg: Wow... They're all staying strong...
Mari: Everything's normal in Auguste.
Vyrn: (Pretty weird normal, if you ask me...)
As the Auguste Tourism Association Chairperson, Mari's positive outlook has proven to be infectious, instilling the locals with hope for the future.
Lyria: It's great to know everyone's okay! Right, Meg?
Meg: Yeah... This is really impressive!
Mari: Heh, did you think we'd be down in the dumps? There's no time for that.
Mari: Wreckage cleanup, damage assessment, devising new construction plans, getting the word out to other islands... There's too much to do to be wallowing in self-pity.
Vyrn: The Tourism Association sure is lucky to have ya as its chairperson!
Meg: For sure! Mari, let me help too!
Mari: Huh? Is that what you want?
Association Member: Aah, what a boon it would be to have the hero of Auguste assisting us!
Meg: Margaret Bluemarine, reporting for duty! Just say the word!
Association Member: A pleasure to have you! At least, assuming no objections from our Chairperson?
Mari: Hmm, well...
Mari: (I'd like to just keep Meg by my side, not out and about... But I want to respect her wishes too...)
Mari: Okay! Welcome aboard!
  1. We'll help out too!
  2. We'll watch from here.

Choose: We'll help out too!

Lyria: Yeah! We want to do what we can for Auguste too!
Meg: Perfect. Let's do this together then!

Choose: We'll watch from here.

Vyrn: Yep. We'll be rootin' for ya, Meg.
Meg: Okay! I'll give it my best!
Lyria: Whaaat? No, (Captain)! We should help too!
Vyrn: Heheh, just kidding. Of course we're gonna join in.

Mari: Oh, thanks! You people aren't so bad.
Vyrn: What impression of us did you have...
Meg and company start out by joining wreckage cleanup efforts.
Meg: So we just need to pick up all this debris?
Association Member: Yup! Just load it all onto the cart over there!
Meg: Got it!
Meg picks up a massive load of debris and makes for the cart.
Association Member: Whoa... Hey, you don't have to strain yourself there...
Meg: I'll... be fine... Gotta be useful to everyone!
Vyrn: I hear ya, but doin' that much at once is just gonna—
Meg: There!
Meg drops her wreckage onto the cart, causing it to be crushed under the weight of the overbearing load.
Meg: Why!
Vyrn: Yeah, "why" did you think anything else would happen...
The next attempt is roof repair.
Meg: So I just have to hammer in all these nails?
Association Member: Yes, please.
Meg: Heeere I—
Association Member: Wait, there's no need to wind up like that! The task can be accomplished just as easily with light taps of the hammer.
Meg: Ah, I suppose you're right... Light taps it is...
Meg: Tap—
Meg's voice is drowned out by the crack of splintering wood, as both hammer and nail are driven deep into the beam.
Association Member: ...
Vyrn: This is a whole 'nother level of clumsy...
Meg: Sigh... I'm not helping at all, am I... Even after turning eighteen, I'm just as useless...
Lyria: Oh, don't feel bad... Besides, everyone was saying they didn't mind.
Meg clutches her knees on the beach as dusk sets in. Though the crew offers her words of encouragement, she remains dispirited.
Vyrn: Why not stick to what you're already good at? That way, you won't have to worry about messin' up.
Meg: What I'm good at?
...
What am I good at?
Vyrn: Uh. You'd know yourself best, right?
Meg: ...
Vyrn: ...
Meg: ...
Vyrn: ...
Meg: ...?
Vyrn: Okay, that was my bad. Let's move on.
Meg: What if... What if I've been so focused on protecting Auguste that I never learned anything useful?
Vyrn: C'mon now, I wouldn't put it that way...
Lyria: There's plenty of amazing things about you!
(Captain) is quick to nod in agreement.
  1. You know Auguste inside out.
  2. You're familiar with remote education.

Choose: You know Auguste inside out.

Meg: Not really... I can tell you what the magazines say about Auguste, but I'm definitely no local.

Choose: You're familiar with remote education.

Meg: I don't know about that... I just learned some basic fighting skills through a correspondence course.

Lyria: ...
Meg: I'm a lost cause after all...
Vyrn: All right, I give up...
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Lyria: Ah, Ursula! Where were you this whole time?
Vyrn: You went to take a look at the beach? Nothin' like home sweet home, huh.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Vyrn: Meg could really use some encouragement. She kinda lost heart while you were out.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Ursula approaches Meg...
Meg: Mm... I'm hopeless...
Only to immediately back up again.
Ursula: Sharrrk...
Vyrn: Even you, huh...
As the crew watches a dejected Meg stare out into the sea, a voice calls out from behind.
Mari: Yep, knew you guys would be here.
Lyria: Ah! Mari!
Mari: I heard what happened. Knowing Meg, I figured she was probably sulking at the beach.
Vyrn: She's been like that for a while now.
Mari: My poor Meg... I want to take you into my arms and comfort you right this second... I want to stroke your hair in bed with all my love...
Mari: I want to make your favorite dishes without ever leaving your side, and then...
Vyrn: How are you gonna cook from bed... What's your endgame with her anyway?
Mari: To put it lightly, I want to be buried with Meg.
Vyrn: That's light?
Mari: Meg! What's gotten you down?
Meg: Mari... I don't think I can help Auguste after all...
Mari: Well, you're wrong. Have you forgotten why the locals consider you a hero?
Mari: There's still a lot for you to lend a hand with, so cheer up.
Meg: Really? You think I can still help?
Mari: Absolutely.
Meg: If you think so...
Meg: Then count me in! I can't be feeling sorry for myself when Auguste needs me!
Vyrn: Well, whaddya know. Meg's feelin' better already.
Lyria: Haha... I'm happy to see it. Mari really is the one for Meg, isn't she?
Meg grabs Mari's hand and stands proud.
Meg: I've got this!
Mari: Go, go, Meg!
It appears everyone's beloved Auguste still has a role for Meg.
