Origins of God

Lucio ponders the data he obtained, which included a view of the Sky Realm from far above and a voice conveying a fervent attachment to the world. Combining this with the traces of his master that he senses from the spear, Lucio arrives at a hypothesis around the Omnipotent's true identity and appears in (Captain)'s dream in the form of Helel ben Sahar to share it.

Lucio: ...
Lucio sits alone in his room, immersed in thought.
Before him lies the mysterious spear he retrieved from the Omnipotent's final battleground.
Lucio: (It happened when I touched this artifact. I was enveloped in light, and those images and voices came flowing into me.)
Lucio: Infinite stars... An endless pitch-black void...
Lucio: A cerulean globe... Presumably a comprehensive view of this world...
Lucio: So the perspective was from beyond our realm... My master's perhaps?
Lucio: Then how am I to interpret that voice?
???: Blue skies...
Horizon... beautiful...
???: Someday...
Home... to us...
???: Without fail...
That world...
Lucio: (I only caught snippets, but that definitely wasn't my master speaking.)
Lucio: (Dismissing it as a hallucination would be unwise. I felt a clear intent behind those words.)
Lucio: (An unknown entity... Someone holding powerful feelings for this world.)
Lucio: (One might call it an obsession—a decidedly mortal emotion.)
Lucio: (The aura was quite different from my master's. At least to the extent of my knowledge.)
Lucio: (Should I assume there's no connection, then? No...)
Lucio: (The faint traces I sense from this relic... They undeniably belong to my master.)
Lucio: (Considering where it was found, it can hardly be sheer coincidence.)
Lucio: The true nature of this artifact...
Lucio: ...
Lucio: Could it be? No, perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions.
Lucio: But it does stand to reason. If my assumption is correct, then the entity I know as my master...
Lucio: This conclusion... is far too profound for me to grapple with alone.
One night, (Captain) has a strange dream.
Helel ben Sahar: It has been some time since I last appeared before you in this form.
  1. This brings back memories.
  2. Who might you be?

Choose: This brings back memories.

Helel ben Sahar: I generally refrain from revealing myself in the presence of mortals. You are a special case.

Choose: Who might you be?

Helel ben Sahar: Hahaha... That's quite an entertaining act.
Helel ben Sahar: But you're oddly calm for this to be our first encounter. A touch of fluster would make your performance more believable.

Helel ben Sahar: Let me begin by apologizing for this sudden visit.
Helel ben Sahar: Ah, there's no need to be on the defensive. I know I tested your strength once before, but that was the last time.
Helel ben Sahar: There is something I desperately need to tell you, so I took the liberty of intruding into your dream.
Helel ben Sahar: Ideally, I would have preferred to speak in person without resorting to such measures...
Helel ben Sahar: But what I am about to discuss is something that I hesitate to share with Master Vyrn.
Helel ben Sahar: The Omnipotent... My master...
Helel ben Sahar: Will you lend your ear to my theory regarding his true identity?

Origins of God: Scene 2

Lucio reveals that he himself had wondered why god chose this particular realm for his creation, and that the information from the spear led him to a single conclusion. Proposing that the spear is a memory storage device and possibly a portion of god's shattered core, Lucio prepares to discuss his theory as to the owner of the memories contained within.

Helel ben Sahar: Was that too sudden? My apologies. Though I may appear calm, deep down I am struggling to retain my composure.
Helel ben Sahar: Before delving into the main topic, we should organize our thoughts—for both our benefits.
Helel ben Sahar: Firstly, what do you know about god aside from the creation myth?
(Captain) sheepishly confesses to knowing very little, but Sahar simply responds with a kind smile.
Helel ben Sahar: Not to worry. For many people, god is nothing more than fantasy. Just believing in his existence is enough.
Helel ben Sahar: God himself is an enigma. Or rather, that is how it should be.
Helel ben Sahar: What I am about to disclose will essentially strip away that mystery. It would be dishonest for me to say I hold no reservations.
Helel ben Sahar: But having come to this conclusion, I implore you to at least hear what I have to say.
  1. Why me?

Choose: Why me?

Helel ben Sahar: It relates to that incident.
(Captain): ...
Sandalphon: So this is the Omnipotent.
Lucio: The one and only!
Shalem: This takes me back.
Helel ben Sahar: You harnessed the power of god to fend off the Phoenix. All while unaware of its true nature.
Helel ben Sahar: The power that birthed the Sky Realm, possessing the capacity to slay even the immortal... It truly transcends mortal understanding.
Helel ben Sahar: Should you be so inclined, destroying the world wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.
Helel ben Sahar: You were able to masterfully wield that power in order to save the world from crisis...
Helel ben Sahar: However, had it spiraled out of control, you yourself could have become a threat to these skies—or even a source of ruin.
Helel ben Sahar: Of course, these are all hypothetical scenarios. But they are not guaranteed to stay that way.
Helel ben Sahar: Therefore, you must be aware of the nature and origin of this divine power.
Helel ben Sahar: To ensure that you do not unwittingly put the world at risk. But above all, for your own sake.
Feeling the weight of Sahar's heartfelt words, (Captain) nods in silence with a serious expression.
Helel ben Sahar: Forgive me for the lengthy preamble.
Helel ben Sahar: Over these many millennia... I have harbored certain doubts.
Helel ben Sahar: This world was once shrouded in death. Its surface had been shattered by an ancient battle, leaving it doomed to ruin.
Helel ben Sahar: Many ages later, my master descended upon this realm and began the task of creation.
Helel ben Sahar: A new world was born, teeming with an abundance of life. Thus was the dawn of the Sky Realm.
Helel ben Sahar: My master's creation was completed—at least in all ordinary respects.
Helel ben Sahar: However, a disturbing factor prevented the world from attaining perfection—one which even my master's power could not completely eliminate.
Helel ben Sahar: Yes—the Crimson Horizon and its Otherworldly inhabitants.
Helel ben Sahar: Their aim is to invade the Sky Realm. Even now, they continue to exist as a threat.
Helel ben Sahar: Then... does that mean the Crimson Horizon and Otherworlders were unexpected byproducts of the world's genesis?
Helel ben Sahar: Otherwise, why did my master create the Sky Realm to include such destabilizing elements?
Helel ben Sahar: Why did he come to this dying world and begin forming it anew?
Helel ben Sahar: Were there no other realms suitable for creation?
Helel ben Sahar: Was there a reason why it had to be this one?
Helel ben Sahar: For so many years, I had been unable to find the answers to these burgeoning questions.
Helel ben Sahar: But just recently, I happened upon a certain artifact in the land where my master made his final stand.
Helel ben Sahar: And I heard an unfamiliar voice... from somewhere beyond this realm.
Helel ben Sahar: These points connected to form a line, leading me to a single deduction.
Helel ben Sahar: There exists an entity who—knowing only the blueness of this world—came to desire and pursue it.
Helel ben Sahar: That artifact is likely a type of memory device. The moment I made contact with it, memories flooded out, sending scenes and voices rushing through my mind.
Helel ben Sahar: So what does its existence imply? What might those stored memories constitute?
Helel ben Sahar: Could that relic not be something akin to a core that forms my master's soul?
Helel ben Sahar: When my master tore himself in twain, his core, too, was left shattered and abandoned.
Helel ben Sahar: As that artifact is but a piece of the core, the memories were fragmented as well.
Helel ben Sahar: Consider it this way, and all the pieces seem to fall into place. Or rather, they already have.
Helel ben Sahar: What is your impression of my explanation thus far?
  1. I think you're right.
  2. It's hard to say...

Choose: I think you're right.

Helel ben Sahar: Your agreement is reassuring. It feels as though some of the weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Choose: It's hard to say...

Helel ben Sahar: A most natural response. I appreciate your willingness in accompanying me on this thought exercise, regardless.
Helel ben Sahar: However, I ask that you continue to bear with me. It won't be much longer.

Helel ben Sahar: With this, we've concluded the groundwork for our discussion.
Sahar shuts his eyes briefly before opening them once more with a look of determination.
Helel ben Sahar: There is but one final matter to address. Please understand that the conversation from here on will be based entirely on speculation.
Helel ben Sahar: It pertains to the stored memories... and who they might belong to.

Origins of God: Scene 3

Lucio affirms (Captain)'s idea regarding entities with a possible connection to the Omnipotent, and they resolve to remain vigilant against this potential threat in order to protect the Sky Realm. After their conversation, Lucio struggles with his doubts about god, but a few candid words from Sandalphon help to provide some relief.

Helel ben Sahar: Whoever possessed those memories had the technology to create a device in which to store them.
Helel ben Sahar: That implies they belonged to a highly advanced civilization. One that existed even prior to the time of creation.
Helel ben Sahar: It may seem absurd to say that there was something before the beginning of the world.
Helel ben Sahar: But you ought to have some inkling as to who I am referring to...
  1. Skydwellers.
  2. Astrals.
  3. Moondwellers.

Choose: Skydwellers.

Helel ben Sahar: Skydwellers are descended from the ancients, who were created by my master. I encourage you to think it over again.
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: Astrals.

Helel ben Sahar: Astrals were created by the Astral god, who is one half of my master. I encourage you to think it over again.

Choose: Moondwellers.

Helel ben Sahar: At last, we have arrived at the answer.
Helel ben Sahar: Their origins trace back 20,000 years. Having faced them directly, I presume you encountered this fact at some point.
Helel ben Sahar: As for the deduction I have drawn... you've already figured it out, have you not?
Helel ben Sahar: The Moondwellers were involved in the inception of the Omnipotent. That is my conclusion.
Helel ben Sahar: As I mentioned previously, this inference is purely speculative.
Helel ben Sahar: Being my master's servant, it is blasphemous for me to even entertain such notions. Were this to reach Shalem's ears, I would be severely reprimanded.
Helel ben Sahar: I could have simply feigned ignorance. Yet, I found myself unable to dismiss these many questions.
For a brief moment, Sahar's serene expression distorts slightly, as though he is chastising himself.
Helel ben Sahar: I have great affection for the current Sky Realm. Do you remember what I once said? That I would use my powers for the good of the skies?
Helel ben Sahar: When the sky and Astral gods unite and my master regains his original form, the world may very well be reconstructed according to the laws of his providence.
Helel ben Sahar: Such an outcome does not align with my current desires. And I can only assume that you skydwellers feel similarly.
Helel ben Sahar: Does that unknown being's will reflect the consensus of all Moondwellers? Has it been conveyed to the current generation? Is evil lurking at the root of those intentions?
Helel ben Sahar: Since we cannot discern their motive at present, we must maintain a watchful eye on the situation going forward.
Helel ben Sahar: Undoubtedly, you share this same desire to protect the skies. I urge you to keep it close to your heart.
  1. We'll protect them together.

Choose: We'll protect them together.

Helel ben Sahar: Those are encouraging words. Yes—without fail.
Helel ben Sahar: I'm pleased I was able to ascertain your resolve. This is all I wished to convey. Dawn is fast approaching...
Suddenly, Sahar's smile fades, and he levels a stern gaze at (Captain).
Helel ben Sahar: Ah, allow me to clarify one last thing. I did not wish to deny my master.
Helel ben Sahar: To me, he is an existence like no other. I have every reason to be grateful to him.
Helel ben Sahar: Regardless of any hidden motives, my master created these beautiful skies. That is an unshakeable truth...
Helel ben Sahar: My apologies. That sounded like an excuse. Please disregard it.
Helel ben Sahar: Until next time...
Lucio: ...
After sharing his theory with (Captain), Lucio gazes quietly at the sky.
Sandalphon: Hey, you.
Lucio: My, how unusual for you to initiate a conversation with me, Sandy.
Sandalphon: I only did so because of your sullen look. Don't make such an expression with Lucifer's face.
Lucio: Me? Sullen?
Lucio: ...
Lucio: My entire existence... may be irreverent.
Sandalphon: So you finally realized it.
Lucio: I was not a righteous being in the eyes of my master. Though I have no means of confirming that now.
Sandalphon: What are you blathering about? It's a rare sight to see you genuinely troubled about something.
Lucio: Oh? Are you showing concern for me?
Lucio: Hahaha... Yes, I am certainly troubled! Would you be inclined to lend me an ear?
Sandalphon: Absolutely not.
Lucio: Oh, how cold. But that's just like you.
Lucio: Tell me... If these skies are ever plunged into crisis again, will you lend your assistance?
Sandalphon: Where did that come from? There's no coherence to this conversation.
Sandalphon: I'm not sure what you're alluding to, but I have already committed to protect these skies. I hardly need your convincing.
Lucio: I see. Hahaha...
Sandalphon: Why are you laughing?
Lucio: People laugh when they're happy, you know.
Sandalphon: That doesn't answer my question! Why must you always be this way!
However much Sandalphon presses him, Lucio's smile shows no signs of fading, as though he has broken free of an invisible shackle.
Their lively voices continue to resound across the deck for some time after.
