Home Sweet Moon - Processing... Overclocked - Chapter 3: Extinguishing the Blue - Episode 3

Ilsa is forced to make the choice of sacrificing Vaseraga to save her men and all skydwellers. However, she does the unexpected—Ilsa releases Nybeth and separates Vaseraga from Dex by placating Grynoth, then fires Yama at the moon warrior. He continues toward the base even as his body disintegrates, but Vaseraga and Eustace, having arrived to help, stop him before he can do any damage.

Vaseraga: Ilsa, use that weapon to finish him off.
Dex: Urgh!
Ilsa's Voice: Do you have any idea what you're saying!
Gwynne: If we use it now, Vaseraga would get caught in the cross fire!
Ilsa: You may be a stupid chicken, but I'm not letting you take the coward's way out!
Vaseraga: He's too dangerous. We have to stop him no matter the cost!
Vaseraga: It's fine. Even if you use up Yama here, I'm sure the others can handle Diaspora.
Ilsa: We are not having this discussion! You better shut up before I shut you up!
Vaseraga: Look, I know I'm asking you to do a difficult thing...
Vaseraga: But there's no room for hesitation, Ilsa. Think of all your subordinates, and their friends and families.
Vaseraga: The life of every skydweller is at stake.
Ilsa: Are you telling me to weigh your life against everyone else's?
Lester: If I perform well on this mission, I might finally be able to become a weapon contractor.
Lester: ...
Eustace: If you steel yourself in the face of a worst-case scenario, you'll be able to react in a composed manner.
Grace: Even if the loss of a few will save the many?
Ilsa: Jake, Sullivan, Lisa, Egan...
Ilsa: Effresau, Zashrega, Kasmina, Marco, Rui, Elena, Diaz...
Ilsa: I...
Dex: Ah, so this is the power of evolution on a seal weapon... But as intriguing as it is...
With a deft movement of his hand, Dex thrusts an ampoule into his body.
Dex: Raaah!
Vaseraga: His power's surging all of a sudden!
Dex: Bwahahaha! I win, fossil warrior!
With Vaseraga and Grynoth still stuck to him, the powered-up Dex continues making his way toward the base, one agonizingly slow step at a time.
Vaseraga: Ngh... Ilsa! What's taking so long! Do it already!
Ilsa: I don't measure lives by the numbers.
Ilsa: This whole battle started because we wanted to save Cassius and Isaac.
Ilsa: And I'm not about to sacrifice you for that!
As Ilsa draws Nybeth from its holster, Gwynne also readies herself for battle.
Gwynne: You're going to join the fray? Then count me in!
Ilsa: You get Yama ready. Fire it on my command.
Gwynne: Huh?
Ilsa: There's no time to explain! Just get the timing right and don't miss!
Ilsa: Everyone else, get your asses into gear and back us up!
Society Soldiers: Yes ma'am!
Gwynne: Commander Ilsa?
Ilsa: Phew...
Ilsa: I'm not gonna let a single person die... I know it's a tall order, but that's what I fight for.
Ilsa: Gun of Arbitration, Nybeth!
Ilsa: Show your power and deliver judgment to the flames of war!
Vaseraga: Ngh!
Grynoth loses its grip over Dex, while Vaseraga falls to the ground.
Dex: What is this!
Dex should be freed from Grynoth's grasp, yet he finds himself frozen in place for a scant second.
Ilsa: Now, soldier!
Gwynne: Affirmative!
Dex: Ngh!
Dex: What!
Watching his body fall apart, his lips curve into a grin.
Dex: Oh, you're a definitely a threat! All the more reason to crush you!
Dex: Hrgh!
He jams another ampoule into his body and begins charging toward the base.
Dex: Hahahahah!
Gwynne: No way! How's he still able to move!
Ilsa: Fire at will!
Ilsa: His body continues to fall apart. He's just delaying the inevitable!
Ilsa: Don't let up! We'll reduce him to dust yet!
Dex: Tut-tut!
Gwynne: Ah!
Dex: Out of the way!
Gwynne: Eek!
Ilsa: Gwynne!
Dex: You're in charge here? Seal weapon Nybeth... That was not an unpleasant sensation.
Having knocked aside Gwynn, Dex now sets his sights on Ilsa.
Ilsa: Rgh!
Vaseraga: Oh no you... don't!
Vaseraga: Nnngh!
Dex: Heh. Able to move already?
Vaseraga: Took the words right out of my mouth.
Dex: You sure you want to hang on to me? No matter how tough you are, you can't stop the molecular collapse of your body.
Vaseraga: That goes for you too. The medicine might keep you going a while longer, but it won't last forever.
Dex's bodily breakdown spreads to Vaseraga at the point of contact.
Gwynne: Wh-why is it spreading to Vaseraga too...
Not just Vaseraga's armor, but also his body is visibly crumbling little by little.
Ilsa: Vaseraga!
Vaseraga: Stop, Ilsa! Don't get any closer!
Vaseraga: I'm not letting go until the very end!
Ilsa: But then you'll—
???: Ilsa, stand back.
Ilsa: ...!
Eustace: I've got this.
Ilsa: Eustace! What are you doing here?
Eustace: I'll explain later. Stopping him comes first.
Vaseraga: Eus... tace!
Eustace: Hang in there, Vaseraga.
Eustace: Flamek!
The thin, chain-like threads of lightning shot out from Flamek coil around Dex and Vaseraga.
Dex: Urgh!
Vaseraga: Guh!
Dex: Agh...
Eustace: Phew...
Ilsa: Get Armored Chicken away from him! And hands off the moon brute!
Society Soldier 1: Yes ma'am!
Vaseraga: Urg...
Society Soldier 1: Stay with us, Vaseraga!
Vaseraga: I'm... fine...
Society Soldier 2: You're not... deteriorating anymore...
Ilsa: What's happening... Explain, Eustace.
Eustace: I don't know the specifics either, but it seems like electricity quells the effects of that weapon.
Ilsa: That's why Flamek was key, huh...
Ilsa: In any case, you saved us.
Vaseraga: What of the moon warrior... Dex?
Society Soldier 1: Don't move, Vaseraga! You're too badly hurt!
Dex: ...
Dex: Groaaargh!
Eustace: !
All except the immobile Vaseraga brace themselves, shocked to see Dex get back up like an angry bull.
Ilsa: Keep your distance, everyone!
Dex: ...
Fortunately a resolution is quickly reached.
Gwynne: He's falling apart...
As his body visibly crumbles, Dex looks down proudly at Vaseraga.
Dex: Fossil... No, sky warrior, that was a splendid battle. My adrenaline's spent...
Dex: Or should I say... neutralized? Doesn't matter either way...
Society Soldier 2: He's... gone?
Ilsa: I'm glad we're saved, but I don't understand why his body is the only one that continued to deteriorate.
Vaseraga: I'm not sure either, but I wonder if it has something to do with the medicine he kept injecting into himself.
Vaseraga: Could be some adverse side effect...
Ilsa: That's enough talking, Armored Chicken. You seriously look like an exploded can of meat and need to recover.
Vaseraga: Hyperbole much? The worst I feel is the pins and needles Flamek gave me.
Vaseraga: And that's even with Mahira's insulators.
Eustace: Like I said, hang in there.
Vaseraga: Heh, you never did go easy on us. Good thing my body's built to take some punishment.
Eustace: I know.
Curving his lips slightly upward, Eustace returns Flamek to its holster.
Ilsa: Eustace, what's the situation with Diaspora?
Eustace: We still have some time.
Eustace: I left the others there to deal with things, but I should get back soon.
Ilsa: Go then. We'll be fine here.
Eustace: How's Yama looking?
Gwynne: Not very good... It's out of energy.
Eustace: I see.
Ilsa: Soldier, it's about time you rested up and got some treatment yourself.
Gwynne: Okay...
Ilsa: We're counting on you, Eustace.
Ilsa: As we initially discussed, everything's riding on you... and the others.
Eustace: Understood.
Eustace: I'll handle it.
