Home Sweet Moon - Processing... Overclocked - Chapter 2: Point of No Return - Episode 4

Eustace shows the weapon from Heisenberg to the others at the base and they decide to keep it as insurance. (Captain) and company suggest tossing it away out of consideration for Eustace's feelings. Though appreciative of the gesture, he ultimately decides to incorporate it into their operation.

Ilsa: Everyone here?
Ilsa: Good. So what is it you wanted to talk about, Eustace?
Eustace: Take a look at this.
Eustace places Heisenberg's weapon on the table, giving everyone a good look.
Beatrix: What's this? A machine?
Mahira: I've never seen anything like it. What does it do?
Eustace: ...
Eustace: It's a weapon that rejects the bonding of matter and can dissolve any substance.
Beatrix: Huh? It's a weapon that, uh, dissolves?
Eustace: Don't ask me about the specifics...
Eustace: I just know that with this, Diaspora can be destroyed.
Zeta: Don't ask? That's not gonna fly, buster!
Zeta: Where did you even find something like this?
Eustace: ...
Ilsa: Answer her, Eustace. There's no way we can trust a mysterious weapon of unknown origin, especially for such an important operation.
Ilsa: You of all people should know that.
Eustace: I... seized it from Heisenberg.
Beatrix: Wait, what! Heisenberg? You met him?
Eustace: I ran into him southeast of the base, about a kilometer away.
Eustace: Realizing this is something that could be used against Diaspora, I seized it for ourselves. The weapon's name is unknown.
Eustace: I've confirmed its usage and efficacy.
Eustace: Activated at its lowest power setting, I saw the weapon turn a piece of automagod plating into dust—permanently, as far as I could tell.
Eustace: But this will be our first time using it in actual battle. I recommend timing it carefully as its energy reserves are limited.
Ilsa: What happened to Heisenberg?
Eustace: I handed him over to Ronan.
Ilsa: I see. Thank you for the update.
Zeta: Ilsa! Is that all you have to say about—
Ilsa: We're done talking about Heisenberg. Debating about him won't get us anywhere, especially not with our looming deadline.
Ilsa: The problem now is what we do with this weapon.
All eyes—except for Eustace's—look at the machine with great curiosity.
Vaseraga: You said the automagod plating turned to dust?
Gwynne: Eustace said it forces rejection of bonds and dissolves things... I'm no expert myself, so this is just a guess, but...
Gwynne: Doesn't that sound a lot like Diaspora?
Ilsa: Hm... If the Foe specifically created this to counteract moon technology, that makes a lot of sense.
Mahira: Yep, they might've turned to Diaspora for ideas.
Mahira: But while Diaspora functions autonomously by way of nanomachines...
Mahira: This device has to be operated manually. It's like a cannon in a way.
Eustace: More like a laser cannon to be precise. It affects the target using light emissions. Shooters should protect their eyes.
Ilsa: Understood. Now we just need the particulars on using the weapon and how to incorporate it into our operation—
Beatrix: Hold on a sec, everyone!
Beatrix inadvertently interrupts Ilsa.
Beatrix: You guys seem to be forgetting that this weapon was made by the Foe!
Beatrix: I bet they did something real dirty to create this!
Beatrix: Just imagine how many people they sacrificed to make this thing a reality!
Eustace: ...
Beatrix: Are we really okay with using this?
Lyria: Beatrix...
Beatrix: Urgh!
Zeta: Bea... I doubt I could ever forgive the likes of Heisenberg or Grace either.
Zeta: Not after all the terrible things I've seen them do.
Zeta: But the anger I feel is probably nothing compared to what you've had to hold in for all these years.
Zeta: So I can't even begin to imagine how bad it is for you.
Beatrix: Zeta, I...
Zeta: But still, I'd like you to calm down.
Zeta: There's a reason Ilsa keeps calling you Hellcat, you know.
Beatrix: Eh?
Zeta: We're not saying we should bet all our chips on this single weapon.
Zeta: Isn't that right, Ilsa?
Ilsa: Well said, Zeta. No one ever said anything about basing our entire operation on this weapon.
Beatrix: Then...
Vaseraga: What we have to do remains unchanged.
Ilsa: That goes without saying. Failure is not an option.
Vyrn: If we mess this up, the sky as we know it will be gone for good.
Ilsa: Exactly. That's why the more insurance we have, the better.
Beatrix: You're right...
Ilsa: It's just a fail-safe of sorts, but we may end up having to use it if push comes to shove.
Ilsa: That sound fair to everyone?
Scanning across the room, Ilsa poses the question to the others.
Vaseraga: I'm for it.
Mahira: Looking at this objectively, that does seem like the best option.
Zeta: We'll do our best to finish things up before needing to rely on that thing, but having it as a plan B certainly doesn't hurt.
  1. Sounds good to me.
  2. Let's kick some automagod butt.

Choose: Sounds good to me.

Beatrix: Yeah... I wouldn't trade the Sky Realm for anything.
Beatrix: So count me in on the operation, Sergeant!

Choose: Let's kick some automagod butt.

Lyria: I'll do my best too!
Beatrix: You can count me in too! There's no way I'm giving up on the Sky Realm!

Ilsa: And that's that. How about it, Eustace?
Eustace: I'll leave the details to you...
Young Eustace: Huff... Huff...
Eustace's Older Sis: There you are, Eustace! Wait up!
Young Eustace: Aw, you found me!
Eustace's Older Sis: Where are you going off to?
Young Eustace: The forest...
Eustace's Older Sis: Again? What about chopping firewood?
Young Eustace: Already did that... for today.
Eustace's Older Sis: Mom has it really tough, so I wish you'd get your act together.
Young Eustace: I know.
Eustace's Friend: Hey, Eustace! Where ya goin', buddy?
Young Eustace: It's a secret!
Eustace's Friend: Meh, that excuse again? Some friend you are!
Young Eustace: Sorry, but I'm in a rush!
Young Eustace: Vitty? Where are you?
Young Eustace: Here, Vitty!
Young Eustace: Strange, where could he have gone...
Young Eustace: He usually notices me first...
Young Eustace: Vitty! Come on o—
Young Eustace: Huh?
Young Eustace: Aah!
Eustace: ...
  1. Eustace.

Choose: Eustace.

Eustace slowly turns around to the voice calling him.
Eustace: (Captain). I see Lyria and Vyrn are with you too as usual.
Lyria: Did something happen to you, Eustace?
Eustace: What do you mean?
Vyrn: Stop tryin' to pull the wool over our eyes! It's clear as day that something's botherin' ya!
Lyria: I think the others realize it too...
Eustace: ...
Lyria: Um... I thought you were a scary person when we first met you.
Lyria: Ah, I should mention that was only at the very, very beginning!
Eustace: It's fine. I know.
Lyria: We've since traveled together, fought together, and have had to split up every now and then...
Lyria: But we've spent more than enough time with you to know what a kind person you are at heart.
Lyria: That's why...
Lyria: We can tell how sad you are right now.
Lyria: The thought of you trying to handle things alone and go off somewhere for good scares us.
Eustace: Relax, I won't be going anywhere. I'll be fighting alongside you guys.
Vyrn: That's not it! It's hard to put into words, but it's like you're in a dark headspace and not really here with us!
Vyrn: That's why we're worried...
Eustace: ...
Surprised to see a rare hint of emotion in Eustace, (Captain) looks him in the eye and asks him for the story behind the machine.
Eustace: It's as I explained...
Lyria: We trust you, Eustace, but we believe there's also something you're not telling us...
Vyrn: Care to fill us in on what happened between you and Heisenberg earlier?
Eustace: ...
Eustace: I can't.
Vyrn: Huh? Why not!
Eustace: You guys are too nice... You'll hesitate if you know the truth.
Eustace: So I can't tell you.
Eustace: I'm sorry.
Lyria: Oh...
  1. It's your choice.
  2. ...

Choose: It's your choice.

Eustace: Hope you'll forgive me for this, (Captain)...
"It just means we'll have to toss out the machine," says the captain with a shake of the head.

Choose: ...

Eustace: ...
The two briefly stare at each other in silence.
Putting on an unusually stern expression, (Captain) remarks that they'll have to toss out the machine.

Eustace: Do you have any idea what you're saying!
Vyrn: Good idea, (Captain).
Lyria: Yeah, let's do that! We just need to find a place where no one will find it!
Eustace: Hold up! You can't do that!
Vyrn: Sure we can. I know the scary drill sergeant said it's nice to have insurance...
Vyrn: But we were gonna fight without the thingamajig anyway.
Lyria: That's right! (Captain)'s really strong! And I can summon primal beasts to help us out!
(Captain) nods in complete agreement.
Eustace: Look at the big picture, (Captain). We need that weapon if we're going to stand a chance.
  1. What matters is how you feel about it.

Choose: What matters is how you feel about it.

Eustace: ...
Lyria: It's not that we don't care what happens to the world. We just trust you more.
Vyrn: You still remember what Ilsa initially said about the operation?
Eustace: That Flamek's release is key...
Lyria: So it's going to be okay, because we believe you can do it.
Vyrn: Just to be clear though, we're not tryin' to push all the responsibility on you!
Vyrn: Like we were sayin' earlier, there's plenty of us to back you up!
Agreeing wholeheartedly, (Captain) flashes a smile.
Eustace: ...
Eustace: I see...
Eustace: I'm still going to use that weapon for the op though.
Eustace: To protect everyone.
Vyrn: You sure about that?
Eustace: Yeah.
The fierce resolve in Eustace's eyes makes a return.
Eustace: Thanks.
Eustace: Maybe one day...
Eustace: When this is all over, I'll consider taking some time to tell you all about my past.
