Searching for Red

Aliza and Farrah race down the beach until they reach a secluded area. They find a little girl, who tells them she lives in the area and is searching for red sea glass to give to her ill mother. Worried for her safety, Aliza and Farrah stay with the girl in case any monsters appear. The three look for sea glass together.

Aliza: Huff, huff...
Farrah: Pant, pant...
Aliza and Farrah are making a mad dash across the sand as the crew watch from afar.
Despite their ragged breaths, the two are neck and neck, determined to win the race.
Aliza: You should be reaching your limit soon. Maybe it's time for you to call it quits!
Farrah: Hah, I've still got plenty of energy in me! Sure you're not the one who's ready to give up?
Aliza: Not a chance!
With the rocks that serve as their goal in sight, Aliza picks up her pace. However...
Farrah: Here's where I turn the tables! See ya!
Aliza: Huh? Hey!
Aliza speeds up as well, closing the distance between her and Farrah.
Farrah: I'm gonna win this!
Aliza: No, I am!
The moment they arrive at the rocks, the two collapse onto the beach, exhausted.
Aliza: Pant, pant... That was close, but I won!
Farrah: Hold on a minute... Pretty sure I was first!
Aliza: Wha! I was faster than you by half a step!
Farrah: Nope! I'm not giving up my victory. Not even to you, Aliza!
Aliza: Well, I'm not giving it up either!
The tension only lasts a moment before the two burst into laughter.
Aliza: Ahaha! You really hate losing, don't you?
Farrah: So do you, and you know it!
Aliza: Yeah, you're right! Why don't we call it a tie?
Farrah: Sounds good! It's a tie!
Aliza: I didn't think I'd get this worked up about the race! It's just so exhilarating!
Farrah: I feel the same! I don't know how to explain it—I just love it!
Farrah: Back when I was a new imperial soldier, I often competed with Yuri too! I mean, not much about that has changed even now.
Aliza: You two always get along so well.
Aliza: (I'm a bit jealous of that, to be honest. Sometimes I wish Stan was a little more competitive...)
Farrah: Hm? What's the matter? Didn't get your fill from the race?
Aliza: Huh? Oh, no! I was just thinking about... stuff... Ahaha.
Aliza: Anyway, I was so into our race that I didn't even realize we'd run so far out.
Farrah: Yeah. We're pretty far from the tourist area—I don't see a single person here.
Aliza: We don't wanna worry (Captain) and the others too much. Let's starting heading back.
Aliza begins to walk back toward where they came from when something catches her eye.
Little Girl: ...
Aliza: Hm? What's that girl doing over there?
Farrah: That's strange... This isn't really a place people would usually want to visit.
Aliza: Maybe she's lost. Why don't we go talk to her?
Aliza: Hey, what's the matter? Did you get separated from your parents?
Little Girl: No. Mommy and Daddy are at home.
The girl points to a house nearby.
Aliza: Oh, so you're from around here! Sorry, we thought you were lost.
Farrah: But it's dangerous being out by yourself like this. You never know where monsters are hiding.
Little Girl: Um, I was looking for red sea glass...
Little Girl: I thought I might find some if I looked in places where there aren't a lot of people...
Aliza: Red sea glass?
Farrah: What's sea glass?
Little Girl: Sea glass is... this. See?
The girl picks up something small from the sand and shows it to Aliza and Farrah.
Little Girl: This is green sea glass. Look, it's so clear and sparkly. Isn't it pretty?
Aliza: Oh, wow! I didn't even notice there were gems like that scattered in the sand.
Little Girl: Usually you can find bits of green and blue here and there...
Little Girl: But red is really, really rare. People say only one out of five thousand pieces is red.
Farrah: That's pretty rare! Bet it'd take a long time to find one...
Aliza: Why are you searching for a red piece? Are you gonna give it to someone?
Little Girl: Yeah... I want to give it to Mommy.
Little Girl: She's sick, so she's always in bed. Daddy stays home and tends to her.
Little Girl: I want to help out too, but there's not much I can do...
Little Girl: So I thought, maybe it'd make Mommy happy if I gave her some red sea glass. She likes red.
Aliza: So that's how it is...
Aliza: Hey, would it be okay if I helped look for some red sea glass too?
Little Girl: Huh? You want to help me look?
Aliza: Yeah. I actually like red a lot too! I kind of want to see what this red sea glass looks like.
Aliza: Maybe we'll find something if we both look. What do you think?
Little Girl: I'd like that... but are you sure?
Aliza: Of course! I want to help. So you don't have to feel bad about it at all!
Farrah: I'll help look too! And we'll be here to help fend off any monsters!
Little Girl: Thanks so much!
Aliza: All right! Don't worry, we'll find that red sea glass in no time!
Farrah: Yeah!

Searching for Red: Scene 2

The little girl tells the two that red sea glass is rare—and sure enough, they fail to find anything until sundown, when Aliza comes across a large piece of red sea glass. Wanting the girl to find it herself, Aliza hatches a plan to hide it again when the girl is suddenly attacked by a monster a little ways away.

The three scour the beach in search of red sea glass.
Aliza and Farrah dig through the sand, determined to find something for the little girl. But not a single red piece is to be found.
Farrah: I know it's rare, but this really is hard to find...
Farrah: All this squinting and crouching's getting me tired, both mentally and physically...
Aliza: I've been finding a lot of brown and green pieces... I wonder why it's so hard to find a red one.
Little Girl: Oh, that's because red bottles are rare in the first place!
Little Girl: Sea glass are bits from abandoned bottles. The waves polish them for a long time before they start looking like this.
Aliza: Ooh, I didn't know that. But now that you mention it, I guess red bottles are rare compared to brown or green ones.
Farrah: You mean tossed-out bottles slowly turn into gems like these? Wow, that's so cool.
Aliza: Polished... over a long time, huh?
Aliza: (Speaking of time, I wonder if there'll be a day... when Mama finally accepts my relationship with Stan.)
Aliza: (If we prove that what we have between us isn't a whim, but a bond we want to share and continue to grow... I'm sure Mama will understand.)
Aliza is lost in thought as she keeps her eyes on the sand, reluctant to give up on finding the sea glass.
But no matter how patiently they search, the red sea glass remains elusive—and before they know it, the sun has already begun to sink into the horizon.
Aliza: We've looked far and wide... Where are you, red sea glass!
Farrah: I thought it'd be easier than this...
Little Girl: It's okay... Thanks for helping me look.
Little Girl: It's too bad we couldn't find it, but I had fun looking through the sand together.
The little girl smiles at them, but Aliza can hear the disappointment in her voice.
Aliza: Wait. Let's search just a while longer! We've come this far, after all. Just a little more!
Little Girl: But...
Aliza: Just that area over there! Let's call it a day after we look through there. What do you say?
Little Girl: ...
All right!
Aliza: Sorry for deciding to do that without consulting you, Farrah. Could you help us look just a bit longer?
Farrah: Not a problem! I don't wanna go back without finding anything either!
The three move to a slightly different area and begin combing through the sand once more.
Aliza: (This is our last chance... I have to find something for the little girl!)
Aliza: (Not this piece... Not this one either... Red, red, red...)
Aliza: Oh!
Aliza: (I found one! I really found one! Yaaay! It's a miracle!)
Aliza: (This sea glass is big too—as big as my palm. She'll be so happy when she sees this!)
Aliza: Farrah! Hey, Farrah! Over here!
Farrah: What's the matter? Don't tell me you already—
Farrah: Whoa, you actually got your hands on one! That's an amazing find, Ali—
Aliza: Shh! Keep quiet!
Farrah: Hm? But why? Aren't you going to tell our little friend you found one?
Aliza: Don't you think she'll be happier if she found it herself, rather than us giving it to her?
Aliza: Let's hide this and have her find it one more time.
Farrah: That's a great idea! Leave it to ya to think of something like that, Aliza.
Aliza: I'll need your help though.
Aliza: Think you could lead the little girl to around where I hide the sea glass?
Farrah: That's easy, leave it to me! I'll go get her then!
Farrah: Huh? Wait, where did she go...
Aliza: Oh yeah... I don't see her. She shouldn't have gone too far...
Little Girl's Voice: Eeek!
Aliza: ...!
That's the little girl's voice!
Farrah: It was from behind those rocks! Let's hurry!
Monster: Grrr!
Little Girl: No! Don't come here!
Farrah: Just as we thought—a monster!
Aliza: Hold on! We'll be right there!

Searching for Red: Scene 3

After successfully defeating the monster, Aliza is sad to find that the red sea glass in her pocket had broken into three pieces during the fight. When the little girl sees it, however, she is overjoyed and hands Aliza and Farrah each a piece of the glass. Grateful for this precious summer memory, Aliza accepts the sea glass and shows it to Stan that night. She leaves Stan's room, smiling as she imagines the two of them spending the next summer together.

Monster: Grrr!
Aliza: Rgh! You've done it now...
Aliza: Haaah!
Farrah: Hraaah!
Monster: Grrr...
After suffering Aliza and Farrah's powerful hits, the monster escapes back into the ocean as fast as it can.
Farrah: Phew... That was a close one.
Aliza: Are you all right? Are you hurt?
Little Girl: No, I'm all right. Are the two of you okay? The monster hit you, didn't it?
Aliza: Hah, those don't even count as hits. Thanks for worrying about us though!
Aliza: I'm really sorry we let you out of our sight... Were you scared?
Little Girl: It wasn't scary at all. Both of you were there to save me!
Aliza: I see. You're a strong one, aren'tcha!
Aliza: (How about we put our plan into action, Farrah?)
Farrah: (You got it!)
Taking Aliza's look as a signal, Farrah gives her friend a discreet thumbs-up.
Farrah: Ah! I have a feeling we might find something over there!
Farrah: Can you guys come take a look with me?
Aliza: (Okay, good. Now I'll just go on ahead and...)
Aliza: Huh?
Wha! No way!
Farrah: Wh-what's the matter?
Aliza: Oh no...
When Aliza pulls the red sea glass out from her pocket, they find the glass neatly broken into three pieces.
Farrah: It must've broke when the monster attacked us just then...
Aliza: I put it in my pocket right away so I wouldn't lose it, but I should've left it somewhere safe instead...
Aliza: Argh... I'm so stupid...
Little Girl: Wow, red sea glass! Did you find that?
Aliza: Y-yeah... It looked a lot prettier before. I'm sorry it's like this now...
Little Girl: What do you mean? It's perfect!
The little girl takes the sea glass and puts a piece in each of their hands.
Little Girl: Now we all have a piece of red sea glass! We all found one!
Aliza: ...
Farrah: Ahaha. I like that idea! I guess it's meant to be!
Aliza: Yeah! Thanks for the sea glass. I'll treasure this forever!
After that, Aliza and Farrah see the little girl home safely.
Their hearts are full as they return to the Grandcypher, grateful for their wonderful encounter on the beach this summer.
That night, Aliza visits Stan at his room to see how he is.
Aliza: How're you feeling, Stan?
Aliza: Farrah's cooking something that's supposed to be good for beating the summer heat. Think you can eat?
Stan: Um, yeah. I'm feeling a lot better after resting for a day... I'll have some.
Stan: (Phew, glad she didn't come in her swimsuit. I can finally talk to her normally.)
Stan: Sorry I worried you. How was the beach? Did you have fun?
Aliza: Yeah, it was great! Look at this! Isn't it so pretty?
To Aliza's surprise, Stan becomes strangely flustered when he sees the red sea glass.
Stan: A-Aliza! Is that red stone... some sort of gem?
Stan: Did a guy give you that? Were they trying to get you interested?
Aliza: Huh? Get me interested? What're you talking about, Stan!
Aliza: I got this from a little girl we spent some time with at the beach! And it's not exactly a gem.
Aliza: Besides, why would I accept a present from a guy I don't even know when I have you... Geez.
Stan: O-oh... Right, I see... Sorry I was jumping to conclusions.
Aliza: If you're that worried, you should just come with me. You know, next year... or something...
Stan: Aliza...
Y-you're right. I'll go with you next year, for sure...
Aliza: ...
Stan: ...
Aliza: ...
Anyway, that's all I had to say!
Aliza: Farrah's waiting for us, so I'm gonna go back first!
Stan: A-all right!
Aliza: ...
Aliza: Next year, huh... Heheh.
A smile spreads across Aliza's face as she wastes no time imagining what awaits her next summer.
