Overview

Richard is a highly straighforward R character. He can either buff your party or debuff your party depending on RNG. His buffs are unimpressive however, and just being able to debuff your party with no upside leads to him having the reputation as the worst character in the game for good reason.

Strengths

  • Can sometimes buff up to 30% ATK UpATK is boosted

  • 100% uptime on all buffs.
  • Very rarely can triple his own damage output, acting like an Assassin skill.

Weaknesses

  • Defense buffs are most the time negligible making Resist Draw a useless skill.
    • Defense debuffs on the other hand can be lethal.
  • Although it's roughly twice as more likely to get buffed than debuffed, getting debuffed at all will hurt your surviabilty and DPS
    • The strength of the buffs, sometimes going as low as 10%, are not powerful enough to justify the potential drawbacks.
  • Is an R, so he has very poor stats, lacks a 3rd skill (or even a 2nd skill arguably), and weak charge attacks.

How to Play

Richard is an incredibly simple to use. Just click on his skills and hope for the best. His cooldown is just as long as the duration meaning you get 100% uptime. Alternatively, there are other sources of better characters elsewhere, either from the Main Quests or Side Stories. There are plenty of better options for characters freely available.

Synergy

Richard may have a place in water R teams if you don't have enough of the other 8 R characters in water. Although you could probably just as easily go off element so long as you aren't using Krugne and do just as well.

His old support skill used to make it so that he had boosted effectiveness against "Divine Birds", but was never relevant outside of his debut event, Festival of Falling Flame.

Ultimately, he synergizes well with the bench.

Priorities

Honestly, don't invest the EMP in him. Just don't. If you really want to, you can't go wrong with DA and Crit as they are staples in most EMP builds. His support skill shouldn't be considered at all as the chance to reduce defense hurts more than any chance of gaining ATK. All of his other options are equally unimpressive, so they can be filled as desired. Maybe Defense nodes to offset the def down debuff, but again, just invest that EXP in someone else.
