Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

(Captain), do you have a moment?
Hehe. Juliet agreed to help out, so we're going to have your party here.
Planning surprise parties is not my strong suit, but I'd say this turned out quite well.
You're another year older and all the wiser!
Now then. Let us enjoy this day to the fullest! Cheers!

2

(Captain), I didn't want to resort to this, but I have something of the utmost importance to ask you.
You'll accept? Very good then.
Take this piece of paper, go to the location on that paper at the specified time, and do as the instructions say.
(Captain) does as Paris says and goes to the location indicated—Paris's castle.
Happy birthday!
You don't know what this is? Humph, I assume the surprise is a success then.
My apologies for lying to you, there is nothing pressing I need you to do.
I simply needed a way to get you to come here.
But you seem far too satisfied for one who was just duped. It must take more than this to get past you.
Today I've called together several musicians to perform for the night. Please, enjoy.

3

Happy birthday, (Captain).
What? Why are you so surprised? Wait, do I have the wrong day?
Oh, I see... You're surprised to see me alone.
I suppose the party last year was a bit much.
But this year I was thinking of something more intimate. Something more quiet.
I suppose that was a surprise in and of itself?
For reference, which would you have preferred? A bustling celebration or a private affair?
Both? You are a greedy one.
Let me ponder how best to solve that puzzle for next year.

4

Happy birthday, (Captain).
I apologize that none of the castle attendants came to greet you. They all happen to be out at the moment.
It isn't much, but I thought you might enjoy a view of Verona from the terrace.
Paris and (Captain) look out over the city while massaging their taste buds with sweet cake and sips of herbal tea.
Then a sudden bugle fanfare causes (Captain) to look over the terrace rampart in surprise. A brass band waves up at (Captain).
Haha, that caught your attention, didn't it?
Last year you told me you wanted some quiet time, but you also wanted a big surprise.
You can choose to stay here on the terrace, or go down and hang out with the band.
So what would you like to do today?

5

Happy birthday, (Captain).
Seems it's become tradition to hold a party for you every year.
(Captain), you always give me your honest opinion on everything I do.
Thanks to you, I've been able to learn about many cultures and values I didn't know before, and change the way I do things accordingly.
I want to continue expanding my outlook and be someone who can lead the people of this country to happiness.
And I hope we can keep celebrating your birthday every year. After all, there is still so much we can learn and attain together.
When it becomes difficult for you to visit Verona, let's keep in touch through letters. I can't say I have a talent for writing, but I will do my best.
Well then, cheers to you on this special day.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

I like it when the new year is upon us. It puts me in good spirits.
It's the perfect time for all people, good and bad, to reflect on themselves and take the first step in a brand-new journey.
What sort of year do you want this to be, (Captain)?
As for me I think I'd like to overcome my distaste for rice cakes this year.
Humph, do you find that funny? But taking the first step is crucial for making big achievements.
(Captain), why don't you decide on a small goal for yourself?

2

Last year I made a resolution to overcome my distaste for rice cakes, but it was easier said than done, to say the least...
As a man, I couldn't leave my resolution unresolved. As such, I recently entered myself into a rice cake making contest.
And for some reason, the rice cakes that I made were surprisingly delicious.
Things taste better when you make them yourself, you say?
I see. It does make sense that you would feel a unique sense of joy from things you put your own effort into.
I'm actually not quite fond of mint, either. Perhaps if I applied the same method again...
It's decided, then. When it gets a bit warmer, I'll try growing some of my own leaves. A splendid idea, yes?

3

A new year begins. Have you written down your resolutions yet, (Captain)?
Last year I decided to overcome my distaste for mint, starting by growing my own mint leaves.
Due to my hectic schedule, the stalks outgrew the pot before I realized how much they'd grown.
For a plant to have this capacity to grow came as a shock to me. It taught me that this is what life is all about.
I'm lucky to learn a lesson from something that I've always kept at arm's length.
Don't let fear stop you from facing a weakness. Keep that lesson close to heart.
Is there anything you find difficult to face, (Captain)? Then allow me to help you. We shall brave the unknown together.

4

Happy New Year.
I'm glad you took the time to return to Verona just to wish me a happy New Year. Make yourself at home.
Oh, I was about to make the rounds in the city.
Thanks to the progress of the reconstruction efforts, the entire city plans to usher in the new year.
But amid all the joy, there are some individuals who might take things too far.
In order to ensure that everyone has a safe celebration, I will personally patrol the area.
Hm? You're offering to come patrol with me?
Hm. As our guest, I was hoping you'd enjoy the pleasures of the festivities. On the other hand, it would also be rude of me to refuse your request.
Then as the next best thing, I shall give you a tour of the revelry as we make our sweep.
Seeing non-locals having fun too would certainly prove that all the sweat and tears shed for reconstruction wasn't in vain. Please enjoy all that Verona has to offer.

5

We had a splendid celebration last night. Verona's skies were lit with such glorious fireworks for the first time in a long while.
The people welcomed in the new year together, looking up at the same sky regardless of differences in status, occupation, gender...
I truly feel that this opportunity to connect with the people and to feel the same happiness together is something very special.
There is still a long way to go in restoring the city, but I hope we can have more opportunities like this to share our joy from here on out.
Is that my goal for this year, you ask? Hm, yes...
My personal goal was, in fact, to conquer my distaste for watercress...
But I had yet to decide on my goal as count. I suppose I will work on these two things this year, as both a politician and an individual.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Even in Verona I often see young maidens giving chocolate to the target of their affection.
Hmm... I suppose it means the people have relaxed enough to enjoy simple moments with each other.
Hm? What? You prepared some chocolate for me too?
Er, I never thought you'd go so far as to give some to me, (Captain). Honestly, I'm surprised.
Thank you. I graciously accept your feelings, Captain.

2

It's Valentine's Day... I've received some chocolates from the ladies of the castle.
But never have I received this many. What could've happened?
Hm? My appearance is gentler now?
And because of that... More people are giving me chocolates this year. Hmm... I see.
You may have played a role in that, (Captain). I've learned a lot from you since joining the crew.
Heh... And you're even giving me chocolate too.
Of course I'll accept it.
To show my respect for you, I promise to eat yours first.

3

Ah, (Captain). Have you come to deliver chocolates?
No, I don't find it bothersome. Nor do I dislike chocolates. You can be sure of my gratitude.
What I am worried about, however, is that if I receive too much, I won't be able to finish them all by myself.
I came close to giving up last year.
Therefore I devised a plan of attack. For the past few days, I've cut out sweet foods while reducing my meal portion sizes.
This lays the groundwork for eating every last bit of chocolate you give me!
Now then. I'll gladly accept your gift.

4

Ah, (Captain). Come to give me chocolates again this year?
Thank you for this gift from the heart.
My position as a duke affords me many opportunities to receive gifts.
But none compare to a gift that is heartfelt. It's something I'll never grow tired of.
I'm proud to know that someone like you has me on their mind.
I knew what today would entail, so I took a brief hiatus from consuming sweets. I am most grateful of your considerations.

5

What's that? How much chocolate have I received?
Hm... If I am to be completely honest, I have not counted.
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't appreciate the effort behind the gifts of chocolate.
Generally, each gift represents the thoughts of a single person, does it not?
The feelings of each and every person are being expressed through their gifts, and that is what is important to me.
I simply feel that such a matter of significance cannot be measured by the number of gifts received.
A natural heartbreaker, you say? Hm. Is that what you think?
Still, regardless of how many gifts there are, I would be disappointed if I did not receive one from you, (Captain).
I truly appreciate this gift you've brought me. Thank you, (Captain).

White Day Cutscenes

1

(Captain), do you have a moment? I'd like to give you your White Day present.
Hm? You're glad that I've started to openly enjoy these customs?
No, I was never against them from the start. Let's just say that it's good to enjoy the little things in times like these.
Hmm... Perhaps I didn't realize how much you've rubbed off on me, (Captain).
I think I'll take the initiative in these events from now on. Look forward to it, (Captain).

2

White Day is upon us... When presents are given in return for Valentine's Day.
Remember on Valentine's Day when I received all those chocolates?
I've returned the favors and sent them all gifts today.
All acts of kindness should be repaid in full. These kinds of courtesies will be vital in the restoration of Verona.
And with that, here you are, (Captain). As thanks for Valentine's Day.
I'm sorry that yours was the last one. As an apology of sorts, I've prepared some tea for you that will go nicely with it.
Now then, please enjoy. Hmm... Why don't we enjoy them together, just the two of us?

3

Ah, I'm glad I finally found you, (Captain). I've been looking everywhere.
As you may have guessed, it's about your White Day gift.
Unfortunately there was an accident while it was in transit, and it seems the sweets were lost.
I was told a replacement order couldn't be completely prepared in time for today.
Thus I took it upon myself to handmake the rest.
If you'll forgive my shoddy work, I would like to give them to you.
Is that so? Perfect! Then I shall take you to the kitchen right away.

4

(Captain), I would like you to have this White Day present.
While I am technically returning the kindness you showed me on Valentine's Day, this is just as much my way of saying thank you.
I don't know who devised this tradition of gifting sweets.
But the inventor must have been a considerate person.
For some people, they aren't always comfortable with giving gifts and expressing their feelings, so making it a holiday removes some of that hesitation.
In any case, thank you again, (Captain).
Hm... Tradition or not, I can't help but think my words feel a little awkward.

5

It is to my understanding that the sweets given on White Day have specific meanings.
These, too, must be guidelines devised by the considerate person we talked about last year.
I took it upon myself to look into these meanings, and have selected a suitable gift for you in return for Valentine's.
A gift of marshmallows.
What? Marshmallows... are an expression of dislike? Is that true?
From what I gathered, they're supposed to represent gratitude by gently enveloping the kindness given with the chocolate received on Valentine's, and returning it.
I see... It appears there are a number of different theories. I apologize for not having done more thorough research...
You'll take the marshmallows? And... you understand the true intentions behind my gift?
I'm glad. You certainly have a generous heart, (Captain). I hope you enjoy the sweets.

1

Captain. To lead means to keep yourself strictly in check at all times.
That's especially true during lighthearted festivities like today.
That being said, you already look like you're completely enjoying yourself, (Captain).
Oh well. It's good to experience these things while you're still young.
If you tackle everything in earnest, I'm sure you'll be able to do anything.

2

(Captain), your costume. Are you a Halloween knight?
Thinking about it, I've started to see the children of Verona wearing costumes as well.
Smiles are slowly returning to Verona. It looks like the restoration is coming along nicely. I'm glad.
And what's that you have in your hand? Vampire fangs? You want me to put them on?
While it's true I've gotten used to enjoying this holiday, I'm still not entirely... comfortable with that sort of thing.
Trick or treat?
But as you can see, I have no candy on me...
Fine. Give me those. I'll deign myself to put them on.

3

Today is Halloween. (Captain), your costume makes that all the more real.
Even in Verona, although only a small scale, festivities are underway.
I'm so glad the people have time to engage in more casual matters now.
Last year I was a bit embarrassed, but I've become accustomed to the celebration.
So what will you do this year? I will be by your side whatever it may be.
What? You want us to put on costumes and go to the Halloween party?
I see... The waters will be more turbulent than the year preceding...
Humph... As you will it. I will exhaust all my efforts to enjoy myself.

4

(Captain)? What are you doing with that large gun in your hand...
It's part of your grand scheme for Halloween trickery?
All I see is a safety hazard... But I'm sure you've thought this out, correct?
Hoping to allay Paris's concerns, (Captain) pulls the gun's trigger, and out pops a crumpled paper ball.
Ah, I see. Yes, that should be safe enough.
Might I suggest wrapping a piece of candy in the paper?
That way the duped party has an incentive to pick it up instead of leaving litter on the ground.
Hm, I'll cover the cost of the treats for you. It was my idea after all.

5

Whenever this season comes around, I worry about Juliet.
Once, I saw Juliet praying at the cathedral on the night of Halloween.
Though I didn't ask her directly, I know she is thinking about and praying for those who have passed away.
Juliet is a very sympathetic person. She feels responsible in making sure the same kind of tragedy won't ever happen again.
When I see her being so earnest, I can't help but be worried. I want to do what I can to support her...
But we are too close. And because of this, I'm certain there are things she doesn't want me to see.
That's why I'd like to ask you to watch over her for me, (Captain). Will you help me support her in times of need?
Thank you, (Captain). I'm glad you're here with me.

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Today's a time when the whole world feels restless. (Captain), do you remember what I said earlier?
Heh. I see you're already busy with preparations for tonight's feast.
You always enjoy each event to the fullest. I find it truly admirable.
What? No, I'm not being sarcastic. These day-to-day activities are what make us human.
I hate to neglect these events, but... I'm afraid the reconstruction of Verona is far from complete.
Hm? You want me to stay? Are you sure?
I couldn't possibly decline your kind offer, (Captain). I'll gladly join you.

2

Last year's holiday party really left an impression on me.
I volunteered to chip in for this year's preparations. Would you mind having a look at what I've done so far?
Hmm, sprinkling some white powder on the windows will make it look like they have snow on them? That sounds like an excellent idea.
In the past I've always left this work to the servants. I never knew to appreciate how much work it is.
Hm? My clothes are dirty? My apologies, how uncouth of me.
It just goes to show how hard I've been working, you say?
Haha, I'll gladly accept those words.
Now then, I'd best get to decorating these windows. Would you be so kind as to help me, (Captain)?

3

Yet another holiday party approaches tonight. I must say I now look forward to helping with arrangements.
A vibrant party is all well and good, but by lending a hand, I come to learn more about the townspeople.
Here's a few points I noticed.
With but scant few words, I can see that each person has their own story to tell, climbing different rungs of the social ladder, and dealing with their own unique problems.
I wish I could ensure happiness for everyone, but...
Ahem. I digress. 'Tis a night for joviality, and I won't drag down the mood with difficult matters.
You and all in the crew deserve a night of joyous partying.
Have a look at the decorations I had a hand in when you can. I pulled out all the stops this year.

4

Candles are lit and placed in ornate glass cases all around Verona's plaza today.
This holiday is a reminder of the importance of spending time with family.
I wondered if there was anything I could do to make this precious time even more enjoyable for the people.
Though I am but an amateur who came to rely on the handiwork of the attendants, I think it was a success.
It's starting to get dark. The full brilliance of the candles should soon become clear.
I think I shall head over to the plaza to see how the people are faring. Will you come along as well, (Captain)?
The experience I gain this year will be useful for future holidays. If you have any feedback, I would like to hear it.

5

Do you remember how I had candles in glass cases placed around the plaza last year?
Actually, when I was retreiving them after the night's celebrations...
A number of the glass cases had words scrawled on them—wishes made by citizens.
Isn't it wonderful? Being able to connect with the people's thoughts and emotions in this way... I was deeply touched.
This year, I decided to prepare the glass cases again, as well as a space where people can write their wishes before lighting the candles themselves.
Why don't you write something too, (Captain)? Surely, wishes can grant others happiness.
I know your wishes have the power to do so. If one person writes, others will naturally follow. I'm counting on you, (Captain).

A Letter from Home

One day, Paris is in his office hard at work when a single letter arrives for him. As the count mulls over what to write in reply, Rosalind and Benvolio pay him a visit, worried about his overwork. They coerce him into joining them for late-night teatime. When asked about his hometown, Paris becomes briefly lost in thought.

Paris: ...
Paris: Whew... Time certainly passes by in the blink of an eye. It's almost noon.
Paris: I was hoping for a bit more time to prepare for this afternoon's council session on our new laws...
The republic of Verona.
The country was once divided in two as a result of a conflict between Montague and Capulet that lasted for over ten years.
Romeo, the heir of Montague, and Juliet, the princess of Capulet.
Coming from rival families, the two had found themselves in a tragic love that seemed not to be.
Meanwhile, there were those who conspired for the revival of Escalus—a royal family who once ruled over Verona.
Among these conflicting ambitions, the people's hearts were disconnected and in a state of unrest. Much blood and many tears were shed.
However, it was also through the people's desire for peace in the country that Verona was brought together once more.
The monarchy was abolished, and Verona was reborn as a republic—something that happened only recently.
Paris: This session will most likely be a long one, seeing how we need to discuss further about the tariffs...
Paris is a count who was once engaged to Juliet of the Capulets.
Though there was a time when he fought against Romeo of the Montagues, after a series of events, the two have since become good friends.
Now, Paris serves as one of the leaders of Verona's council, devoting himself every day to working for the republic.
Paris: At this point in time, the funds we can secure are...
Paris: Come in.
Assistant: Pardon my intrusion.
Assistant: My lord, a letter has arrived for you.
Paris: Thank you. You can leave it over there.
Assistant: Very well. If you'll excuse me.
Paris: A letter... Let's see if it's something personal or for work.
Paris reaches for the envelope on his desk and turns it over to see who the sender is.
Paris: I don't believe it!
Eyes widening at the name written on the back, he quickly picks up a letter opener.
Paris: It's been so long... Ten years? No, perhaps more than that.
He carefully removes the seal to open the envelope.
That night.
Paris: Come to think of it, there's been a request for maintenance on the canal that runs along the west district.
Paris: I'd like to go for an inspection, but the next available time I have is...
When Paris opens his journal, the envelope he had placed between its pages flies out.
Paris: (If possible, I'd like to take my time in writing a reply, but I don't want to respond too late...)
Frowning slightly, the count is lost in thought when a knock sounds at his door.
Paris: Who could it be at this hour?
Paris: Come in.
Rosalind: Good evening, Count Paris. Please pardon my late intrusion.
Paris: Rosalind? And...
Benvolio: Please excuse us, my lord. I don't mean to barge in like this...
Rosalind: Oh, Benvolio! We certainly are not barging.
Rosalind: We're simply here to inform Count Paris that it is time for tea.
Paris: Time for tea?
Rosalind: Just as I thought. You're still working, aren't you?
Paris: Yes... There never seems to be enough time.
Rosalind: I understand, but we would love for you to join us regardless.
Rosalind: Come and take a break before the tea grows cold.
Benvolio: I also happened to receive some desserts. I've brought them with me, if you would be inclined to have some.
Paris: Very well... Then I shall take you up on the offer.
With a small sigh, Paris closes his journal.
Paris: Mm. This is delicious.
Holding a teacup in his hand, Paris gazes out at the night sky beyond the balcony.
Under the faint stars, dots of light are scattered throughout the streets of Verona.
Paris: ...
Benvolio: Count Paris... Um, you look rather pale...
Paris: Do I? It is rather dark out here.
Benvolio: I don't think it's that... Are you sure you're not pushing yourself too hard? Please take some time to rest.
Paris: No, I...
Paris: I'm fine. I'm sure you're busier than I am.
Benvolio: Huh? Me?
Paris: I imagine juggling your job as an actor at the Rose Theater with your duties as a council member to be no easy feat.
Benvolio: I'm... very much still a novice when it comes to matters of the council... I'm sorry.
Paris: That wasn't intended to be criticism. I'm genuinely impressed.
Rosalind: Hehe.
Rosalind: Oh my, this dessert is scrumptious. You must try some, Count Paris.
Paris: I will, thank you.
Rosalind: You received these desserts from a fan of yours, didn't you, Benvolio?
Paris: Is that so? I shouldn't take this then—
Benvolio: Please, it's fine! These are delicious, so I want to share them with all of you as well.
Benvolio: I'm very much still a fledgling as a council member, but even more so as an actor.
Benvolio: I'm only just managing to keep up with everything. Still...
Benvolio: Every day has been incredibly fulfilling for me.
Paris: I see.
Benvolio: Oh, speaking of which—we have upcoming plans to perform for some students at a newly built school.
Paris: That's a good idea.
Benvolio: Yes, it's a new kind of endeavor for the Rose Theater. Though... I've been struggling at the rehearsals for it.
Rosalind: Hehe... You did say the other day that your muscles were sore from rehearsing the sword fights.
Benvolio: R-Rosalind! Please...
Rosalind: It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I would say that's proof of your hard work.
Benvolio: Yes, but... bringing that up now just brings attention to the fact that I lack the stamina I need for my performance!
Rosalind: No use sulking about it. You spent all your time inside reading when you were little, so it's no surprise that you'd find this challenging.
Paris: Ah, that's right. The two of you have known each other since you were children, haven't you?
Benvolio: Yes. Rosalind... hasn't changed much since we were young.
Benvolio: She still treats me like a child, as always...
Rosalind: Hehe. You have become a lot more strong-willed, Benvolio.
Rosalind: Back in the day, you'd refuse to say outright that you wanted to play with Lord Romeo and Mercutio, and simply watched from afar.
Benvolio: See, you're doing it again! You just like teasing me, don't you?
Rosalind: I'm not teasing! I'm happy that you've grown up so much.
Benvolio: That's what I mean about treating me like a child...
Paris: Nothing to complain about, Benvolio. Old acquaintances you feel comfortable with are invaluable, after all.
Rosalind: Well, what about you, Count Paris?
Paris: What about me?
Rosalind: You came to Verona because of your engagement to Juliet, didn't you?
Rosalind: Do you have family and childhood friends back home, then?
Paris: Home...
Paris unconsciously looks down at the journal he had taken with him out to the balcony.
Paris: No... I have devoted the entirety of myself to Verona—this is my home now.
Tearing his eyes away from the notebook, he takes another sip of his tea, which has gone slightly lukewarm from the cool night air.

Sincerely

(Captain) and company arrive at Verona for the first time in a while. They bump into Anthony, a popular actor at the Rose Theater, who asks for their help for a performance at a school the next day. Meanwhile, Paris is reflecting on his own feelings toward Verona as he sits at his desk, a blank piece of letter paper in front of him. A knock sounds at his door, and Rosalind comes in to request his company.

One sunny day.
Lyria: Wow! It's been a long time since we came to Verona, hasn't it?
(Captain) and company are stopping by for a visit after completing some errands nearby.
Vyrn: Yeah! I'm glad the town's lookin' so lively!
Lyria: Me too! I hope everyone's doing well.
Vyrn: We've got time, so maybe we can go see 'em again before we leave.
Lyria: Look, Vyrn! It's the Rose Theater!
The Rose Theater is a performance space Juliet had worked hard to establish.
She had it built intending for it to be a place that could heal the hearts of those hurt by the war—and sure enough, the theater has been one of the main spots for entertainment in Verona since.
Vyrn: It has been a while. I kinda wanna go see a show!
Lyria: That's a great idea! I wonder if there are still tickets available... I hope they're not all sold out.
Vyrn: They might be...
Vyrn: Hey!
???: Hm?
Lyria: Oh, Anthony!
Anthony: (Captain)! All of you are here! It's been so long!
Anthony is the most popular face at the Rose Theater.
The crew met him when Verona was still on its way to becoming a republic.
Lyria: It's great to see you!
Vyrn: Perfect! We were just talkin' about how we wanted to go see a show at the Rose Theater.
Anthony: Ah, then I'm just the man for you!
Well, that's what I'd really love to say, but...
Anthony: Today's actually our day off.
Lyria: Oh, I see... That's too bad.
Anthony: Sorry about the bad timing.
Vyrn: Nah, it's not your fault! Are you rehearsing for a new show or something?
Anthony: Actually, no...
Anthony: We're performing at a school tomorrow, so we've closed the theater today to prepare for it.
Vyrn: Performin' at a school? That's cool!
Anthony: Yeah, we're really hoping we can bring a fun time to the kids.
Anthony: After the show, we plan to give them a workshop on how we do things.
Anthony: Not just looking at the acting, but also at how we make the set, do stage direction, and stuff like that. Anything to get them interested in theatre.
Lyria: That sounds wonderful!
Anthony: Right? We've got a lot planned, so preparing for it's been quite some work...
Anthony: Oh yeah! How long will you all be in Verona for?
Vyrn: We haven't decided yet.
Lyria: We don't have anything urgent, so we're thinking of taking our time here!
Anthony: Ahh. In that case, would you be interested in giving us a hand?
Vyrn: Hm? You sure you're okay with us helpin' out?
Anthony: Of course! See it as an official request for your crew.
Lyria: Hehe. We gladly accept!
Anthony: Haha, awesome! Grateful for the help!
Anthony: Oh, I should mention this.
Anthony: We may be performing at a school, but we plan to make it the same quality as a show at the Rose Theater, so look forward to seeing that!
While (Captain) and the others are in town talking with Anthony...
Paris: ...
Paris is in his room, frowning down at a blank piece of paper.
Paris: (I was really happy when I read the letter... but somehow, I'm finding it difficult to think of what to write in reply.)
Paris: Sigh...
The pen in Paris's hand continues to hover above the page, failing to touch it.
Paris: What have I been doing recently?
Paris's schedule is, of course, always packed with things for him to do—so much so that it would be impossible for him to write everything down.
Though his days have undoubtedly been productive, he still finds it hard to pinpoint what to write.
Paris: No matter how I write it, the letter is sure to end up being only about Verona.
Paris: (Does that say anything about me personally though?)
The more he thinks about it, the harder it is to bring his pen to the paper.
Paris: (Verona is a place that Romeo and Lady Juliet love very much.)
Paris: (Now it is a precious place to me as well—as close to my heart as my hometown. That I know for certain.)
Paris: Still, for some reason...
Paris: (When I think about how to put these thoughts into written words, I just don't know how to explain where the feelings are coming from...)
Paris: (Do I treasure Verona because it is a place that the ones I love treasure? Or is it because I love this place myself?)
Paris: And here I thought I had this figured out...
Another sigh escapes Paris as he mulls over his feelings alone.
Paris: Come in.
At the sound of a knock at his door, Paris puts down his pen.
Rosalind: Pardon me, Count Paris.
Paris: Ah, Rosalind. What's the matter?
Rosalind: I've come with a request. It is my understanding that you do not have any council meetings scheduled for tomorrow.
Paris: That's correct...
Rosalind: Excellent. Then will you be so kind as to take a break from your work and accompany me for the day?

Sincerely: Scene 2

The next day, the crew is reunited with Paris at the elementary school. As (Captain) and company tell Paris about their recent adventures, the count begins to think about what the difference between him and the crew is. After preparations are complete and the performance successfully comes to an end, Paris walks to the back of the school to take a break when he spots a little boy sitting by himself, looking worried. Without introducing himself as the count, Paris asks why the boy is alone.

The next day.
Rosalind: Count Paris! Would you carry this curtain for me, please?
Paris: Of course. This one?
Rosalind has taken Paris with her to the school that the actors of the Rose Theater are performing at for the day.
Benvolio: Count Paris, wait! Please take this with you too!
Paris: Very well!
Paris: This is... quite the hard labor...
Having finished with carrying the heavy props, Paris lets out a deep breath. He looks up to see some familiar figures nearby.
Paris: Isn't that...
Paris: Vyrn. Lyria. (Captain).
Lyria: Oh, Paris!
Vyrn: Hey, Paris! You're here too?
Paris: Yes, I was asked to help out for the day. What about all of you? I wasn't aware that you were in Verona.
Lyria: We just arrived yesterday!
Vyrn: Yeah, we had business not too far from here and decided to drop by.
Vyrn: That's when we bumped into the theater mister at the Rose Theater.
Lyria: Hehe. When we heard about the show today from Anthony, we just had to come help too!
Paris: I see.
Lyria: We were hoping to go see you and Juliet after we're done here!
Vyrn: Yeah! Who'd have thought that we'd bump into you here instead? How've ya been?
Paris: As usual, I've been involved with the council...
Paris: No matter how I write it, the letter is sure to end up being only about Verona.
Paris: (Does that say anything about me personally though?)
Paris: ...
Lyria: Paris? Is something wrong?
Paris: Never mind... Nothing's changed for me. How about you?
Lyria: We're doing great as always!
Vyrn: Yeah! We've been goin' around to places all over!
Vyrn: Speakin' of which, we went to Port Breeze for a request the other day...
Lyria: The shop owner was so happy after. It made us really glad to have helped too!
Vyrn: For sure! Bet you were especially happy about the food he treated us to for helpin' him out, right, Lyria?
Lyria: Oh, Vyrn! Well, it was very delicious...
As Lyria and company continue to talk excitedly about their recent adventures, Paris can't help but crack a smile.
Paris: I see... I'm glad nothing much has changed for you.
Paris: (Would I be able to talk about what I've done as sincerely as them?)
Paris: (What makes me different from them?)
Lyria: Oh, yes! Paris!
Paris: Yes?
Lyria: Actually, we heard from Anthony earlier...
Lyria: You were the one who proposed to have this school built, weren't you?
Vyrn: That's right!
Vyrn: We heard that because schools were located in either the former Montague or Capulet districts...
Vyrn: A lotta them still had remnants of the time when Verona was divided.
Lyria: But this school is built where the wall dividing the districts used to be, isn't it?
Lyria: So now, children from both the former Montague and Capulet houses go to the same school!
Vyrn: The theater mister was talkin' about how incredible this was!
Paris: I simply thought that this was necessary for the future of Verona.
Paris: The adults that lived in the age when Verona was divided carry many biases from that time.
Paris: As a result, they still have to be careful where they step.
Paris: But I hope that it can be different for the children, and that they can grow up with an undivided Verona as the only home they know.
Paris: I believe that this school will be an excellent support in building up a new age in Verona.
Lyria: That's wonderful... Verona will definitely become an amazing place.
Vyrn: With Paris here, there's no doubt about it!
Paris: I'm only doing what I can for Verona...
Paris: (That's easy to say. But how much of it is genuine? How do I really feel... about Verona?)
Vyrn: Paris? You okay?
Lyria: Are you feeling a little tired?
Paris: No, I'm fine.
Paris: I should go. I'll have Rosalind to answer to if I loiter for too long.
Lyria: Ah, I'm sorry we started talking to you when you were in the middle of something!
Vyrn: We should get back to work too!
Paris: Whew... Most of the preparations seem to be done.
As everyone is scrambling about trying to get ready before the start of the show, someone calls out to Paris.
Anthony: Count Paris.
Paris: Anthony... Is it not almost time for you to stand on stage?
Anthony: Yes, thankfully. We wouldn't have been able to make it in time without your help.
Anthony: I never expected that Count Paris himself would come to assist us.
Anthony shrugs his shoulders, almost theatrically, before his gaze grows slightly more serious.
Anthony: Were you able to clear your mind a little, Count Paris?
Paris: What?
Anthony: Forgive me. It's just that, to me, it seemed as if there was something on your mind today.
Paris: ...
It is to my knowledge that you are the star of today's show.
Paris: I'm surprised you still had the mental capacity to watch other people that closely.
Anthony: Watching other people is the lifework of an actor—at least that's what I believe.
Anthony: Putting that aside...
Anthony: In my opinion, you've been secluding yourself too much, Count Paris.
Anthony: You should go outside more often and move your body regularly.
Anthony: Of course, you were a big help to us with the preparations today. But I'm thinking...
Anthony: Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at acting?
Paris: You think I would be a suitable actor?
Anthony: Not at all.
Anthony: But there are things that you don't know unless you try.
Anthony: Let me know when you are so inclined. You'd be most welcome.
Giving the count a dramatic bow, Anthony straightens his costume.
Anthony: It's almost showtime. If you'll excuse me, Count Paris.
Anthony takes his leave, walking toward the side of the stage to stand by.
Paris: Outside, huh?
Anthony: This was brought to you by the Rose Theater. Thank you for watching.
Excited Child: That was so cool!
Awed Child: It was so fun to watch!
Paris: ...
After the successful performance, Paris is at the back of the school building to take a break. He breathes a sigh of relief.
Paris: I certainly moved a lot of muscles I don't usually use today... Hopefully the soreness will cure itself by tomorrow.
Groaning as he rubs his arms, Paris turns and catches a glimpse of someone's head near some secluded stairs a ways away.
Paris: (Is that... a student? Everyone from the school should be at the workshop around now...)
Young Student: ...
Paris walks closer to find a young boy sitting with his arms wrapped around his knees.
Paris: What's the matter? What are you doing here?
Young Student: Ah! I'm sorry, I...
The boy hurriedly tries to stand up, but Paris puts a reassuring hand on his shoulder. The count drops down to a crouch beside him.
Paris: I'm not here to bring you back. I... simply want to take a break, just like you.
Young Student: A break?
The student hesitates before sitting back down.
Paris: You go to this school, don't you? How did you find the show just now?
Young Student: It was really cool. I liked the part where they fought with swords.
Paris: Yes, that was splendid, wasn't it? I couldn't take my eyes off it either.
Young Student: Yeah! How do they move so quickly like that?
Paris: If you want to know, you should join the workshop.
Paris: The actors from that scene should be there for you to talk to.
Young Student: Right... But...
His expression clouds over, and the boy hangs his head.
Paris: You know... I'm not a teacher at this school, or an actor from the Rose Theater. I'm just a regular passerby.
Young Student: Huh?
Paris: Even if you were to tell me something, I have no reason or means to tell anyone who knows you.
Paris: So... if there is something you'd like to talk about, you can tell me. What brought you here all by yourself?

Sincerely: Scene 3

The little boy tells Paris that he has been unhappy about the lingering discord between the former Capulets and Montagues. Seeing the boy's kindness and sadness, Paris is reminded of dreams he once had—both for Verona and for himself. Paris finally makes a decision to walk a new path toward his dream. Thinking back to the letter he received from his teacher, he looks forward to writing about his new resolution in his reply.

Young Student: You know, I started going to this school 'cause my dad told me to.
The boy hesitates for a moment before continuing.
Young Student: My mom and dad were Capulets.
Young Student: But there are some students at this school who were Montagues, right?
Paris: Yes... there are.
Young Student: My best friend—I mean... someone I saw as my best friend was from a family who used to be Montagues.
Young Student: So... My mom, she...
Paris: Did she say something about it?
Young Student: No... She hasn't said anything, but... she doesn't seem very happy about it.
The little boy balls his fists.
Young Student: So... I've been...
Paris: Do you not like your friend anymore?
Young Student: No... I do. I like him. I want to play with him...
Young Student: I really like my friend. My teacher used to belong to the Montagues too, and his classes are always so fun.
Young Student: But I love my mother... and I don't want her to be sad...
Young Student: I just don't know what to do anymore...
When the boy buries his face in his knees, Paris reaches out to put a hand on his head.
Paris: You're very kind.
Young Student: Kind? Why's that?
Paris: You considered your mother's feelings, and also thought about your friend and your teacher.
Young Student: But I've been avoiding my friend recently... I might've hurt his feelings.
Paris: Hm... Maybe, but that doesn't mean you aren't kind.
Paris: If everyone only thought about themselves, our society would crumble in no time.
Paris: People who are kind and can think like you are very important.
Young Student: You... think so?
Paris: But because you're so kind, you're forced to carry the burden all by yourself. To me...
Paris: That's too sad to bear.
Paris smiles wistfully, almost in a self-mocking manner. The boy peers over at the count.
Young Student: Are you sad... because of me?
Paris: No. You're not to blame at all.
Paris: Rather, you have my thanks. You reminded me of something very important.
Young Student: Something... important?
Paris: I have a dream, you see.
Paris: I wish for a Verona where it doesn't matter where one comes from—whether they were once a Montague or a Capulet.
Paris: I wish for a nation where no one cares about such things.
Paris: (Yes. Without a doubt, that is my dream.)
Young Student: Where no one cares about it... Does that mean I wouldn't have to worry about who I'm friends with?
Young Student: No one's gonna be sad?
Paris: That's right.
Young Student: Who's going to make Verona that way?
Paris: You are.
Young Student: Huh? Me? I'm just a kid though.
Paris: Of course, we adults will also do our best to help. But what we can do is limited.
Paris: The ones who can truly change this country and help it grow are all of you—the kids who grow up with it.
Young Student: Us?
The little boy's expression is serious as he contemplates Paris's words.
Young Student: What... should I do?
Paris: You don't have to do anything difficult.
Paris: You can simply talk to someone about what you just told me—what you're worried about, and what you're thinking.
Paris: I am certain that there will be people willing to listen and understand what you are going through.
Rosalind: Count Paris.
After saying goodbye to the boy, Paris is on his way back to where everyone is when Rosalind—who had been patiently waiting—calls out to him.
Rosalind: To think the count would run away to a place like this.
Paris: I was simply taking a break.
Rosalind: Hehe, I am merely jesting. Benvolio has been searching for you—he says he would like to express his gratitude for your help.
Paris: There is no need...
Paris: Rosalind, did you see how the children's eyes sparkled when they looked upon the stage?
Rosalind: Yes... They seemed so happy. They looked like they were enjoying it so much that it made me glad too.
Paris: Yes, truly. Their smiles are our country's future... Seeing that is enough for me.
Rosalind: Count Paris...
Rosalind: You truly love this country, don't you?
Paris's eyes widen at Rosalind's half-exasperated, half-affectionate words.
Paris: Do you... think so?
Rosalind: Whatever are you talking about? I believe you know the answer to that best.
Paris: Yes... You may be right.
Rosalind: Not only that...
Rosalind holds up one finger, signaling that she has more to say.
Rosalind: I agree with what you said earlier, Count Paris.
Paris: Earlier? What did I say?
Rosalind: Why, you told the little boy just now that there is a limit to what we can do.
Paris: So you were listening...
Rosalind: Hehe.
Rosalind: I think you are exactly right. So... in my opinion, you have done enough already.
Rosalind: Even if you take a step back now, this country will continue to grow.
Paris's breath catches at Rosalind's words. After a pause, he lets out a small sigh.
Paris: I recently received a letter from my teacher back home.
Rosalind: What a wonderful relationship, to still be exchanging contact after all this time!
Paris: It had been a while before this.
Paris: I wasn't sure what to write in response... but I've finally remembered something from the past.
Paris: I once aspired to become a teacher.
Rosalind: Hehe. Yes... I can see you as a spectacular teacher.
Paris: Is that so?
Rosalind: Without a doubt. After all, you've already poured so much effort into guiding the people of this country in the right direction.
Rosalind: A teacher may be slightly different, but in a way, it is still a role in which you guide others.
Rosalind: But hm... I do think...
Rosalind: You could try a little more with your smile.
Paris: I shall do my best.
He gracefully takes in Rosalind's playful yet thoughtful words.
His thoughts wander back to the blank paper left on his desk.
Paris: (My teacher... Yes, I would very much like the chance to meet again. And I'm eager to share...)
Paris: (The decision I've made for myself going forward.)
Paris is now confident that he will know exactly what to write the next time he sits down at his desk.
