What's Beyond Spring
Lily, during her travels with the crew, receives a dress from her sister Tia. Thinking of the joyful day she'll return to the Ice Crystal Palace, Lily is eager to continue her journey until a local townswoman tells her she hopes Lily gets to go home soon. The next day, a strange cold spreads across the Grandcypher, and Erin finds its source to be Lily.
Lily: "P.S. I really like the carry-mel candy, but these are good too! They're made from flower nectar!"
Lily: "Remember to share some with everyone." There! I hope Tia likes this.
Envelopes and stationery are sprawled across the desk from Lily's hours-long struggle to finish writing.
Finally, she raises the completed letter high in the air, smiling in satisfaction at her accomplishment.
Lily: Oh, yeah! Erin needs to write something too!
Lily: Hey, Erin!
Lily is of the Crystalia, a people with hearts of ice who possess a special power that freezes everything around them, whether they will it or not.
She is quested to search for what she calls "spring," a being with the warm power to quell her icy aura.
Her journey is how she ends up meeting and joining (Captain), the very person who possesses the power of spring.
However, she ponders whether it's all right to never leave the captain's side...
Erin: Oh, Lily. Did you finish the letter to Tia?
Lily: Yup! I did it all by myself! And I left room for you to write something. Go on, write, write!
Erin: Heehee, all right... Oh my, how many pages did you write?
Lily: Um, I dunno. I only wrote about playing cat's cradle with Lyria that one time, and how many times she eats seconds at dinner...
Erin: I see, you had a lot to say.
Lily: There's more! That time Vyrn was falling asleep so I bit his tail, and the bite marks lasted three whole days...
Erin: Are you sure you want to write about that? What if she thinks you're being a nuisance and tells you to come home?
Lily: And then, and then... that time I woke up and Vyrn's sleepy face was right there and made me scream...
Lily: Ah, right! I wrote how I made new friends!
Lily: And how I'll introduce everybody next time we visit home.
Erin: Hehe, I'm sure they'd get a warm welcome. I'll write something too, so why don't you come in and wait a while?
Lily: 'Kay! I'll just have a seat.
Lily has grown capable enough to move freely on board without freezing everything in sight, even when away from the calming presence of the captain.
Her progress mastering the power of spring is going smoothly as well.
And one day, a package suddenly arrives...
Lily: (Captain)! Lyria!
Lily: Erin! Vyrn! Look, look, look!
Erin: What's the matter, Lily? Be careful, you might trip rushing around with that box.
Vyrn: Hey, what's all the ruckus? No need to raise the alarm, ya know. We won't run away!
Lyria: What are you so happy about, Lily?
Lily: You gotta see! You gotta see! Look, Tia wrote back! And check it out...
Lily: Tadaaa! This nice dress came with it! It's a thank-you for the candy and for doing such a good job!
Vyrn: Wow! That's great!
Erin: Ah, so clothes were in that package.
Lyria: How wonderful! You really deserve it though for all your hard work!
Lily: Hehehe! She said nice things about you too, Lyria!
Erin: I'm sure Tia really likes all the candy you send her way.
Erin: What did she say in her letter?
Lily: Oh, right! Tia, Allie, Grueler, Gile and Ginta...
Lily: And Ganba, Roddy, Milko, Santos, and Hassan and Linus too!
Lily: They're all doing good! And she said everything's okay here, so have fun on your journey!
Lily: Oh, oh! And Ganba has a new meat and tomato pie at the shop! She says it's the best yet!
Lyria: Ahhh, meat and tomato! Drool...
Vyrn: Haha! Guess we gotta try one when we have a chance to go there!
Vyrn: But what about the dress? You gonna try it on?
Erin: Yeah, we can't wait to see it. Why don't you go get changed? Right, (Captain)?
- I'd love to see it on you!
Choose: I'd love to see it on you!Lily: Okay, be right back! I'll be real fast, so don't go anywhere!
As quickly as she arrived, Lily runs back to her room, dress in hand.
But a long time passes, and she's yet to return...
Vyrn: Gee, ya think she got lost in there?
Lyria: I wonder if she's okay... Lily?
Erin: Hey, Lily? Is everything all right?
Lily's Voice: Y-yeah! I'm fine! It's just... um... Well, I dunno if this is right.
Erin: Lily, can I come in?
Lily's Voice: Uh, sure...
Lily: So... Here it is! How's it, er, how do I look?
The Two: Wow!
While everyone is stunned silent by her new outfit, Lily shakes like a windblown snowflake in uncertainty.
Lily: Is it, um, okay? I don't look weird, do I?
Lyria: Not one bit! Just the opposite—you look amazing! Right, (Captain)?
- You look wonderful.
Choose: You look wonderful.Lily: Th-that's a relief... I was worried it's too grown-up looking for me.
Vyrn: Oh, so that's why you didn't come out. You were worried how it looks.
Erin: Heehee, I was pretty shocked at first. It's so different from your usual appearance... But you really do look nice.
Lily: R-really? I look okay?
- You look cute.
- You look beautiful.
Choose: You look cute.Lily: Yay! Thanks, (Captain)!
Lyria: Yeah, what a pretty white dress. It suits you perfectly!
Choose: You look beautiful.Lily: Huwha! B-beautiful? I've never been called that before!
Erin: Yes... It's long, but so neat and trim. I think you look beautiful too.
Continue 1Lily: Hehehe! My heart was beating so hard, but I'm really happy for the compliments!
Erin: Tia really knows your style. She picked something that looks great on you.
Lily: Yeah! She's really into girls' stuff that's, uh, in vog?
Erin: Vogue?
Lily: Yeah, that! She says they all read a "vague" magazine around Ice Crystal Palace!
Lily: Oh, and you know what! She says she's happy as a snowman that we're having so much fun!
Lily: She says everyone can't wait to hear all about our travels the next time we're home!
Erin: Gosh... I bet I won't get any sleep then cause we'll be talking up a snowstorm all night.
Lyria: Hehe, they're really happy for you, huh.
Vyrn: And you got the knack for controllin' your icy energy, so they're gonna flip when they see you, Lily.
Lily: Hehehe! Her letter said it won't be long till I figure out spring and we can return!
Lily: I won't let you down, Tia! Just wait for me, everyone!
Vyrn: Yeah! That's the spirit!
Lyria: And we'll be with you the whole way!
Erin: ...
Lily: Hehehe, thanks!
The feeling of coming spring sparkles like the smile on Lily's face. Not a cloud looms in the sky.
Tavern Keeper: That sure was some surprise. Who woulda thunk some young'uns would take this quest.
Vyrn: Hehe, but come on. The town's a lot safer without all the monsters, so you can't complain, right?
Tavern Keeper: You got that right! Our food's not gettin' gobbled up anymore. The tavern couldn't be happier!
Vyrn: That's all well and fine, but we better clear out the last troublemakers before we celebrate! Gotta stay on our tails!
Lyria: Right! We'll do our part for a bright tomorrow! And for delicious food!
On a job to clear out some pesky monsters, the crew is staying in a town with wonderfully warm weather.
And with the monsters dwindling down, the crew enjoy a brief respite while smacking their lips over the hot meal before them.
Tavern Keeper: Thank you all. Now eat up and get to it. You too, little missy.
Lily: Om? Nom! Om nom!
Tavern Keeper: Hahaha! This girl knows how to eat. But you must be pretty tough to be a skyfarer at your age.
Vyrn: Yeah, Lily's the best! She works as hard as anyone!
Tavern Keeper: That so. What took you away from your home then, eh, Lily? Got some adventurin' to do?
Lily: Nom nom? Om! Chew, chew... Mmm!
Erin: Hey, don't talk with your mouth full. You'll spit food out and get your nice new dress all dirty.
Erin: Swallow first, would you? Geez...
Lily: Om... Gulp! Hey, did you know I'm gonna solve the mystery of spring! No one will be cold then!
Tavern Keeper: Oh, is that right! Sure sounds tough though. I never knew such a thing was possible.
Tavern Keeper: But I know a kid's sure to get homesick. I hope you get to go home soon.
Lily: Yeah! I hope so too! Real soon...
At that thought, Lily seems to freeze in place.
Lily: Soon?
Her perplexed gaze wanders across the sky, as if searching for what tugged at her heart.
Vyrn: Wow! This apple pie's a big bushel of yum!
Lyria: What! Where! I'll have some too!
But the crew doesn't notice Lily's brief moment of silence.
Lyria: Lily, Erin! Let's get some apple pie before it's all gone!
Lily: Wah! I want some! Gimme, gimme!
A tiny thought crystallizes in Lily's heart, spreading a cold unease through her mind.
And it slowly consumes her, though no one yet realizes.
Until one day...
Erin: Hm? What is this, frost?
There are crystals of ice forming, completely out of place in the tropic town. It is the thing that has gone unseen, already taking root in Erin's window.
Erin: This... It can't be!
Erin: The cold is spreading! But where's it coming from?
Following the source of the icy air, Erin ventures up the ship and finds their disturbing predicament.
Lily: E-Erin?
Standing on the deck is Lily, bound tightly in a frost welling up from within her.
A Place to Bloom
Erin tries to calm down Lily and discovers the outburst of freezing energy is caused by her sister's feelings of anguish from realizing they'd have to leave (Captain) and the others one day. Seeing that the rest of the crew will soon come back, Lily flees the ship in order to keep them safe.
Lily: E-Erin?
Erin: Lily? Why are you covered in frost? What's going on...
Lily stands alone upon the deck of the ship, her entire body slowly becoming enveloped in numbing ice.
Lily: I don't know... I was just in my room reading Tia's letter again.
Lily: Then all of a sudden the cold wouldn't stop. What do I do, Erin?
She looks on with the helpless expression of a lost child while the frigid air relentlessly spreads across the deck.
Seeing Lily trembling, Erin tries to calm her in a gentle voice.
Erin: Is there anything you remember? Like feeling unwell? Or eating too much?
Lily: Um, um, uh... No, nothing! I can't think of anything!
Erin: All right. Just stay calm, Lily—take deep breaths. Let's think about this together. It'll be okay.
Lily: O-okay! I'll be calm! Breathe in, breathe out...
Erin: There you go, let's try to be happy. Think of something fun.
Lily: Okay! Something fun, something fun... What did I do recently...
Lily: Ah! We went to the store! The two of us went shopping, didn't we?
Erin: Yes, we bought matching pens. And we promised to write a letter to Tia.
Lily: Yeah! We promised to write it! Then, um... Then Lyria combed my hair for me!
Lily: I took a bath, and it felt so good I fell asleep...
Lily: And, and! (Captain) split some ice cream with me... It was so good!
Repelled by Lily's warm and happy memories, the freezing ice begins to weaken.
Lily: And... the dress! I got this dress from Tia, and everybody said really nice things!
Erin: Yes, your dress, it looks so good on you. That's it, Lily, almost there.
Lily: Uh, and then in Tia's letter... She said the next time we're back she can't wait to hear tales of our adventures...
Erin: Lily?
Lily: And then... The nice lady in the tavern... said she hopes we can go back soon...
Lily: I said... I hope so... too...
Lily's head sinks down as the icy cold begins to once again take hold.
Erin: Lily! What's wrong? Look at me!
Lily: Erin... Do you think... (Captain) and Lyria and the others...
Lily: You think we have to say goodbye to them one day?
Erin: ...!
Erin: Lily, that's...
Lily: I was fine when I read Tia's letter the first time. It sounded so fun to go home and see everyone...
Lily: But when the nice lady said she hopes it's soon, I felt a tiny little sting.
Lily: I didn't know what the prickling was, so I forgot all about it.
Lily: But... back in my room, when I read the letter again, the prickling got real bad...
Lily: Then the winter started coming out... It got bigger and bigger—I didn't know what to do...
Erin: So you came up to the deck?
Lily: I thought if I stayed in my room like that... it might hurt the others.
Erin: It's all right. You stayed calm and used your head. That was the right decision.
Lily: But...
Lily: Erin... do you think I messed up at becoming spring?
Lily: Everybody told me to have fun and come back safe. Tia even gave me this present.
Erin: You didn't mess up! You didn't fail, Lily. You're trying your hardest!
Lily: But... Huh?
Suddenly realizing something, Lily stares at her frost-clad palm.
Lily: (If this keeps happening... If I'm always cold, then I...)
Lily: Ah!
As Lily's face fades into a snow-white hue, Erin's eyes grow wide in surprise.
Erin: What is it? What's wrong, Lily?
Lily: No... I didn't... I didn't mean to!
Lily: ...
Erin: Lily... Hey!
Just then, a loud rumbling begins to shake the deck of the Grandcypher.
Erin: (The crew might not be able to withstand this cold!)
Erin: Lily!
Erin: Listen! It's almost snack time, okay? And (Captain)'s coming back soon! Let's have a snack with everyone.
Lily: No... It's no use... Lily's a bad girl...
Erin: What are you saying...
Lily: You know, I thought about it... Just a tiny bit.
Lily: If I keep the winter inside, then we won't have to leave.
Erin: What...
Lily: Then we'd get to stay with (Captain) and Lyria.
Lily: But it made me feel better. Even though they might get hurt...
Erin: Lily!
Just then, the unexpected voices of cherished friends reach their ears.
Vyrn's Voice: Hm? Ain't it kinda cold?
Lyria's Voice: It is... Did something happen?
Lily: Vyrn... Lyria... (Captain)!
Erin: They're back. I'm going to get (Captain)—
Lily: No... I don't wanna hurt them...
Lily: It's... too late for me!
Erin: ...!
Erin: Lily! Wait!
Erin's attempts to stop Lily prove fruitless, her voice only pushing the glacial girl farther away.
Lily's small figure, still frozen in ice, flees and disappears from the ship.
A Place to Bloom: Scene 2
Erin chases after Lily through the nearby forest, but Lily, not wanting to hurt anyone, tries to contain her explosive cold, bringing harm to herself. Erin embraces her despairing sister, causing them both to freeze, and jokes that this way Lily won't be lonely. Lily, roused by love for her sister, then successfully suppresses the cold.
Lily runs far from the ship and wanders into a lonesome forest next to the town.
Wherever she goes, the cold emanating from her covers the ground and trees in a thick layer of frost.
Lily: Sob... Oh no, I didn't even realize I left the ship.
Lily: (Captain)'s spring might calm down the winter in me. Should I go back?
Lily: No.
Lily: I'm okay. I can do this! I handled the cold myself all this time.
Lily: Cause I'm a Crystalia. The cold's always been my friend. How could it ever scare me?
Lily: ...
Lily: I used to be fine by myself. When I searched for spring, I traveled all alone. But then...
Lily: (Captain) and them were with me, and we all helped each other through any trouble.
Lily: Huh? When I was alone, what did I do when something bad happened?
Lily: I just can't remember...
Lily: Oh no! I totally turned into a spoiled kid!
Lily: Sis gave me this nice grown-up dress, but I can't do anything on my own! I'm horrible!
Her distress spiraling into panic, Lily begins to lose control...
Erin: I found you! Lily!
Lily: Huh? Erin!
Erin: What were you thinking running off like that! You scared the flurries out of me!
Lily: I-I'm sorry! But I'm okay! I'll turn the cold down real soon!
Lily: I'm fine, so don't worry!
Lily is relieved to see Erin, but unable to worry about herself, manages only to apologize out of concern for her sister.
Lily: Uh, ummm, uh oh. H-hold on a sec! I'm almost there...
Erin: You don't have to rush. Just take your time.
Lily: But, but, but we have to go back. Everyone'll be worried.
Erin: All the more reason you need to calm down. Nothing will be solved fretting all by yourself. I'm here to think this through with you.
Lily: Erin... I'm so sorry to make you worried.
Lily: I'm still just a kid, huh. I'm even more of a kid than before.
Erin: What? That's not true...
Lily: Really, I don't know how to make it alone anymore.
Lily: I used to be okay though. I traveled all by myself! But now...
Erin: Hey, Lily... Is that really such a bad thing?
Lily: Huh?
Erin: You're right, you had to do everything yourself when you traveled alone. I bet it was really difficult.
Erin: But you have people you can depend on now.
Erin: Doesn't that mean you gained another place where you can be safe?
Lily: A place I can be safe, huh...
Lily: Yeah... You're right. (Captain) and them make me feel so safe. But still...
Lily: I can't stay with them forever.
Erin: ...!
Lily: Erin... I figured it out.
Erin: Figured what out?
Lily: When I thought about having to leave them someday, it hurt so bad and felt so cold—right here.
As Lily says this, she points to the middle of her chest, her face tight with grief.
Lily: I don't wanna leave them. We should be together forever.
Lily: That's impossible, I know, but... Sob...
Lily: I really am excited to go back to the Ice Crystal Palace too... But we can't have both.
Lily: Cold... It's so cold...
Erin: Lily!
The cold now bursts forth from Lily in an overflowing blast of wind.
Frost covers the area and freezes the trees to their roots, throwing Lily deeper into turmoil.
Erin: Lily! Please, look at me! You have to keep listening to me!
Lily: Ugh... Erin?
Erin: Good, keep looking at me! I'm right here with you!
Erin desperately calls out to Lily, but the gale of frigid wind prevents her from getting close.
Erin: Agh! Lily!
Lily: Erin... I'm hurting you...
Lily: Oh no, what do I do... I don't wanna hurt you!
Erin: Lily? Don't do anything foolish!
Lily: Please, cold... Be quiet!
Lily: You can't hurt Erin!
Erin: Huh? It's dying down?
Erin looks around as she feels the heavy winds begin to ease and sees the frost slowly fade from the surroundings. At first, she's relieved...
Erin: ...?
Lily: The cold... It calmed down. That's... good...
Erin: Lily!
The Crystalia girl's feet are frozen solid to the ground, rooting her in place.
Lily: Huh? I can't... move my legs...
Erin: Lily, no... Did you turn the cold inward?
Erin: No... You can't!
The chilling scene shakes Erin to her core as the cold energy goes out of control.
Erin: The ice... It's consuming you!
Erin: Lily! Don't worry, I'm coming!
Lily: I guess I just couldn't do it...
Lily: I was supposed to make everybody warm with spring. But in the end I'm gonna freeze.
Lily: Tia sure is gonna be disappointed... I bet Grueler and the others will be so sad...
Lily: But... if I can't stop it, I'll end up hurting them. I'd rather...
Erin: Lily!
Erin: What are you saying? It's not like you at all! You should be smiling and laughing like you always do!
Erin: And you say silly things that don't make any sense. This time you're making the least sense of all!
Lily: Erin... I'm sorry.
Erin: Stop apologizing! And stop making that sad face... I'm going to help you!
Erin: It's okay! Everything will be okay! You're not alone! I'm right here...
Erin: And I'll always be with you!
Erin approaches the icebound Lily and embraces her shivering body.
Lily: No! Get away!
Lily: If you stay here... you'll freeze too!
The bone-chilling cold creeps from Lily's legs to Erin's...
The two are moments away from becoming sororal ice sculptures.
Erin: Hehe, the power hiding in you really is amazing.
Lily: Erin! This isn't funny!
Seeing the light return to Lily's eyes, Erin lets out a big grin.
Erin: Thank goodness. That's the Lily I know.
Lily: What's good about this! We're about to become Crystalia ice pops!
Erin: It's okay... At least this way you won't be lonely, right?
Lily: Erin?
The strangely calm smile from Erin shocks Lily into a trembling shutter.
But panicked as she may be, Lily understands one thing clearly.
Lily: It's not okay! No, no, no! Not one bit!
Erin: Lily...
Lily: You told me to smile! But I love your smile too!
Lily: So... that's why I don't want you to smile even though you're sad inside!
Lily: I don't wanna make you sad! Not ever! Not ever...
Lily: I won't ever do that to you!
Erin: What? The cold is shrinking!
Lily: I thought I could make everything better by leaving the ship, so I ran away! But...
Lily: Now it's the same as last time! I tried to save everyone by getting as far away as I could, just like before!
Lily: But Lyria taught me I don't have to think like that!
Lily: So watch this, Lyria! I'm gonna show you how I've grown!
Lily: And me and Erin are gonna come back together!
Lily: I hope you're waiting for us with a big slice of pie!
Erin: ...
Lily: ...?
Erin: The ice... It's disappearing...
Lily: Wah! Look! Look, Erin! I can move my legs!
Erin: You did it... You pushed the cold back.
Lily: I did! I really did!
The Two: Thank goodness!
Yeeeah!
The young Crystalia sisters look at each other and, bodies drained of all strength, keep each other from falling as they slowly sink to the ground.
Where they sit, the forest bed is freed from all ice, not a trace of frost left.
Lily: I'm so glad we didn't freeze.
Erin: Me too.
Erin: But how did the ice stop? Do you know, Lily?
Lily: Hm... Hmmm?
Lily racks her mind pondering Erin's question. And Erin, seeing that familiar look of consternation, is finally able to breathe easy.
A Place to Bloom: Scene 3
(Captain) and the crew finally find Lily and Erin, and after hearing of their struggle, conjecture that Lily's heart plays a role in her control of the cold. Lily declares that she'll get strong enough for the day they must part ways, and the others resolve to help Lily prepare so she'll never lose her wonderful smile.
Vyrn: Heeey! Lily! Erin!
Lyria: Erin! Lily! Are you all right!
Lily: Ah! Vyrn! Lyria! And...
Lily: (Captain)!
- Are you hurt?
Choose: Are you hurt?Lily runs straight into the arms of the captain, who picks her up and gives her a long look.
Lily: I'm okay! What about you, Erin?
Erin: I'm think I'm fine too... The ice doesn't seem to have left any damage.
Vyrn: What ice! Just what in the whole heck of the skies happened!
First, (Captain) explains to the sisters that, having returned from a successful mission, there was a cold across the whole ship.
Feeling something strange in the chill air, the crew searched for Lily, but she couldn't be found anywhere aboard...
Since Erin was also gone, they believed the two got caught up in something dangerous and set off to find them.
Lily: Well...
Lily, with some help from Erin, tries her best to explain their chilling experience.
Vyrn: Wait, so you two were frozen till a minute ago?
Lyria: ...
Lily: But, but! I calmed the cold down, so it's okay now, no problem!
Lily: I'm sorry though... I caused so much trouble.
Lyria: Lily! Erin!
Lily: Whagyah! W-what? I'm really sorry!
Erin: We must've worried you, Lyria...
Lyria: I'm so glad you're both all right!
Lily: Hwaaa?
Erin: ...!
Lyria: Such a terrible thing happened while we were gone...
Lyria: But you both did an amazing job on your own!
Lily and Erin, grabbed tightly by Lyria, look at each other as their concerns melt away.
Vyrn: We're lucky nothin' happened to ya! But really, that huge runaway freeze? What was up with that?
Erin: I'm wondering that too. I felt it in the moment—this strong sensation that my body was freezing over...
Erin: I started blacking out. So I didn't really see what Lily did.
Lily: Ummm... I was sorta out of it too.
Lily: But, um, I think what happened was...
Lily: I don't wanna make you sad! Not ever! Not ever...
Lily: I won't ever do that to you!
Lily: The cold was so out of control, I thought we were goners...
Lily: But when I thought how I never wanna make Erin sad, I knew I could never let that happen.
Erin: Oh, Lily...
Lily: And, you know, I thought about the crew. About (Captain) and Lyria and Vyrn.
Lily: I didn't want anyone to get sad, or get angry at me.
Lyria: Poor Lily...
Lily: But...
Lily: I remembered 'cause everyone smiles at me.
Lily: (Captain) and everyone always smile at me when I'm talking, so I thought about that.
Lily: Even when I ask for more dessert, or bury myself in the blankets, or wake up late...
Lily: You're all there with a bright smile to look at. It helped so much when we were in trouble.
Lily: When I see your happy faces, I feel like I'm taking a nice afternoon nap in the sun, all warm and fuzzy.
Lily: I get so comfy, it makes me smile too.
Lily: So that's why I never want to see anyone feeling sad...
Lily: I want Erin and (Captain) and the whole crew to always laugh and smile.
Lily: You told me I could control the cold, that I could really become better.
Lily: When I thought about all that, I felt spring bloom inside me!
Erin: You felt it?
Lily: I sure did! The frrreezing winter in me changed into a warm spring filled with flowers.
Lily: Then the winter got real small, and the cold shrank into a tiny snowflake!
Lyria: Lily... You did so amazing!
The teary-eyed Lyria pats Lily gently, filling the springtime girl with joy.
Vyrn: So, like, spring has come at last, huh... I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I suppose it has somethin' to do with Lily's heart.
Vyrn: Don't ya think, (Captain)?
(Captain) ponders over Vyrn's pointed remark and finally gives a deep nod.
Lyria: Lily's...
Lily: Heart?
Thinking of leaving the crew puts Lily in great distress.
And in that distress, her control over the cold falls apart, causing greater panic as the freezing power runs wild.
With the thoughts of her friends in mind though, Lily revives the comfort she gains from being with them and overcomes her fear.
Erin: So being able to meet you all and become friends is what calmed Lily down, and that's how she could suppress the cold?
The captain nods in agreement.
Vyrn: Lily's always thinking about making everyone happy, so I'm not surprised she wasn't thinking enough about herself.
Lyria: That's true. She's always doing so much for others!
Erin: Yes... She does tend to ignore her own well-being.
Erin: But she was left with no choice...
Lily: Yeah... But! I'm okay now!
Lily: Now I really know myself! I know what's bad for me, I know what I can do!
Vyrn: Oh! Well, don't keep the juicy secret to yourself!
Lily: Okay! You see... I really didn't like thinking about leaving you all.
Lily: But I know I have to one day. And it got me a teensy bit scared.
Lily: Still... That won't be for a long time, right?
Lyria: Of course!
Lily: Hehehe, that's why I'm going to prepare myself for when that day finally comes.
Lily: I can't get scared imagining it and let the cold get out of control. I'm gonna make my heart stronger!
Erin: Yes... I see, that's perfect. You're so strong, Lily. And you thought it through all by yourself.
Vyrn: Hehe! Looks like you've got a new goal!
Lyria: You won't be alone! I'm here to help out—we'll do it together!
Lyria: Just thinking about you freezing yourself to save us... I don't ever want such a sad thing to happen again!
Lily: Hehehe... Thank you!
Vyrn: So, Lily, up to now you've been fightin' for your home, and for the Souval and Humans... For all sorts of reasons, right?
Vyrn: But now maybe you should have some time for yourself and take it easy.
Lily: Time for myself...
Lyria: Yeah, you should take your time and get stronger together with us.
Lyria: Then one day you'll become a sister yourself.
Lily: A sister...
Lily: I wonder if I can. I wanna be a great sister like Erin!
Erin: Like me?
Lily: Yeah! Oh, but it's no good to wonder. I've gotta try real hard!
- Take your time though.
Choose: Take your time though.Vyrn: Right! We dunno about stuff we can't help, like how long we'll all be together...
Vyrn: But I can't wait to see how strong you get, Lily!
Lyria: Yeah! And we'll help you all we can! Count on us for support!
Lily: Lyria... Vyrn...
Vyrn: And don't you worry about us, 'cause we're not worried at all. Right?
(Captain) nods once again.
Lily: Huh?
Vyrn: Come on, you handled the cold and kept it under control all by yourself. You're amazing!
Lily: Wow!
Vyrn: You're already gettin' stronger, so we'll be needin' your help more and more!
Lily: I'm getting... stronger.
Lily: Hehehe.
Lily's smile goes into full bloom, and Erin feels like it's been a very long time since she saw such elation in her best friend.
Erin: You're fantastic, Lily. You get brighter every day.
Lily: You think so? But just wait. I'm gonna get even brighter still!
Erin: Yes... And you went through so much today.
Erin: So I've got to become stronger too, strong enough to save you. And...
Erin: I want to be able to make you feel safe, just like (Captain) and the others do.
Lily: Huh?
Erin: I'm sorry I couldn't help you stop the cold... Thank you for protecting me.
Lily: Hm? What're you saying sorry for?
Erin: Well... You know, I...
Lily: You always protect me, Erin.
Lily: That's why I've got to protect you too. How could I not?
Erin: ...!
Lily: I feel so safe when I'm with you and the crew!
Lily: So I'm gonna get stronger and stronger, and I'll always keep my precious friends and home safe!
Erin: Lily...
Lily: Oh! You know...
Lily: Skyfaring with everyone is so much fun, it might be a while till we return to the Ice Crystal Palace!
Lily: Even Tia told me to have fun traveling.
Lily: But if she gets mad cause we take a really long time...
Lily: Would you help say sorry with me?
Erin: Heehee... It's a promise!
Though unable to avoid their inevitable parting, Lily can prepare herself for when that day comes.
She's not the only one who wants to protect her friends' precious smiles. The sisters will support each other along the way.
For now, she makes a wish for that day to be far, far away...
And when (Captain) comes and pats her head affectionately, she knows her wish will come true.
