Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy birthday. If my company could bring even a little splash of good to your day, then I'd be drowning in delight.
I'm not sure that came out right... Anyway, have a happy birthday.

2

Happy birthday to you, (Captain). Since we're together every day, it's hard to see how you've changed.
But I know that both you and I will change as each year passes, (Captain).
Even so, my trust in you will never change.
So I'll keep trying my hardest so that your trust in me will never change either.
Ah, I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I said that very well...
But, anyway, let's make this next year a good one.

3

Today's your birthday, huh, (Captain)? Happy birthday to you.
I wasn't always able to swim like I do now, you know. When I was a kid, I got tired easily and couldn't swim long distances.
But all the grown-ups told me that if I keep at it, then I'd be able to do it... I believed them and practiced until I finally achieved it.
Sorry... Why am I talking about this anyway...
Oh... I mean, you have a dream too, don't you?
You've been steadily working at it, believing that it'll come true and you'll make it one day. You're growing closer to it step by step.
I can't put it into words very well... But do you get what I'm trying to say?
Good... I'm glad to hear it.
(Captain), your dreams will surely come true someday. I know because I believe in them too.

4

I'm so happy I get to celebrate your birthday this year too.
While I'm at it... I wanna thank you for another great year of adventuring.
Was it weird to say that out of the blue? It's just hard to find the right time, you know? But I wanted to express my gratitude.
People used to laugh at my dream of swimming in the ocean at the bottom of the skies...
But not you, (Captain). You took my dream seriously.
Not only that. You're trying to get to the end of the skies...
And when I see you striving toward that goal, it gives me strength. It's like you're telling me it's okay not to abandon my dream either.
Sorry. I meant to thank you and instead I'm just going on about my own stuff. But, um...
I'll be with you all the way to the end of the sky. I want to be there for you just the way you've been there for me.
And I'd love it if we could travel together to the bottom of the skies... That is, if you want to.
No matter how many years it takes, (Captain), let's make our dreams come true.

5

Happy birthday, (Captain). We went to a lot of different places this year too, didn't we? It was so much fun.
What do you mean it's a detour? 'Cause we still haven't reached the bottom of the sky? No way.
Having you here, spending your time with me and having fun without laughing at my dream...
And seeing you chase your dream as well... All of this is very precious to me.
One day, when the both of us reach our destinations, we might have to say goodbye and go on our individual journeys.
If that happens, let's promise to journey together again someday, even if we're all old and wrinkly by then.
Huh? That's fast-forwarding too much?
Yeah. Haha, you're right.
We don't know what'll happen tomorrow... but I hope I can wish you happy birthday again someday.

1

Happy New Year! Be sure not to waste this important holiday.
The weather might be chilly, but don't stay cooped up inside. Try and take a walk. It'll warm you up!

2

If you relax all through the holiday, you might feel sluggish after the holiday's over.
That's what you should try moving around a little. Even food tastes better after some exercise!
Come on! Let's take a little stroll outside! It'll warm you up.
Why don't you wear something light in case you break a sweat? Like a cardigan or something.
And don't forget, you could catch a cold if you don't stay active.
All right! Shall we head out then for a walk?

3

Huff, huff, huff, huff...
Happy New Year, (Captain)... Me? Well, the morning air felt so fresh, so I went and had a jog.
The weather's great today... You should try some exercise too.
By the way, I saw a crowd of people headed up the thousand-stair path near the mountain while I was out.
They say that if you climb all one thousand steps and make a wish at the top, then it'll come true.
You wanna check it out? Yeah, I figured you'd say that when I told you.
But climbing a thousand steps can be hard on your body, so let's take our time and not rush.
Go get changed and wait for me back here. I'll go make some hot tea to bring along to keep ourselves warm.

4

Happy New Year. This is a great opportunity for us to make sure we're all in good health.
To that end proper diet and exercise are key.
So I'm gonna go out for a run. There's nothing better than setting and maintaining good habits from the start of a new year.
Hm, you thought I'd say that? You're ready to go running too because you saw my annual invite from a mile away?
Good, both of us are prepped then. Let's get going.
Since we're doing this, we might as well follow up with some intense bodyweight exercises after the run.
To another year of fantastic health, (Captain)!

5

(Captain)... (Captain)! Come on, wake up. You planning on sleeping all day?
Let's go running. If you wanna stay fit all year, you have to start working for it from the get-go.
What? It's boring if all we're doing is running? Well, I guess...
Then... How about this? Let's wake everyone else up and run as a big group.
I mean, people feel connected when they're all doing the same thing, right? So it'd be like setting a resolution to stay traveling buddies.
Sounds like fun? All right! Then get up! I'll go gather the crew while you're changing. See you in a bit.
Oh wait. Almost forgot. Happy New Years, (Captain).
Also... Don't go back to sleep.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Happy Valentine's! Hm? Sweets? I don't hate them. After all, sugar's important to a balanced diet.
You're giving me chocolate? Really? Thank you! I'll be sure to eat every last bite.

2

Hm? Is this... chocolate?
...!
Thank you. No, I don't mind sweet chocolate. I'm very grateful!
Let's see, in exchange... Oh? Not now?
Okay, but I promise I'll give you something in return. I want to... So just be patient!
Pinky promise. Cross my heart and hope to... Well, I'm not breaking it so that's enough!

3

You're giving me chocolate again this year? Thank you. I'm glad!
Chocolate is supposed to be good for your health. It helps prevent illness and recover from exhaustion.
But to get those effects, you shouldn't eat a lot at once. I heard you should have it in small portions.
So... I'll divide this up so I can eat some later.
Thank-you gifts are given next month, huh? Is there anything you want? Maybe something good for your body?
Okay, then leave it to me. I'll be sure to find something good for you!

4

Everything okay, (Captain)? What did you call me out here for?
A gift for me? Ah, right. Today's Valentine's. Thank you.
They look delicious. No, more like they're bound to be delicious. I know from tasting these every year.
Uh-oh, I'm feeling a sugar craving coming on. This puts me in the danger zone—wouldn't wanna finish these all in one go.
Too much chocolate leads to a nosebleed. Didn't you know that?
You'll watch to make sure I don't eat too much at once?
Thanks, that'll definitely help.
But why don't we eat together then? That way, if we end up overindulging, we can just exercise it off together.
From enjoying treats to exercise, it's always more fun done with someone else.
But you, (Captain), you'd be a wonderful partner for any activity.

5

What? (Captain)? Yeah, I'm done with my sprints for today. Did something happen?
Oh. For me? Hey, were you waiting this entire time just to give this to me?
!
Thank you, (Captain). I'm really... really happy.
So you were waiting for me to come home, huh? I dunno why, but that kinda puts me on cloud nine.
Oh... Uhh, sorry. I'm kinda sweaty, huh? Lemme take a shower real quick. Give me just a sec.
Then I wanna thank you again. That sound cool? Great. Thanks!

1

Happy White Day! Do you like sweet treats?
I see... Then this is for you. Sugar is good for you in moderation, you know.
You're worried about putting on weight? Don't be silly. Just get some exercise! How about going for a run right now?

2

Oh, (Captain)! Wait! Whoa!
Sorry! And thanks... So I got you a gift for White Day, you see...
But I don't know which one you'd like. Could you just pick your favorite from these?
Hm? Sure, you could pick them all if you want. But if you eat all this, then you'd better exercise too.
Huh? What'll happen to the one you don't choose? I was going to eat it myself. What about it?
Got it. Then let's split it all. And after you've eaten it, let's go for a workout together, (Captain)!

3

Today is White Day, right? I have a thank-you gift for Valentine's day. Go on and take it.
You said you wanted something good for your body, so I tried looking for organic snack foods. Do you want to try these? Okay, go ahead!
Oh yeah? It tastes good? There were lots of flavors, so I tried them all and picked this one. I guess it was worth the trouble!
I bought a lot, but don't eat them all at once. You shouldn't have too much sugar.
I guess today's fun is over now...
Hm? It's so good that you can't stop eating them? I see... Well, I'm happy you like them at least!
Okay, I understand. Then if you overeat, we'll just do some exercise. So eat all you like!

4

(Captain), thanks for coming out here. Sorry for the short notice.
I get kind of bashful around others. I mean, it is White Day after all...
This here's to show my appreciation for your Valentine's goodies.
I was wondering if you'd like to feast on these together, like we did last month.
Yeah, I bought some for myself too. Actually, it's more like I couldn't decide what to buy, so I ended up buying a little of everything.
I figured the two of us could finish it all though. If you're up for it, that is.
You are? Good, I'll get some tea ready.
Just so you know, I didn't buy this all on purpose. But if it means I get to enjoy tea with you, then I'm glad I did.

5

Umm... Hey, (Captain). You got a second?
Here, this is for you. But, you know, I don't like the entire idea of White Day's presents being some kind of thank-you gift. Like you're forced to give them or something.
Well, it implies that I can't like anyone unless they say they like me first. Uhh... It takes away my free will, in a way.
Sorry. I'm not making any sense. Anyways, what I wanted to say is... Well, I like you, (Captain).
I bought you this present because I like you. Yeah, it's a thank-you gift, but that's not all it is. I just wanted you to know that.
Thank you. It really means a lot to me—you accepting my present and listening to me like this.
I guess communication really is important. So, you know what? I'll tell you as many times as it takes. I really like you, (Captain).
And I want you to like me back. So I will never ever give up on you.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Happy Halloween! Wear a costume? Me?
Well, I guess I could go as a fish. Is that no good?
All right, how about a crab? Or is a shellfish better?

2

Tricks... tricks... Hmm...
Maybe I could try dissolving some fun colors into the pool for the water polo game today.
Cleanup's gonna be a pain though.
What do you think, (Captain)? Maybe I don't need to bother with tricks at all?
Hm. But it's Halloween. Everyone's going to get really excited when they see it, don't you think?
They'll be perfectly happy just getting candy? You're probably right. Candy it is!

3

I went shopping for candy to pass out, but I was surprised at all the crazy colors it comes in.
So I tried looking into it to see if there are any dangerous ingredients, but they're mostly plants and beetle powder...
But just because it's plants and bugs doesn't meant it's safe. There are plenty of poisonous ones out there, you know!
As it turns out, the shop I went to uses safe ingredients in their time-tested recipe before adding coloring to their candies. So they're safe to give out.
I'm a worrywart? No way... I just don't want to make a mistake and give the kids something they shouldn't have...
But all this talk is keeping us from the party. This candy can't pass out itself! Let's go, (Captain).

4

Um, (Captain)? There's something I want to talk to you about.
I can't think what I should do for Halloween.
I just can't bring myself to play a trick on anyone. What if I really upset them?
Maybe it would be better if I let someone else prank me. (Captain), do you want to try?
It's hard to prank someone who's expecting it? Yeah, I guess you're right.
Yeesh... Halloween is tough.
Ah.
Can I just tag along with you today, (Captain)?
I'd like to be your Halloween apprentice. Learn the trick-or-treats of the trade.
I'll make sure not to get underfoot... What do you say?
Really? I can? Thank you!
Let's head into town then. I'm counting on you to teach me your spooky ways.

5

T-trick or treat...
Huh? I'm being too hesitant? Hmm... I guess I am...
You see, I was thinking that since it's Halloween, I should think of a trick to play on people...
But I got worried thinking about how the trick might scare them too much... It's hard. Hmm, I wonder what kind of trick would be good...
Oh, how about something like this?
I can dress up as a ghost that hands out candy. Then people might be a little surprised, but also happy that they get treats.
How does that sound?
Yeah? All right! Then I'll go get the candy and costume ready!
You can be the first person that gets candy from me. I'll be right back!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Happy holidays. I bet even Santa Claus can't make it to the ends of the sky.
Or can he?
It would be so awesome if he could!

2

Do you think Santa's sleigh could reach the bottom of the sky?
If I pleaded with him enough, I wonder if he'd take me there...
Then again, maybe he's too busy.
I should've asked when I was a kid. Instead of a present, I should've asked for a sleigh ride.
Ah... But maybe it's for the best.
If I'd asked, I might never have met you and the crew, (Captain). Yeah, I'm glad I met you instead!

3

Mm... It really is pretty...
Hm? (Captain)... Are you curious about this book of paintings?
I got it when I was a little kid. Do you wanna take a look?
Supposedly this painting is by an artist who was fascinated with the bottom of the sky, so she drew what she imagined it'd be like.
I bet she was a lot like me... Probably read fairy tales and thought a lot about a huge sea far beneath the clouds...
I wanted to meet her one day and ask her all sorts of things... But I heard she passed away a long time ago.
Looking at this picture, I wonder if Santa Claus will get to see a sight like this tonight! If he does, he sure is lucky...

4

What a quiet night it is... Then again, tonight is that special night.
Oh, of course. Because I brought you away from the party.
Hm, sorry about that. I just wanted to talk to you alone.
Especially after seeing how pretty it was outside from the window.
Hm, what I wanted to talk about? Well, I didn't exactly have something in mind.
But I was thinking that even at the bottom of the skies, they might be celebrating the festivities the same way we are... How strange that'd be...
Is it as quiet down there as it is here now, or is it always quiet in the Crimson Horizon?
The bottom of the skies is all I talk about? Well, it's always something I dreamed of as a kid.
I'd like to go there with you someday if you're up for it.
I don't know how many winter holidays will come before then, but I'm sure the time will come eventually...

5

I wonder if snow falls at the bottom of the sky... What do you think, (Captain)?
Be nice if it did? Yeah. You're right. I think so too.
Heh-heh. You always know what to say. Makes me kinda happy.
But, man... I feel like, every winter, all I do is talk to you about the world under the clouds.
Yeah... You have a point. I guess it's just because the thing I want most is to reach the bottom of the sky.
Guess I'm still dreaming, just like a kid. I really haven't changed at all.
And thanks for never telling me I had to change... (Captain).
One day, let's travel to the bottom of the sky and swim in that huge ocean together... I'd like that a lot.

Dreaming of an Ocean

(Captain) and crew travel through Pandemonium and get their first glimpse at the bottom of the sky. What they find there is a barren wasteland—the very opposite of the ocean that Joel had dreamed of. Later, the crew decides to head to Auguste for their annual summer vacation, while Joel declares his intention to go home. (Captain) begins to fear that Joel's visit to his family will result in a permanent departure from the crew, as the lifeguard now has no dream to chase after.

Born and raised in a seaside town in Auguste, Joel spent his days working as a lifeguard on the beach.
He grew up listening to legends of an endless ocean at the bottom of the sky—waters uncharted that he dreamed of swimming in.
Joel not in crew

Joel: I want to get to the bottom of the sky, but I don't know how to do it.
Joel: Your aim is the sky's edge, but you'll be stopping at various locations along the way, correct?
Joel: While we journey, I can look for a way down. That's why I'd like to go with you.
After a brief moment of consideration, (Captain) accepts his request, and Joel becomes a member of the crew.
But not all dreams come true.
Joel: ...
Joel: So this is the bottom of the sky...
At the end of their foray into Pandemonium, the crew find themselves staring out over the Crimson Horizon.
Joel grows quiet as he takes in the dry and desolate wasteland stretching as far as the eye can see.
Joel: ...
Vyrn: Hey, uh... You okay there, Joel?
Joel: Huh? Why do you ask?
Vyrn: I mean... Your dream was to swim at the bottom of the sky, right? But there's no ocean here...
Joel: Well... I'll admit, I'm kind of shocked. There really is nothing but red. I wonder why...
Joel: Looks like blood right before it's dried.
Lyria: I-it's a lot scarier when you put it that way...
Joel: Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you.
Joel: But... There's incredible energy swirling around down there. It is kind of unsettling.
Joel continues to scrutinize their surroundings, before his eyes suddenly light up. Curious, (Captain) asks what he is thinking about.
Joel: I feel like I've figured out why Auguste has all those stories—about an endless ocean at the bottom of the sky.
Vyrn: You have? What'd you come up with?
Joel: Remember what Io said? About Echidna, the primal beast bound to Bestia Island.
Joel: She was created by the Astrals to harvest power from the Otherworld... or, in other words, the Crimson Horizon.
Vyrn: Hmm... I'm not seein' how that's got anything to do with this though.
Joel: Oh. I've really got to work on my explanations. Let's see...
Joel: On Auguste, we call the ocean the "Mother of Life."
Joel: It's filled with the salt and water we need to survive, and it's home to many creatures.
Lyria: The Mother... Oh! Echidna's the primal beast of motherhood!
Joel: Exactly. Echidna is the mother of the Crimson Horizon.
Joel: But as the tale traveled through time and space, it warped. Things changed or were forgotten, and the name Echidna probably faded from the story.
Joel: So in Auguste, the mother of the Crimson Horizon became the Mother of Life. That's why we believe an ocean waits at the bottom of the sky.
Joel: It happens a lot. As skydoms are crossed or as generations pass, legends shift.
Joel: The same thing happened with Ebisu, the primal beast of blessings. In Auguste, that name's no more than a good luck charm—something to name your hammer or saw after.
Lyria: Wow... There's so much lore!
Joel: Yeah. I'm willing to bet whatever legends made it out of Auguste are completely different now.
Vyrn: I heard all the super, super old stories are lost now. 'Cause of the Astral invasion.
Lyria: Hehe. It's all so dramatic. How exciting!
Joel: Yeah. Might be fun to look into.
Joel: Oh... Sorry, didn't mean to drone on. We should head back to the ship—it's not safe around here.
Vyrn: Sounds good to me! Don't wanna run into more of those Otherworld creeps.
(Captain) agrees, and the group prepares their weapons for the journey back.
Joel: ...
With one last look at the bottom of the sky, Joel follows after (Captain).
Hours pass, and night falls. (Captain) stands alone on the deck, restless.
Lyria: (Captain), is something wrong? It's almost time to turn in for the day.
Lyria: You're worried about Joel? Oh, right... The truth about the bottom of the sky was pretty shocking...
Lyria: He really, really wanted to swim in that endless ocean...
Lyria: But it's almost summer! We should bring everyone to Auguste again!
Lyria: Maybe a trip back home would cheer Joel up...
Lyria has only half-understood the captain's mood. (Captain) is indeed worried about Joel's dampened spirits.
But heavier still is the knowledge that he no longer has a reason to stay with the crew. The thought of parting with a treasured friend does not sit well with the captain.
Joel: ...
Vyrn: This one's comin' with us to Auguste... And this one...
Vyrn: Whoa!
Joel: ...!
Joel: Vyrn, I'm so sorry!
Vyrn: It's cool! I shoulda been payin' more attention, but I was too focused on checking the list...
Joel: The list? Oh, right, it's almost time for summer vacation. You keeping track of who's coming?
Vyrn: Yep! Everyone's on board for another trip to Auguste, by the way!
Joel: Auguste's insanely busy around this time of year. You should book an inn before they run out of space.
Vyrn: Yeah, that's why we've got the list. Some people wanna visit home before joinin' us on Auguste, y'know? Gotta check who's doin' what.
Joel: It has to be tough doing that by yourself. Let me help.
Vyrn: You sure? I'd 'preciate it, but it's a lotta work...
Joel: Don't worry about it. I'm not busy right now anyway.
Vyrn: Thanks! I owe ya one! If you don't mind, could ya take this list and check in with everyone on it?
Joel: All right.
Joel takes the proffered list and begins to seek out his fellow crew members aboard the Grandcypher.
Joel: I'll let the captain know you and Volenna will be heading directly to Auguste.
Sara: Okay! Thank you, Joel! Um... Before you go, can I ask you something?
Joel: Sure. What's up? Is this a question about Auguste?
Sara: Yes... I was wondering if you knew any fun places that me and Kaz could go to together.
Joel: With Kaz? Hmm...
Joel: Since he's a local, he might not go to tourist areas.
Joel: Why don't you try taking him to the ancient lighthouse? They've remodeled it and turned the inside into a museum.
Sara: A museum! That does sound really nice.
Joel: I guarantee that it is. You can stare giant marine skeletons in the eye sockets. Or, if you're looking for something more beautiful, check out the halite room.
Sara: Thank you so much! I'll see if Volenna and Jin want to visit the museum too.
Joel: All right. I hope you enjoy yourselves.
Sara: Me too! I'm really looking forward to it.
Joel: Let's see... Sara and Volenna... Anna and Nightmare... Danua, and Hansel and Gretel... They're all going straight to Auguste.
Joel: The others are making pit stops... And that's everyone I had to check in with.
Joel: Vyrn's probably still making his rounds. Be better if I handed this off to (Captain).
Decision made, Joel heads for the captain's room.
Joel: (Captain). I met with some of the crew and figured out who's going directly to Auguste.
Joel: Vyrn's taking care of the rest... (Captain)?
Joel: You've got a strange look on your face. Does your head hurt?
Joel places a hand upon (Captain)'s forehead, concerned about the possibility of a fever.
Joel: Temperature's normal... Does it ache anywhere? Are you having a hard time breathing?
Before Joel can fret any further, (Captain) takes a deep breath and speaks.
  1. Are you going home?

Choose: Are you going home?
Joel: What?
Joel: Oh... 'Cause we're heading to Auguste, right? Yeah. Thought I'd swing by.
Joel: I already made it to the bottom of the sky... And I haven't seen my family in a while.
Realizing Joel really does intend to leave, (Captain)'s shoulders sag.
Joel: Captain, you're not looking too good. Go figure. We've been stuck in Pandemonium this whole time.
Joel: It's worn you down. You need rest now. Come on, go lay down.
Joel: Can you make it to your bed? Here, you can lean on my shoulder... Actually, I should just carry you there.
Gran is the Main Character

Joel: Don't worry. I've got you. You feel light as a feather.
Djeeta is the Main Character

Joel: Up you go.
Joel: It's cool. You weigh practically nothing. To be honest, you should consider putting on some weight.
Joel: Was I being rude? Oh... Sorry. Just worrying about your health.
Joel tucks (Captain) into bed, taking care to wrap the blankets snugly.
Joel: Work and rest come as a set. If you keep pushing ahead without breaks, your body will give out.
Joel: Do you want to be stuck inside all summer? When the rest of the crew's out catching some rays? No? Then go to sleep.
Joel: I'll deal with any work that Vyrn brings in, okay? So relax.
Despite Joel's kind words, worry and anxiety fill (Captain)'s heart at the thought of him returning home.
Little rest is had for the remainder of time (Captain) lies in bed.

King of the Skies' Seas

After the crew arrives in Auguste, Joel splits off to travel to his hometown. (Captain), in low spirits, joins Lyria, Anna, and Sara on a tour boat adventure. The girls do their best to cheer the captain up, and before long, the group is enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, a pair of rising sunfish interrupt the peace, and the crew is forced to defend the boat.

After they find there is no ocean at the bottom of the sky, (Captain) worries Joel will leave the crew as he has lost his reason for traveling with them.
Those fears are solidified when Joel declares that he will go home during the crew's annual summer vacation.
Joel: Make sure you wake up on time every day, (Captain). And don't stay up too late.
Joel: I know it's tempting since you'll be on vacation, But ignore your bio clock, and your body will pay the price. You have to be fully rested if you want the energy to play hard.
Joel: Hey, are you listening?
(Captain) manages a slow nod at what might be the last lecture Joel gives on the Grandcypher.
Joel: Good. It's just... I'd be devastated if anything happened to you.
Joel: Well, I best be on my way—
Anna: (Captain)... Joel... Hello.
Joel: Anna and Nightmare! Guess you're done changing. Are you going to ride the tour boat now?
Anna: Yeah. Thanks for letting us know that we'd get splashed. We were about to go in our regular clothes.
Anna: Sara's joining us as well, since she's not meeting with Kaz until tomorrow.
Nightmare: (Captain), you should come too! Lyria's going to be there! Let's ride that tour boat!
(Captain) hesitates to agree, wishing to see Joel off properly.
Joel: (Captain), go with them.
Joel: You're a captain. You should be making new memories with your crew. And, well... I'm leaving soon.
Anna: Oh... Your hometown is in Auguste, isn't it?
Joel: Yeah, that's where I'm headed to. See you, (Captain).
With a carefree wave, Joel departs from the beach house.
Nightmare: Come on! Tour boat! Let's go!
Nightmare grabs onto (Captain)'s sleeve. Faced with no choice, (Captain) follows Anna to where Lyria and Sara are waiting.
Lyria: Mmm! The breeze feels amazing!
Anna: It is pretty nice... But...
While Lyria, Anna, and Sara are gathered excitedly at the edge of the boat, (Captain) stands silently off to the side. The three girls sneak concerned looks at their sullen captain.
Sara: (Captain) doesn't seem very happy... Do you think something bad happened?
Anna: Hmm... Maybe it's because Joel had to go home... and (Captain)'s feeling lonely?
Gran is the Main Character

Anna: There aren't a lot of boys his age in the crew, after all.
Lyria: Yeah... Joel always looks after us, so it's kind of lonely without him around...
Lyria: But it's not every day that we get to ride on a tour boat, so we should all make the most of it!
Anna: Yeah... And to do that, we have to cheer (Captain) up first.
The three girls move to join (Captain) and begin to point out the sights passing by the boat.
Sara: Oh... That white line in the water! That's a bonito trail, right?
Lyria: I think so!
Oh! Those shadows in the water... They might be migrating sea urkin!
Anna: We've sure learned a lot about the marine life in Auguste, haven't we?
Nightmare: Sheesh... No surprise after all the run-ins we had!
Nightmare's quip about their past summer adventures draws a smile from (Captain).
Anna: Eep! Wh-what just made that huge spray?
Sailor: That's what we call a whale. They love to spray seawater around! Watch!
Lyria: Wow... All the droplets made a rainbow!
Sara: Look, (Captain)! Isn't it so pretty?
Transfixed by the array of enchanting colors, (Captain) joins the others in their excitement.
The gloomy air clears as (Captain) becomes absorbed in the natural scenery, but the cheer is quickly interrupted.
Sara: Eep! Wh-what just happened?
Lyria: L-look!
Rising Sunfish: ...!
Anna: A rising sunfish? W-wait. There's another one! Are they fighting?
Sara: From what I remember, sunfish are very territorial...
(Captain) watches the sunfish carefully, having been sunk by the sea creatures once before and not wishing to repeat the experience.
Sailor: Hey, you folks! Get inside the boat! We're gonna deal with these sunfish, so you best take cover!
Lyria: Are you sure? Two sunfish seems like an awful lot for one crew...
(Captain) offers the group's help, intent on dealing with the situation as quickly as possible.
Sailor: You all are skyfarers? Well, if you've got firepower to lend, we aren't in a position to refuse!
Anna: We'll be fine! We've handled sunfish before...
Sara: Me and Graphos are ready! We'll draw it away from the boat.
(Captain) nods at Sara. The crew closes in on one fish, leaving the other to the sailors.
Rising Sunfish: ...!

King of the Skies' Seas: Scene 2

The crew successfully drives one sunfish away, but the victory is short lived as (Captain) is dragged beneath the waves. Before the situation turns dire, Joel swoops in and saves the captain. Relieved to see that Joel had only gone home for a quick visit and not abandoned the crew, (Captain) admits as much to the shocked lifeguard. Joel, hurt at the revelation, is speechless.

Rising Sunfish: ...!
Lyria: It's swimming away!
Sara: Thank goodness... Do you think the sailors are all right?
Nightmare: Let's give them a hand!
The group hastens to where the sailors are keeping the other sunfish at bay.
Lyria: Eek!
Sara: Lyria!
The second Lyria takes a step forward, the boat lurches to one side and sends her flying to the edge of the deck.
Lyria: (Captain)!
Diving forward, (Captain) yanks Lyria back, but the momentum carries the captain overboard instead.
Anna: Wh-what do we do! (Captain)'s fallen off!
(Captain) swims to the surface and makes for the boat. But before the captain can climb back on, a new trouble rears its ugly head.
Monster: ...!
Anna: Oh no... I think the rampaging sunfish angered all the nearby monsters!
Sara: (Captain), swim away!
(Captain) shoots away, but the aquatic monster moves faster.
Monster: ...!
With its tentacles firmly around (Captain)'s body, the monster drags the captain toward the bottom of the ocean.
Lyria: Ahhh! It's got (Captain)!
Sara: What do we do? I can't take Graphos into the water!
Anna: Th-there has to be something...
Monster: ...!
???: ...
Lyria: Ah! Is that...
Joel: ...
Sara: Joel!
Joel: Give us space! I have to get the water out of (Captain)'s lungs!
Anna: O-okay!
Joel: Breathing's weak... But I'm getting some respiratory murmur... Sounds like we won't need CPR.
Joel holds (Captain)'s mouth open, letting the water flow out.
Joel: (Captain), can you hear me?
Anna: Oh... (Captain)'s eyes are opening! Th-thank goodness...
Taking in the captain's unfocused gaze, Joel calmly assesses what to do next.
Joel: Weakness... Dizziness... Looks like decompression sickness. Don't think too much water got into your system though.
Joel: The symptoms should pass soon, but...
After (Captain)'s breathing stabilizes, Joel picks the captain up in his arms.
Joel: We need to keep (Captain) warm. Should be blankets on the boat somewhere...
Sara: I'll go find them!
Lyria: Sniff... I'm really glad everything turned out okay... Thank you so much, Joel.
Anna: I'm confused though... Weren't you supposed to be at home?
Joel: I was. But I just dropped in to say hi..
Joel: It's not like I was gone for a long time. I mean, we visit Auguste every year.
Joel: And, well, (Captain)'s been out of it lately. So I rushed back because I was worried.
The captain stirs, still wrapped in Joel's warm arms.
Lyria: (Captain)! You shouldn't move around yet!
Joel: She's right. Just relax.
What was that?
Joel: Huh?
Joel: You thought I quit the crew and went home... for good?
Joel: What... are you saying? Are you still not fully awake?
Confused, Joel listens to all of (Captain)'s concerns.
Joel: You were worried I was going to leave because we reached the bottom of the sky and didn't find what I was searching for...
Anna: So that's why you looked so down...
Joel: But I never said a single word about walking away.
Lyria: That's true. Even if Joel wanted to leave, he would have spoken to us first.
Joel: And anyway, why would I stop journeying with you?
Joel: There are still oceans in other skydoms I dream of swimming in. And sure, we saw the bottom of the sky, but we haven't set foot in it.
Joel: An ocean might still be waiting somewhere down there. Am I wrong, (Captain)?
Joel's voice is cold. With a shock, the captain realizes how cruel it was to believe Joel would just disappear.
Joel: You really think I'm the sort of guy that would abandon the crew? Without a word?
Joel: I can't believe you...
Anna: I-I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. We just saw the Crimson Horizon, and then you started talking about going home, so...
Joel: Did you forget I visit my family every year?
(Captain) looks away instead of answering.
Anna: Well... It's hard to ask about something if you're afraid of the answer, right? I know what that's like...
Joel: ...
Sara: I've got the blankets! Oh! I'm glad you're awake, (Captain).
Sara: Um... Joel? You look kind of angry...
Joel: ...
Joel: Thanks, Sara. Lyria, I'll leave the rest to you.
Lyria: O-okay!
Wrapping (Captain) in the blanket, Joel sets the captain down by Lyria.
Though relieved that Joel won't be leaving the crew, (Captain) can do nothing but watch him silently walk away.

King of the Skies' Seas: Scene 3

Later in the evening, Joel takes (Captain) for a walk on the beach. They sit down on a rock and search for seven shooting stars in the sky. Upon spotting the seventh one, Joel suddenly stands and exclaims his wish to journey with (Captain) until the end of time. With a new dream ahead of the swimmer, (Captain) realizes that Joel will continue to be an invaluable member of the crew no matter what changes lie ahead.

Though (Captain) appears to be healthy, the sailors arrange for a doctor's appointment just in case and bring the crew back to shore.
Joel: The doctor said we should keep an eye out for half a day, but... I'm glad she didn't find anything to be concerned about.
Anna: She was really impressed... Said you did all the right things.
Lyria: Take it easy for today, okay, (Captain)?
With a nod, (Captain) turns to speak to Joel.
Joel: ...
But Joel turns his head away.
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria... Did something happen between those two?
Vyrn: They've been real quiet this whole time. And Joel's lookin' like he sucked on a lemon or something.
Lyria: Ahaha... Well, Joel can't leave, because he has to make sure (Captain)'s okay.
Lyria: But he's... um, not quite mad... pouting, I guess? Over that misunderstanding.
Vyrn: Say what? That's it? They should just apologize and get this thing over with.
Hearing Vyrn, (Captain) glances over at Joel.
Joel: ...
Joel: Sigh...
Joel: (Captain). Can I ask a favor?
Joel: And afterwards... we'll be cool again. All right?
(Captain) accepts without hesitation, happy that Joel took the first step towards forgiveness.
That night, Joel brings (Captain) to the beach for a stroll.
Joel: Let's walk to those rocks over there. Follow me.
With the moon over their heads and the tide at their feet, the two quietly proceed.
Joel: (Captain).
Joel: When you said you thought I was leaving... it hurt.
Joel: It hurt knowing that you saw me as someone who'd desert you. Just like that.
Joel: But it was probably my fault.
Joel: I should've told you how much I respect you... How much you mean to me...
Joel: No wonder you didn't trust me.
Before (Captain) can apologize and tell Joel just how much he's trusted, the two reach their destination.
Joel: Clear skies tonight... Perfect.
Joel: So, about that favor... I want to spot seven shooting stars. Together.
Joel: Let's sit on this rock.
Joel climbs the boulder first, then helps (Captain) onto it.
Joel: I'll watch the right side. You take the left.
Joel: Oh... One just flew by.
The pair gaze at the twinkling night sky, searching for trails of light.
Joel: They're pretty rare, huh?
Joel: ...!
There goes another one!
Time passes, and eventually they count six shooting stars. And right as (Captain) sees the seventh one, Joel jumps to his feet.
Joel: ...!
Joel: I wish to journey with (Captain) forever and ever!
Joel's words echo in the night as the star fades into the dark sky.
Joel: Phew...
Joel: I think I made it. Probably. Definitely.
Joel: Hm? Why do you look so surprised?
Joel: Oh, did I not tell you?
The captain nods, and Joel forms a somewhat puzzled expression.
Joel: Sorry. I need to learn to communicate properly.
Joel: My grandmother once told me that if I stood on this rock and wished on the seventh shooting star I found, my wish would come true.
Joel: She did the same thing, you know—many, many years ago, with my grandfather. And her wish came true.
Joel: That's why I wanted to look for shooting stars with you.
Joel: Before, I wished to swim in a big ocean at the bottom of the sky.
Joel: But now... things are different. I mean, I still want to swim in that ocean and explore the depths of the sky.
Joel: I want to see sights I never could've dreamed of if I was stuck in Auguste my whole life. But more than anything...
Joel: I want to see them with you.
Joel: (Captain)... I'm not a lifeguard anymore.
Joel: I'm a skyfarer—a member of your crew.
Joel: And that's that.
After a moment of stunned silence, (Captain) agrees with a sunny smile.
Now the captain knows that though their dreams and wishes may change with time, their bond will always remain strong.
