Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Opening
The people of the village are gathered in front of a giant faintly glowing temple bell with pained expressions on their faces. They have already reached their limit, and entrust a mission to a young man who is sent away. With great reluctance, the young man sets off.
The people of the village are gathered in front of a giant, faintly glowing temple bell. The tension in the air is palpable.
With beads of sweat forming on their foreheads, they continue their vigil over the bell.
???: DONG! DONG!
Villager: (Gulp) I'm at my limit, I can't take any more!
The villagers, whose faces contort with anguish, entrust their hopes to a reluctant youth.
Villager: Quickly, you have to find her!
Young Man: Huh, but?
???: DONG! DONG!
Villager: Hurry! If it continues like this, everybody is going to collapse!
Young Man: I understand.
Villager: We're counting on you…
Young Man: (…I… I hope everyone will be all right…)
The young man who has been tasked with a mission leaves the shrine, albeit with great reluctance.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part One - Episode 1
As the crew walks through the town Anila, dressed in an outfit picked out by (Captain), spots a famous food stall. As they wait in line for the food, a man bumps into Anila, and steals her coin purse. Rackam realizes what has happened and gives chase.
As the year comes to a close the town is awash with revelers.
(Captain) and crew join Anila for some New Year's shopping, and enjoy walking through the bustling streets.
Anila: Heehee! Heehee! Heeheeheeeeee!
Anila: Haha! Hafa! Falalaaaaaa!
Rackam: Haha! Looks like Anila's really getting into the spirit!
Lyria: I've never seen her look so happy!
Vyrn: I'm not sure I like that song she's singing though.
Anila: Come on, my fellow travelers! There's naught to fear!
Anila: I'm just so happy with this outfit that (Captain) kindly put together for me!
(Captain) turns to face Anila and breaks out into a smile.
Lyria: Heehee. It really suits you!
Anila: Indeed! Oh, I feel all warm and fluffy inside!
Anila: Oh, and look! I've bought all of this, as well!
Anila breaks into a smile as she lifts her arms, revealing dozens of shopping bags.
Lyria: Hee hee! I've bought quite a lot today, too!
Anila and Lyria are happily comparing their hauls.
Rackam: Heh heh. It's good to see Lyria having fun for once.
Vyrn: But why did it have to be shopping? I hate shopping!
Anila: What? But surely I spied you just earlier buying a whole bushel of apples!
Vyrn: Th-that was different! Those were supplies for the Grandcypher!
Anila: Heeheehee… Is that so? I look forward to sampling them then!
Vyrn: Grrrgh!
Rackam: Come on you two, there's no need to fight. Let's just enjoy ourselves, shall we?
Under Rackam's insistence Anila and Vyrn make peace with one another.
Anila: Oh, but all this talk of food has really whet my appetite.
Anila's stomach starts to grumble.
Anila: Huh? What's that…
Anila rushes over to a nearby food stall.
Rackam: Oh that? Apparently it's a pretty famous food stall, there's been a line there all day.
Anila: Hmm… Very well. (Captain)! Let us all eat our fill at this venerable establishment!
Vyrn: Mm, it smells so good! Let's go!
Lyria: Ah, wait you two!
Rackam: Hey, hold up! Don't get lost in the crowd!
The crew joins the line for the food stall. They move forward then stop suddenly, and Anila bumps into the man in front of her.
Anila: Eek!
???: …
Anila: Goodness, what a rude gentleman!
Finally making it to the stall, Anila goes for her purse to pay for the food.
Anila: Hmm? What? How strange…
Rackam: What's wrong?
Anila: It's my coin purse… I seem to have misplaced it…
Lyria: Oh no! Do you think you could have dropped it somewhere?
Vyrn: Hmm… You don't suppose…
Rackam: The man from before!
???: !
Seeing the man from earlier starting to run, Rackam gives chase.
Anila: What is it, Rackam?
Rackam: A pick-pocket! The man who bumped into you earlier must've stolen your coin purse!
Pickpocket: Humph, they spotted me.
Anila: What? What mischief is this!
Anila: U-unforgivable! Reprehensible! To steal my beloved sheep coin purse!
Anila: (Captain)! Let us go help Rackam!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part One - Episode 2
The crew retrieves the stolen coin purse, and continues walking through the town. They come across an inviting cafe offering delicious-sounding sweets. Anila orders her favorite sweet bean jelly, but is told that the cafe is sold out of it. The last of the jelly had gone to a hooligan on the adjacent table who had come in to the shop after the crew. The hooligan pretends to offer his leftover jelly to Anila, but then drops it on the floor and steps on it. An angered Anila challenges the hooligan to a fight.
The skyfarers successfully retrieve the coin purse from the pick pocket, and return to the stall for their food.
Having recovered from the ordeal, the crew once again sets out into the town.
Anila: Wha-! That flag… Can it be?
Rackam: Hmm? What is it this time?
Anila: Over there! Look, a cafe!
Anila's eyes light up at the prospect of going to a cafe.
Vyrn: Didn't we just eat a minute ago?
Anila: What are you saying? There is always room for dessert!
Lyria: Exactly! I agree with Anila!
Vyrn: Well, it's hard to argue with you there.
Rackam: At the very least all this walking has tired me out. It looks like a nice place to have a short rest.
The crew enters the cafe and are shown to a table.
Shop Assistant: Welcome to our cafe! Are you ready to order?
Anila: Heeheehee… I already know what I want!
Anila: I'll have the sweet bean jelly! And a Matcha…
Shop Assistant: My sincerest apologies, we're completely sold out of sweet bean jelly.
Anila: Wh-what! But the only other people who could've ordered it are those men, and they came in after us…
Sitting next to the crew is a gang of unruly-looking men.
Hooligan: Hey, waitress! Where's my sweet bean jelly!
Shop Assistant: It's nearly ready, sir!
Shop Assistant: I really am very sorry, miss. But might I recommend the Adzuki bean special instead?
Anila: Adzuki…
Lyria: It… it looks delicious! Doesn't it?
Rackam: Errr, yes! Look, those people have it over there. It looks great!
Anila: (…Hmm, what are they doing…)
Anila: (…They're treating me like some spoiled child…)
Anila: You're right. I shall have the red bean special.
The skyfarers eat their desserts, and enjoy each other's company.
However, Anila's gaze wanders from time to time toward the sweet bean jelly on the next table.
Hooligan: That was delicious! Stick it on my tab, OK?
Shop Assistant: O-OK…
The frightened shop assistant is left cleaning up the sweet bean jelly abandoned on the table.
Anila: What! Y-you can't possibly be just leaving that sweet bean jelly behind, can you?
Hooligan: What's it to you? I bought the sweet bean jelly, I can do with it what I like!
Anila: You may be right about that, but the sweet bean jelly…
Anila: To throw it away when there is one such as I who so longs for its taste…
Hooligan: Fine, fine. If you want it so badly you can have it.
Anila: Y-you mean it?
Almost without thinking Anila jumps up and tries to hug the hooligan.
Hooligan: Ah, my hand slipped…
The hooligan drops the sweet bean jelly to the floor, right in front of Anila.
Anila: Wha!
Hooligan: Oops, now my foot slipped!
The hooligan steps on the fallen sweet bean jelly.
Hooligan: Oh no, I'm so sorry! But I think it's still good, you should eat it anyway! Later!
With a raucous laugh the man leaves the shop.
Anila: Wait…
Hooligan: Huh? You wanna say something?
Anila: Turn around and face me. I can't believe you would waste food like that.
Anila: It looks like I'm going to have to beat some sense into you!
Hooligan: Haha! I like your style, kid! Very well, let's do this!
Rackam: Hey, Anila! What are you doing?
Anila: …I'm sorry, but I can't just let this hooligan go.
Anila: Are you ready?
Hooligan: Whatever, try not to break a nail, little girl!
Anila: Let the fight… begin!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part One - Episode 3
After dealing with the cafe hooligan the crew heads to the town square market to pick up ingredients for the New Year's feast. They arrive at the market to find the crowds of shoppers in a frenzy. This inevitably leads to violence, which Anila is quick to put a stop to.
The shop assistant thanks the crew for defeating the hooligan. The crew then leaves the cafe and walks toward the town square.
The shop assistant reveals that the hooligan had been forcing the cafe to pay protection money.
Lyria: Anila, you were so cool back there!
Anila: I cannot abide people who waste food so wantonly.
Vyrn: I never knew you had it in you to be so angry!
Vyrn: (…I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this one…)
Anila: It was nothing. I was just raised to never waste any food, that's all.
Anila: When I see someone doing something like that I can't help myself.
Rackam: Haha, You mean you actually feel sorry for the food?
Anila: Shut up! It's just I really love sweet bean jelly!
The crew reach the town square.
Anila: Now, all I need are the ingredients for the New Year's feast, and we'll be all set.
Lyria: Yay! Maybe we'll even find some sweet bean jelly!
Anila: Heeheehee! Lyria, what a great idea!
Anila: (…I guess there's no harm in me enjoying myself a bit before the end…)
Vyrn: What's wrong, Anila? Hurry up!
Anila: …Oh, don't worry! I'll be right there!
In the town square a market has been set up where merchants can try to get rid of their remaining stock.
A huge crowd of people has amassed in the square and are clamoring over each other to find the best deals.
Anila: Wh-what madness is this?
Lyria: Waaah! Everyone looks so serious!
Vyrn: D'you think it's like this every year?
Rackam: …I dunno, something about this seems a bit off to me.
Anila: Hmm… Look at their eyes, they're all in a frenzy.
The crew feels something is very wrong with the frenzied, clamoring crowd of shoppers.
Greedy Man 1: Get your hands off it! I was here first!
Greedy Man 2: As if! I was here long before you!
A fight breaks out in front of the crew.
Anila: We have to put a stop to this before someone gets hurt.
Anila rushes in between the two men who are about to start fighting each other.
Anila: Can everyone please just stay calm!
Greedy Man 1: Tch! Who d'you think you are? Just keep yer nose outta this!
Greedy Man 2: Let's get rid of her first, then get back to fightin'!
Anila: You have left us no choice, we shall have to stop you by force. (Captain)!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part One - Episode 4
The crew puts a stop to the fighting, but is concerned by Anila's worried expression. Anila is struggling to find an explanation, when a young man appears from nowhere. He explains that he is one of the protectors of the Joya bell, and that as she is the chosen one, they need Anila to perform a ritual. Realizing the bell must be the reason for the madness in the square, she follows the young man.
The crew has been dragged into a conflict rising from the market frenzy.
Feeling that putting even one step wrong could lead to a fight to the death, the crew is left wondering what has happened.
Rackam: Y'know it's kinda refreshing to see the dark side of people for a change.
Anila: …
Lyria: Anila, is something the matter?
Anila: Huh? Ah, no. I just have something on my mind.
Rackam: What is it? Is it something we can help you with?
Vyrn: Yeah! We love to help people out! Just tell us what you need!
Just at that moment a young man appears, visibly out of breath.
Young Man: Haaah, haaah, haaah. Chosen one! You have to come with me right now!
Anila: Chosen one? Who are?
Young Man: Yes! I'm one of the protectors of the bell!
Anila: I feared as much. But, there is still some time yet before the bell tolls.
Young Man: About that, it seems there was a miscalculation…
Young Man: The Joya bell has already started tolling, releasing all of the world's desires!
Anila: Wh-what!
Anila: That would explain it. These people are all under the influence of the bell!
Rackam: Hey, I don't mean to interrupt, but I have no idea what either of you are talking about! Care to explain?
Vyrn: Yeah, don't leave us out of it! What's going on?
Anila: Apologies. I'll explain it all on the way.
Anila: Now, to Joya!
And so the skyfarers start making their way to the "Joya" bell that Anila and the young man had talked of.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part Two - Episode 1
As the airship sails toward the island on which the bell known as Joya is kept, Anila explains the situation to (Captain) and the rest of the crew. Joya is a vessel in which the excess desires from the world are collected. Whenever it is close to being full, it is the job of whichever of the Twelve Divine Generals is active at the time to perform a ritual to empty it. However this time the guardians of Joya mistimed their call to the Twelve Divine Generals, and have allowed the excess desire to start pouring forth from the bell. This excess has the power to start wars and bring an end to the world.
The crew listens to Anila's explanation of the situation as the airship makes its way to the bell.
Anila: Have you ever heard of "worldly desires"?
Lyria: Worldly… desires?
Anila: Yes. Put simply they are anything that a person could want, or desire, or lust after.
Anila: Desire is not in and of itself evil. Without desire the world would come to a grinding halt.
Rackam: But it sounded like what this bell is doing is pretty bad.
Anila: Hmm, well… How can I put this…
Anila: The Joya bell is a receptacle that collects up all the world's desires.
Anila: It collects up the excess so that the world can remain in balance.
Vyrn: So then, what's the problem?
Anila: The Joya bell is only supposed to collect those desires. This means that someone needs to empty it before it gets full.
Anila: That job goes to whichever of the Twelve Divine Generals is active that year.
Anila: We generals perform a ritual at the end of the year then ring the bell to empty it of the excess desire.
The young man listens to every word Anila says then speaks up.
Young Man: It seems this time we miscalculated when we needed the ritual to be performed. We shall never live down this shame.
Anila: Don't be so hard on yourself. This was bound to happen eventually. I am partly responsible too.
Anila: To tell you the truth, I'm a little embarrassed.
Anila points at her large pile of shopping and lets out a sardonic laugh.
Anila: If we don't get to the bell soon and perform the ritual…
Anila: The excess desire may start a war, and the whole world will be in peril.
Vyrn: WH-WHAAAT?
Anila: Never underestimate the power of people's desire.
Lyria: We can't let that happen!
Rackam: Huh. I still don't really get what's going on here.
Rackam: But I do get that we have to put a stop to this "Joya" thing before it causes any more trouble.
(Captain) nods in agreement with Rackam.
Vyrn: (Captain)'s in, and so am I!
Anila: Heeheehee… I expected nothing less from you.
Anila: I'll admit I was a little scared to do this alone.
Anila: It means a lot to have you all here with me. Thank you, (Captain).
(Captain) and crew are moved by Anila's kind words.
They push forward through the monsters blocking their way to get to the island where the Joya bell awaits.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part Two - Episode 2
(Captain) and crew make it to the island on which Joya is kept, and come across a seemingly deserted village. However it isn't long before they are confronted by some terrified villagers. They had mistaken (Captain) and crew for marauders coming from the temple. The crew try to explain who they are, but their explanation is cut short by the real marauders who have come to attack the village.
The crew arrive on the island where Joya is kept.
They come across a small village on the way to the temple.
Rackam: I don't like this, it's too quiet. Is this some kinda ghost town?
Young Man: No. Or at least it shouldn't be. Something's wrong here.
Anila: Hey! Is there anyone here?
Lyria: Hmm… Maybe they all got evacuated?
An arrow lands in front of Lyria.
Lyria: Eek!
Anila: Lyria! Are you OK?
Lyria: Y-yes…
Vyrn: Hey! We know you're out there now! So just come on out and fight us in the open!
A terrified villager comes out of hiding.
Terrified Villager: S-stay back! W-we don't have anything left for you to take!
Confident Villager: If you come any closer we're gonna have a problem!
Young Man: W-wait! It's me! I've brought the chosen one!
Anila: Will you lower you weapons so that we can talk? What are you so afraid of?
Terrified Villager: Wha? H-hey! That's…
Confident Villager: Th-the chosen one! The chosen one has come!
The villagers see Anila, and immediately drop their guard.
Rackam: Jeez. I'm not sure what just happened, but I'm glad they're not pointing weapons at us any more.
The villagers tell the crew that the rest of the village had gone to inspect the bell some days ago and hadn't come back.
Young Man: I was one of them…
They then say that not long after the other villagers left, they were replaced by…
Confident Villager: They're back!
Wild Outlaw: Bwahahaha! This time we'll finish you off for sure!
Hard-Faced Man: Heheheheh! We're gonna take you all to Joya!
Terrified Villager: Chosen one, is there anything you can do? Please, help us!
Anila: All right, just leave it to us!
Anila: (Captain), it's time to do our thing!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part Two - Episode 3
(Captain) and crew rush at full speed to the temple. Unfortunately they are too late, the villagers have already been fanaticized by the desire being released by Joya. Anila says that the only way to save the villagers and make them as they were before is to get to the bell and empty it of the worldly desires. The crew prepares to fight their way through the fanatics to get to Joya.
The party makes short work of the attackers. Fearing the worst, the crew hurries to the temple.
Arriving at the temple they are greeted with a strange glow.
Anila: Wha! What is this?
Rackam: I have a bad feeling about this.
The crew comes across a huge number of people worshipping the bell, and a mountain of offerings made to it.
Joya Fanatic: Huh? Oh, did you come to hear the word of the good lord, Joya too?
Joya: DONG! DONG!
Young Man: N-no! What are all you doing here?
Joya Devotee: Hahaha, no need to fear. If you let Joya into your hearts, you too shall understand the truth.
Young Man: I don't get it! What could have happened to make you all act like this?
Joya Devotee: Joya has shown us that we should give in to our desires. You would understand, if you only gave in…
Young Man: What are you saying? Look! I have the chosen one!
Joya Fanatic: The… chosen one?
Anila: It's no use. They have been completely taken over by the worldly desires.
Anila: Being so close to Joya for so long, I'm not sure there's much we can do for them.
Lyria: Is there no way to save them?
Anila: The only way is to empty Joya and allow it to start gathering desire once more.
Joya: DONG… DONG…
Joya Devotee: Yes… Yes… I understand.
Joya Fanatic: See, you'll understand him too, before long.
Rackam: Tch… I don't think we're gonna be able to talk them out of this one.
Anila: Hmm… It looks like we're going to have to fight our way to Joya.
Young Man: But… These are my…
Anila: Don't worry, I haven't forgotten that.
Anila: Everyone! Remember, no fatal blows!
Vyrn: Don't worry, we know what to do! Let's go, (Captain)!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Year's End - Part Two - Episode 4
Defeating the fanatics, all that is left is Joya itself. Trusting in Anila's instructions, they surround the bell and prepare to strike it. Anila realizes that for the first time, she's not alone. Gaining strength from that fact, she prepares to fulfill her duty.
(Captain) and crew fight their way through the crowd of fanatics.
They eventually make it to the bell.
Joya: DONG… DONG…
Anila: Now I have to do what I came here to do.
Joya: DONG… DONG…
Rackam: And what exactly is that? How do you empty a bell of desire?
Anila: I hit it.
Rackam: What?
Anila: I said so before, didn't I?
Anila: Anyway, we just have to hit, hit, and hit it some more!
Rackam: Ha ha ha, that shouldn't be too difficult.
Joya: DONG… DONG… DONG… DONG…
Lyria: Ugh… Joya's getting angry.
Anila: Yes, I can feel it too.
Rackam: I'm sorry, Joya, but just try to keep your cool a little longer!
Lyria: Yes! We're here to help!
Anila: Thank you, I really appreciate everything you've done for me!
Vyrn: Don't worry about it, sis!
Vyrn: You're in safe hands with us! right, (Captain)?
Anila: Heeheehee.
Anila: (…So this is what it's like… To not be alone…)
Lyria: Anila, are you OK?
Anila: Yes, I'm fine.
Anila: OK, let's go.
Anila smiles, and exchanges meaningful glances with (Captain) and the others.
Anila: …My name is Anila!
Anila: One of the Twelve Divine Generals, and Guardian of the south south-west! The Sheep Goddess Anila has come!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Ending
(Captain) and crew are victorious against Joya, which is emptied of excess worldly desires. With Joya silenced the villagers return to their former selves. Having fulfilled her duty, Anila thanks the crew for their help. The crew suggest that they should all go to Anila's home town to tell her family the good news.
The crew has successfully emptied Joya of excess worldly desires.
Joya has stopped spewing forth desire into the world, and is once again silent.
Anila: Haaah… Haaah… I think it's over.
Rackam: Phew… We hit it pretty hard, did it work?
Lyria: Yes! I can't feel the desires coming from it any more!
Vyrn: We did it! Another victory to us!
Young Man: Everyone… I just want to say… Thank you! Thank you so much!
Anila: You're welcome. And now we can get ready for the New Year's celebrations!
Even as the recovering villagers thank them, the crew prepares to leave the island.
The crew has left the island and is once again on the move.
Rackam: So does this mean that you've fulfilled your duty?
Anila: Yes. All that's left for me to do now is hand over to the next divine general.
Vyrn: And what will you do after that?
Anila: Hmm… The next time it will be my turn to be the active divine general will be in 12 years' time.
Anila: But to tell you the truth I haven't given any thought about what I'm going to do in the intervening 11.
Anila falls silent and looks out into the blue skies.
Rackam: Well, is there anything you want to do?
Anila: What I want to do…
Lyria: Yeah! Like, "I want to eat my own weight in sweet bean jelly"! There are no wrong answers!
Vyrn: Lyria! You must still be affected by the excess desire from Joya!
Lyria: Ah, maybe… Heehee!
Anila: Heeheehee! Thank you, Lyria.
Anila: I feel like when I'm with you I… I feel like I'm home.
Anila: It's such a… How to put it… Such a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Anila looks on the crew with a warm, friendly gaze.
Anila: You've been more than friends to me, you feel almost like family…
Anila: I don't think I would have been able to fulfill my duty as one of the Twelve Divine Generals if it weren't for you.
Lyria: Hee hee. That means a lot to us, really.
Anila: I am proud to call you all my friends.
Anila: Heeheehee. If I want anything, it is to go back to my home town and tell them all about our adventures together!
Rackam: Ha ha. Well then, that's your answer then.
Anila: What?
Rackam: What if we were to go to your hometown?
Vyrn: Oh! Now there's an idea!
Lyria: Yes! I'm sure your family would love to hear that you've fulfilled your duty!
(Captain) agrees.
Anila: Heeheehee. You guys really are the best, you know?
Anila: All right, I'll introduce you to my family, then we can eat a super special New Year's feast!
So they set a course for Anila's home town.
Anila has gained more than she could have hoped for, and sets out on another journey with her new friends.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Day 1
Anila: Heeheehee! Take a gander at the hustle and bustle of the New Year's crowd!
Anila: (Captain), are your preparations for the coming celebrations complete?
Anila: What? You've yet to do anything? Whatever am I going to do with you? Very well, come with me.
Anila: Don't worry, I'm forever doing this for my brothers and sisters, so I'm used to it.
Anila: You're so flighty, I'd be worried you'd end up hurting yourself if I left you alone.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Day 2
Vyrn: Hey, Anila! Remember those apples we bought earlier? Well it looks like we bought too many.
Vyrn: I don't want to just throw them away, do you have any good ideas of what we could do with them?
Anila: That is tricky… You could make apple jam, apple pie, apple juice, apple cider…
Vyrn: Whoa! I knew I could count on you! They all sound delicious!
Anila: Heeheehee, just leave it up to me! Hmm, I could even make toffee apples… Ah, now that takes me back.
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Day 3
Anila: Haaah… Haaah… Phew! Will this do?
Rackam: Whoa, you've really done a number on this floor, I can see my face in it!
Anila: I just want to help wherever I can. I need to pay you back for everything you've done for me.
Anila: OK! With the filth of the past year washed away, you're ready for a new year and a fresh start!
Rackam: Let me give you a hand! Just let me know if there's anything heavy you need lifting, I'll be here in a flash!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Day 4
Anila: Phew… I think we're finally nearly done.
Anila: Ah… Looking back at the past year, we've had an interesting time, huh?
Lyria: We've had a lot of memorable times together, haven't we?
Anila: Lyria, I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for you.
Lyria: Hee hee… I could say the same thing about you, Anila.
Anila: Heeheehee. Wow, even my laugh has changed thanks to you!
Auld Lang Syne 2015 - Day 5
Anila: Heehee. Aaand, we're done! And now it's time to decorate for the New Year's celebrations!
Lyria: Good work, Anila! Here, this is for you!
Anila: Huh, Wha-! Sweet bean jelly! Lyria, you really didn't have to!
Lyria: I know, but you've been so helpful getting this place ready for New Years, we thought we'd buy you this to say thanks!
